I'm a Mazda 6 owner and I can attest that the interior and seats are next level for this price point. When I purchased mines they told me Mazda was trying to move into that Luxury market. I'm all for that as long as they keep the price down. At the end of the day most consumers want to feel like they got the most bang for their buck

the downside is that because of this mazda doesnt offer big engines which is kinda annoying. I.e. a mazda 3 with a 400hp engine just doesnt exist. and even for their turbocharged engine you gotta go outside of europe.

I’ve got the CX-30 in the UK and my only gripe is its just a bit sluggish. I feel like I’ve paid for a top level Mercedes but for nowhere near the price. The handling is phenomenal and the look is great. Manual gearbox is sooooo nice. If they bring out turbo versions in the UK I’ll jump at the chance to get one.

Totally agree with the touchscreen vs knob control. I thought touchscreen was the thing I wanted but after having experience with BMW control back in 2014-17, I became fan of knob control. Touchscreen, you have to take your eyes off the road, can press wrong button if car goes over rough surface at the time of pressing, etc. Once you get used to menu interface, you get to move the knob and find what you need to see without taking your eyes off the road whatsoever. Now I have a car with touchscreen, i wish this had knob. Knob is definitely better than touchscreen

I picked up a Polymetalic Grey Premium Plus Turbo here in the States in March and I love it. I'd say my likes are on par with yours. I love the AWD and short wheel base. From s stop on a left turn just floor it and go, it litterally whips around the corner holding all 4 strong and steady. The parking brake should auto disengage when hitting the gas as long as you are buckled. I have the full aero kit installed, in the States we get the spoiler and chin splitter factory on the PP models. I added the rear diffuser and side sills at the dealer. My minro gripes are...The seat belt chine is over the top, no rear USB, no power passenger seat(lame), and the crappy plastic rear wiper arm. I will likely remove and add one of those delete plugs. But yes, my only gripes are extremely minor and its a FANTASTIC little car. In fact my Boss said its as nice inside as his Lexus

Traded in my 2014 Mazda 6 with just under 200k miles on it for a 21 turbo hatch. I commute about 45 miles one way to work a few days a week and the turbo is definitely fun to drive. You do not feel bullied on the road whatsoever. I find myself setting the cruise because you do not feel like your going that fast until you look at the speedometer. My only gripe is the small gas tank. I’m averaging just under 29mpg combined with mostly highway driving which is pretty good for this car, but the tank goes down fairly quick. All in all a great car.

I've now had my Mazda 3 for 3 years. I agree with your assessment of Mazda. 10 years ago I would not have considered one. I needed a new car back in 2019 and started shopping. I wanted more power than the Ford Focus I had but wanted as good as or better fuel economy. I looked at the stats and reviews on many cars that appealed to me as well as reliability assessments. I narrowed it down to a Mazda 3 Grand Touring with every option available or an Acura ILX. To get the Acura optioned up to the point of what the Mazda my nearest dealer had would cost me $8000 more. The only advantage I found with the Acura was more power with a DCT. For me that wasn't worth 8k. Got a 2018 Mazda loaded with all the tech and other options. I was amazed at how luxurious and powerful it is compared to any previous small car I've had. Being a left over 2018 with the all new 2020 models starting to hit the dealers I got a great deal. 24k out the door. The only available options it lacked was parking sensors and remote start - neither of which I needed. I only wish the turbo had been available at that time. I'm sure I wouldn't be averaging the 34mpg I get now with the turbo option though. With gas hovering at $4 a gallon right now I really appreciate having 186hp and still get 34mpg. Your review just shows me that Mazda isn't resting and continues to get more upscale. Makes me want to go out and find a new Turbo Mazda 3.

you're one of the few car reviewers who doesnt complain about not having a touchscreen which I like because in my Civic my screen gets dirty so in my opinion a controller is a better way to use it. I dont like the 'futuristic' cars anyway with their big touchscreens...

2019 GTI owner here. That exterior and omg that interior are awesome! I thought the GTI's interior's pretty classic and timeless, but the 3T's interior definitely made my eyes pop in the side by side. The driver seat looks pretty awesome as well.
I do have the SE w/ premium audio and comfort mode, so the rest performance wise seems similar, but I think missing Carplay is kind of a big deal. I've gotten really used to using my phone for GPS and Music, and having to use any car's native UI is a big step back. It's also really easy for my friends to just plug in their iPhones and control music/etc, rather than having to learn it.
And how's the backseat room on your 3Ts? I was debating between GTI and 3T last summer, and one favor for the was that GTI it did have more room back there. From the video here, it does still seem a bit tight, but how's the feedback been from your guests?

Unfortunately, Mazda didn’t offer the Turbo in 2019 when I bought my GTI. If they did, that’s the route I’d probably go with. My Speed3 got totalled and I didn’t want to leave the Mazda family but I don’t fit in a Miata, so the GTI had to do.

It's the most reliable vehicle I've ever had and so damn fun and practical.
