About a decade ago my brother in law phoned me up and asked if I wanted to go in half on a 1996 Ford F-250. “They want only $2,000 for it, and it’s in great shape!” I inquired about the specs: 351ci Windsor V-8, two wheel drive, automatic. Standard cab, long (8’) bed. A former CalTrans fleet truck, it was basic as basic can get. Hand crank windows, vinyl bench seat, AM/FM radio with only six presets, all swaddled in that bright blue Ford loved so much in the 90s. So basic was our truck that it didn’t even have full wheel covers, just steel “dog dish” covers that slipped on over the lug nuts. Sadly, after about six months of ownership it became the target of a vehicle theft ring operating inside USMC Base Camp Pendleton. Folks were arrested and jailed but we never saw our truck again. Yeah, I admit a bit of bias here because I spend about 120,000 miles a year driving a commercial semi, but generally speaking I prefer to drive larger vehicles. 90k is what happens whenever dudes with office jobs want to feel manly and literally never use it for any truck stuff. The nicest, most pinnacle trucks used to be like 60-70k
The reason the super dutys driver assist is just average is because they still use hydraulic steering with it being such a large heavy truck. F150s with electric steering have top notch driver assist with bluecruise
Sometimes, their cars, a camper/caravan/trailer (like when they want to move to a new house), building materials and equipment (like bulldozers etc). You'd have to get the F-650 (the biggest F-series) if you want to tow your house😂.
Yes actually haha. For real though. Large camping trailers. Work trailers for various things. Sure an F150 can tow 13k lbs but it’s not the best tool for the job especially when elevation and steep grades come into play. If you need to tow over 10k lbs that’s where this truck makes sense. Also it can hold 3k lbs in the bed if you need to carry heavy stuff.

Doug talking about the size of King Ranch made me want to drop this little bit of information as an Australian. In Australia, we have a few huge cattle and sheep farms in the deserty grasslands quite far inland. By huge, I really mean huge, with the largest of them being the same size as Belgium. So yeah, King Ranch may be big, but not compared to what we have here in Australia
Love it when Doug said unless you really need this truck consider a Ford Ranger. Haha. Those driving $100k 3/4 and 1 ton rigs do so because of the size and status. You can’t show up to the golf course on Saturday in a Ford Ranger when your buddy has a King Ranch. Even his buddy’s wife drives at least a 1/2 ton truck/SUV. Few need a truck to tow 30k pounds. They use it for the golf course, grocery store and to tow a 3k pound boat on the weekend. It’s big, luxurious and makes the other guys at Home Depot jealous. Merca!!!!!!
I'm not always super fond of motor companies changing up so many things every few years with different generations, especially with the last 3 generations of super duties being the best they have ever been. So when this new generation came out I was very skeptical. But my dad ended up getting a 2023 King Ranch F250 and after getting to test drive it and see the features I can say that I was very impressed with everything about the truck. We have always been a ford family so I can't speak for many other brands, but it does definitely seem like every change that ford makes on these trucks is for the better! No complaints here.
we need to start talking about how the price of trucks is skyrocketing because small business owners can buy one and then get tax rebates for it. we're essentially giving a handout to truck makers. these type of tax breaks need to go away.
It's not a tax rebate. It's simply taking depreciation on a business asset just like a welder, office building or laptop. Trades business owners buy these, real estate agents buy a GLS, and tech bro start ups buy G Wagons. It's all the same. Trades business owners likely use their truck more than most other truck owners.

Yeah, I admit a bit of bias here because I spend about 120,000 miles a year driving a commercial semi, but generally speaking I prefer to drive larger vehicles. My biggest personal vehicle is either my 2000 Tundra or 2015 Tacoma (hilariously, they’re equal in almost every measurement). But if I could’ve gotten a 2015 Tundra equipped with a manual transmission, that’s what I’d have bought instead of the Tacoma.
I miss the days of childhood when people bought pick up trucks because they were cheap and simple.
don't want the luxuries then get a base one smaller engine for damn near half the price. there is a reason f series is not only the best selling truck but best selling VEHICLE in US and Canada. you have choices when they use to be just bare bones work truck available and cheaper do to no backseat. you have base work truck for workers AND entry version to luxury versions for soc er dads and moms that still want that bed.
@@carculturenation2166 But my point is that luxury trucks weren't a thing and the world was a better place for it.
I mean theres the Ford Maverick for just over 20K
@@carculturenation2166so a couple jobs ago I worked for a fleet company in Oklahoma during the last explosion of oil and gas. Alot of my customers would only buy Ford's because they didn't take bail out money from the Government. This was straight from the owner of the company's mouth. For a truck I prefer Ford's myself. I have owned a new truck from the top three.
@carculture You're spamming this everywhere. 60% of F250's I see never see a spec of dirt. They're owned by people with a massive ego who can't drive.
One thing to mention about the ride quality is that it rides a lot better with some payload or a trailer
2012 F250 XLT here with LB, rides exceptionally well and decent towing trailers
2024 F350 KR Tremor here, it rides like a Cadillac for a 1 ton... even off-road it's comfortable!!! (Yes I've actually taken mine off-road) she's not a pavement princess!

Just drove one of these for 30hrs to get a Mobile Vet box installed. Can't believe you missed the massage feature on those seats! It was a nice feature to have on that long drive. As for the ride, it was much better when the 1100lb vet box was installed, not nearly as rough.
Yeah, I think he misses the concept of leaf springs on a heavy duty truck. Pretty jarring unloaded, but smooth as silk if you have a trailer attached
I think only platinum and limited got them in the 24s
It's wild that an F250 now costs half as much as my 2023 Kenworth T680!
Might be able to tow as much too ? If you build up the ford powerstroke engine. He said 1300 trq for the upgraded version of the motor . More hp and almost as much torque as a semi motor . Just think if you sunk another 10 grand into the ford motor 😉. Tune , bolt ons , build it up , fortify / reinforce the chassis and suspension for more towing

Their houses?

I just started working at ford and I’m trying to get familiar with all the vehicles. I just checked and we have one of these on our lot, I’m going to go get the keys and check it out tomorrow. It’s gonna be very cool to see all the cool stuff you talk about on your videos in person!

It's been at the dealer for two weeks now while they wait for "backordered" parts. They'd had trouble with this problem in previous years but i thought to myself "surely they've fixed it with the new model." Nope.
Ford strikes again!
They did, they switched from Microsoft based Sync to Blackberry based Sync. Screen and all controls work flawlessly in my Bronco. Sorry for your luck. Hope they get it fixed for ya :)
Stop buying Ford. They want to put un-skippable ads in their vehicle infotainment screens.
I’ve never heard someone call an infotainment screen a computer. 😂

Envy is an ugly thing.
Why are you against small businesses? Those tax breaks are a good thing.
