- Have you ever heard a 'booming' bittern? Join Miranda Krestovnikoff and Stephen Moss at RSPB Ham Wall to listen out for the extraordinary noise this elusive bird makes in the reedbeds. In the late 1990s bitterns were nearly lost from the UK with only 11 males recorded. Now their numbers are increasing thanks to conservation efforts.

We heard one last Tuesday at RSPB Middleton Lakes near Tamworth. First time that we had heard one and it was a very distinctive "boom". It had been spotted by the RSPB staff and was on their noticeboard.

That's amazing it's sad that they got extinct but they are good birds my mum is planning to go to Ham Wall so I hope I see or hear a bittern booming from Isabelle 🦚🦃🐣🐦🐧🕊🦅🦆🦢🦜
They haven't gone extinct... infact, their UK population is increasing if im correct
