I don't think anyone's ever tried to argue that stick controls are better than motion. I understand that motion is objectively better, but does that stop me from playing sticks? Not at all. I just play the game the way I'm most comfortable with
Yeah, like 2 years ago, Splatoon 3 actually made me unable to touch sticks lol! So while playing Fortnite on switch, Switch fortnite has motion controls combines with stick! The feature has been there since Chapter 1 Fortnite! But barely anyone knew about it, and it was VERY usefull, I was able to FLICK AND use stick controls! Stick for large movement, and then the motion for micro adjustments or flicking!
I appreciate this video because it discusses a topic that's normally just thrown thrown about with insults and gatekeeping. That being said, I had a few observations: one technical, one about the game from a competitive player's perspective: At 3:01 you stated that "motion controls are only limited by how fast you as an individual can move your arms and wrists, wheras stick controls are highly restricted by input sensitivity on the console's part." You then go on to say that since the radius of the joystick to any side is much smaller than the radius of the center of the controller to your elbow, motion controls can (theoretically) aim your character much faster than sticks. It turns out this isn't quite right because the controller (joycon and procon) sends the stick data as a completely separate part of the data packet than the IMU data which contains the gyro. Each axis of the gyro data sampled at 5ms intervals and stored in an Int16 in the IMU packet, while horizontal and vertical stick data actually is packaged in four bytes per stick (two bytes per axis, aka up to 32767 increments per quadrant outside of dead zones) earlier in the input report. It's not that there's a single "aim speed" report being sent, and motion is faster - it's two completely discrete values, and it's entirely up to the console and game to decide what to do with it. [side-note: the demonstration you showed at 3:45 does not come close to saturating the Int16 Z IMU data meaning the theoretical limit is much much much faster than what you've demonstrated] At 4:47 you state that "...even being able to aim half a second faster is massively important, especially if you play a mechanically demanding weapon like charger." One of the best charger players in the world is ぴょん [Pyon] and he plays at... [-1, -1] sensitivity. If what you said is true, why isn't he maxing out his sensitivity at +5? It turns that's because for many weapons, it doesn't matter how _fast_ you can aim at the target, if you can't actually get your reticle on it once you get there. Speed is useless without accuracy. Chocopero, famous for being the world's best Squeezer (arguably the most mechanically demanding weapon in the franchise) plays at [-1, 0.5]. Again, most of these players' aptitude comes from their incredible game-sense, positioning, and above all _accurate_ aim, not necessarily the marginal advantage they'd get from theoretically being able to aim a tiny bit faster. I think you kind of get to the importance of accuracy at 5:19, but your demonstration at 5:33 is fully saturating the stick (pushing it to the extent of each axis) puts stick controls in a bad light. It's pretty clear from the demonstration you start at 7:06 that you aren't using the full range of the sticks - it looks like you're saturating them briefly in the direction you're trying to aim - that's 32766 values you aren't using. This doesn't mean that stick controls are bad, but it might indicate you don't have a lot of experience playing with sticks. Again, appreciated the video. I play with motion. My teammate plays with sticks. I'm of the opinion we should let people play how they want.
I do actually mention how the sensitivity of motion controls is in the hands of the player and each player does best with different sensitivity; as long at they have better control of their aim then sensitivity doesn't matter. I probably should've spent more time on that though
While i understand motion isn't for everyone, I personally want every shooter with controller support to have nintendo motion controls. It just feels so good and as someone who has a lot of friend who play more starndard shooters I'm tired of trying to explain why this should happen ;-;
@@Harmony-s7b try increasing your sensitivity. You shouldn't actually be moving your wrists very much when using motion controls (remember to use your sticks to move your camera)

It's pretty cool that you got to such a high level by only using stick controls! If I may ask, what weapons would you recommend to someone who uses stick controls if you had to recommend them to other players who might be at a lower level? What weapons are best for the playstyle that stick controls would provide in your opinion?
@@TheManofManyTitles Well, i have been playing stamper for almost a year straight now. it has worked great! As someone who has played with motion controls since day one... I genuinely agree with you! That said, I can see stick controls being useful in one of two conditions: Condition number 1: You have a disability or condition that prevents you from using these controls without either physical pain or motion sickness. Pretty self explanatory, and obviously video games should not cause players literal pain while playing. Condition number 2: You are playing with a charger, the tri-stringer or the H-3 Nozzlenoze. (Technically blasters would also count, but considering they have much shorter range, I wouldn't say so as much). The thing these weapons have in common is being ranged weapons that don't require high range of movement to steady one's aim that all have the ability to splat opponents in one hit. The main thing is that if your aim is off, you either miss your shot entirely (chargers) or you will NOT splat opponents in one hit or one volley. With motion controls, the literal micro-movements of one's body can mess up your aim just enough that one of the H-3 Nozzlenoze's bullets whiffs or the tri-stringer's arrows don't all connect, turning a one hit splat into a two hit splat at least. This is the one advantage to stick controls I can think of, but motion controls feel so good that basically every shooter game ever from now on should have them... but what do you think?
Second part is almost completely false. Its better to miss shots every once in a while (which in my experience motion does not cause) than to spend absolutely ages steadying your aim and having more downtime with sticks. Personally I play bamboozler so using sticks isn’t remotely possible. You have to have precise aim and aim fast with bamboo.
Generally the best aim style for charger+stringer is flicking, which has the added LARGE bonus of unpredictability (for charger). Otherwise I’d say relying on one type of control on its own is a bad idea; if the small movements of your hand are messing up your nozzlenose gameplay just turn motion sensitivity way down. It would be cool if they added a toggle for vertical stick control even when you’re using motion controls
