When they sell to investors (privately or going public), that has a tendency to change things over time.
There's a world of difference between CEO of private companies and CEOs of publicly-traded companies... the publicly-traded company ones are basically just figureheads put in place to do the bidding of Goldman Sachs and to collect gigantic paychecks as a signal to investors that the company is doing well. One of the things I like about AMD is that because they spent so long getting almost bankrupted by those "professional" CEOs that eventually they were willing to actually hand the company over to an actual engineer (Dr. Su) in an act of desperation. Since she is a PhD-bearing engineer and business is one of the simplest topics in the universe in comparison, she just had to spend like a weekend learning about business stuff and then was able to immediately reorient the company to actually center around engineering excellence and boom, took off like a rocket. I imagine by now she's probably having to get into knife-fights with bankers to keep out the parasite MBAs who would want to get in and start slashing and burning for tiny short term gains at the expense of long-term corporate survival (those types of CEOs hop from company to company every 3-4 years, so they're fine with cutting a throat that won't bleed out for 10).
this could be better if they had a steamdeck like case too i know its a small company but think its not that hard to do it if they show something like that probably they will got more investment.

Right! This parent and son chemistry is really fun to watch. Linus also, in my opinion, is really passionate in this kind of Framework topic videos. His demeanor is more lively and entertaining compared to his usual appearance on the other videos. Keep making video like this please.
Man we need more Nirav! He seems like a CEO I'd actually want to work for, someone who really knows his product. Super excited to see Framework continuing to kick ass. They deserve it.
It's settled for me. When my laptop dies, and Framework sells to my country, I'm buying it! This video showed the team excitement, that we already saw previously on the actual product design and care. Bravo! Esther was also awesome, and I praise Coolermaster for this good collab!
I will be too. Framework seems to be the next step in computing. We can forget these large companies such as Dell and HP which sell restricted machines which you cannot customise to fit your own needs.
Probably the same. My cheap $200 Dell Latitude 7490 from eBay is still pretty solid, but in a couple of yearls I'll definitely be replacing it. Hopefully it all works out for them. Looking forward to the 16" model. Having an expandable bay for an external GPU, more drives, or a removable battery is a game changer. Also having six IO ports instead of four gives tons of options.
It's great. Whats missing for me is an expernal power button that you can add somewhere to your monitor. I'm not crawling behind the monitor everytime I want to turn it on.
@@geyoda64 there is someone who made a board you can attach to the input connector so to which you can solder a power button, usb 2.0 and some software controlled leds. Google "Framework Mainboard Power Button Shim"

I would be happy and fine if they did abandon the first adopters. I know a project like this is super-difficult and complicated, and in the process many things have changed and improved. I am willing to let a company like this off-the-hook because they deserve it. But not the huge established corporations which promise something just to break it shortly after. If anything, I would be happy to see them get a lot of things right and start a "FrameWorks 2.0" platform. And when they are successful ($100 Million valuation) that they can always come back and reward their first adopters with a free laptop or something. Something like that used to be super-common in the 1980s startup scene. But the past 20 Years it's been companies trying to be super competitive in pleasing shareholders.
That happens when you're a real startup founder. You start a company to do something you know how to achieve, at least roughly. Instead of just getting investors money and hope people you hire in the future will figure it all out.

I really hope they become widespread, at least as a hip premium option to ultrabooks. I hope some day these are sold worldwide and not only in developed countries.
More to the point, we need AFFORDABLE replacement parts for laptops. Do you also remember the prices of MXM GPU's back then? Horribly overpriced for not a good increase in performance (it was either cheaper or would cost the same to just get a brand new laptop with modern dGPU). Personally, I use mostly 17" laptops. I like the bigger size and the power it can provide... and because I like portability and doing content creation/productivity on the go, I don't mind lugging a bigger laptop with me (its not that heavy).
You did great Ester! That was a lot of pressure to be put under all of a sudden but you did a great job. Love the framework guys and gals, always nice to hear from the people actually making the product.
I think Framework is making the right call with not including anything with at least the base Cooler Master case. Less waste from things people don't need, but it'd be a good idea to be able to add some modules to their case purchase as packages (if they don't already)
@@Will-sc3hw this, but also, for upgrading the case (like in the video), you’ll likely already those modules, and there’s no reason to pay for another one
@@aarond309 Yes and no. If you’re going the full upgrade path that Linus is showing - you have those modules but you still want/need them for your laptop. So additional modules will be necessary if you need that functionality in your re-deployment of the old board.
You can always buy more modules if you want them, but if they're added by default and not wanted they would be waste, which I understand is against the philosophy of the whole project.
@@phyphor Seems to me that the solution would be to include some modules, but allow the user to select which ones they need included when they order it.
I actually agree with their choice to not include wifi and audio stuff. If you have a compatible bit from elsewhere or if you’re taking a full laptop and desktop-ifying it (not keeping the laptop working) that reduces e-waste. I think they should say what you will need in addition to a motherboard when buying it so that someone isn’t blindsided.
You may not even need it. A lot of people probably have some old USB sound card lying around that came with some headphones or phone or who knows what. I know I’ve accumulated several over the years, and even the ones from like 15 years ago still do the basic job of USB in, 3.5mm out.
I agree, you might have busted up your screen and your repurposing the working parts into a desktop or headless machine. Or if your making a homeassistant server or similar, you don't need audio on it at all, and you'd want the 2.5GbE NIC instead of a WiFi NIC anyway.
So do I. There will be bigger chance of those who don't need them and it would just produce more potential e-waste if it is included in the default package.
Yeah. Just a little warning pop up or something should be just fine. Giving people exactly what they may want and nothing extra that may go in the bin is the aim fo the entire operation. So it is a good decision
The dynamic of linus ripping apart his computer like a monkey while nirav stands there in horror is priceless, I hope to see more videos involving this paring in the future. You can tell how badly nirav wants to do the upgrade himself. Its giving a strong "for tinkerers by tinkerers" vibe.
Props to Nirav (Frameworks CEO), knowledgeable and good on camera and seeing Linux handle your beta version delicate hardware must be hard haha. Props to Esther, definitely sounded like she wasn't aware she'd be on camera at all and possibly not confident in her English but she did great. Framework is the only company that actually seems to take this concept of reparability and upgradability for a mobile device seriously. I hope it takes off like crazy and they'll tackle other market segments.
The HW they offer, so the specs, are top notch, better than Lenovo's T14 series - if the built quality is good it's also an absolute bargain - they could sell for 20% more easily and justify it that u don't need to buy a while new laptop next time and save $ buy just replacing the Mainboard - I really hope they don't get a buy-out and then killed off " for safety reasons"
IDK but I always supposed that when someone is CEO, he ought to know every thing his company does bcs he like... Build it and stuff. Am I naive and stupid?
@@WryNose yes, sadly so. Chieve Executive Officer (CEO) isnt "Founder". Companies with a board sometimes change through CEO's like i change my underwear: maybe once a year. There are even companies BUYING a certain CEO in hopes of him getting it back on its feet.

As a CEO (and also maybe the founder) of startup, they usually manages almost everything, till company get big enough and more specialized person come in to manage each part of business process. He maybe eventually will change his position to more suitable for his capabilities/passion when the times come. Like how LTT now. Linus step aside his position as CEO so he can focus on what he can do the best and let CEO manage the business

All of Linus's Framework videos are seriously the best marketing Framework could possibly ask for. The number of new laptops they're gonna sell after this video is probably pretty significant.
Using the framework coolmaster thing with a projector to be a home theater would be a sick way to use it. So much power and versatility in a thin and light package
I bet the 3D printing community is going to go nuts over the coolermaster case with it's built in brackets (if they haven't already just been designing motherboard cases already)
This was so much fun. I love these interactions. Cool and passionate people enjoying themselves with what they do best. Oh, and Linus as well. He's allright.
Framework really is changing the game regarding upgradable PCs. But yeah, Linus’ previous attempt at upgrading the GPU of his laptop seemed like it was painful for the employees.
I believe you meant CPU, but mainboard/logic board wouldbe more accurate. They're not doing anything new, they just haven't abandoned it after 1-2 generations, which shouldn't be amazing but is

Framework is really making me wish I needed a new laptop. Too bad I got mine before they started. Hopefully enough people see them and keep supporting them.
I am very happy Nirav is here guiding Linus. Because as much as I enjoyed Linus's 11th-12th gen Framework update video, I did feel his no-instructions yolo approach did make it look more difficult than it actually is, which I think may have done Framework a bit of a disservice
I was thinking this exact same thing, I also think when reviewers bjy and showcase the laptop as a self reparable device, it tunes some people out, you don't have to do it yourself - for people who are total noobs. They can just go to the service centre and get it done.
To bad it's far less profitable (otherwise they would already do it). We have to force them, because our economic system is fundamentally incapable of sustainability :(
The most impressive thing about the CEO, isn't that he knows the hardware and keeps cool, it's that he was able to realise in a tense situation that Linus wouldn't be able to login with his pin. To be able to focus on presenting, listening to Linus, and still give thought to it is super impressive.

This whole concept fills me with joy. Upgrading a LAPTOP??? Changing its PLATFORM??? We need MORE of this!!!

Exactly, for server use we don't need wifi or audio
Yup, I would just add a Hidiz S9pro (2.5mm or 3.5mm audio) or a SoundBlaster for a box like that.

You did good too, Linus, at making that poor guy sweat. 🙂
I guess this video was a win for framework and Nirav. He really knows everything about the product and I love it. I can absolutely feel the part about the hard work and the process of building credibility.
PUT IN THE WORK, PUT IN THE HOURS, AND TAKE BACK WHATS OURS, 13:37
This is amazing. I looked into the forums and stuff, and really love the community around Framework! In fact, I’ve just preordered my AMD 7840U Framework laptop in Australia! Comes in Q4!
Love my 5th generation unit. Use it daily. Excellent work Framework team, and thank you Linus for your investment.
I love the framework concept and I will definitely continue to watch this company develop. I hope to have a badass framework laptop with upgradable gpu/cpu's! someday soon!
We definitely need more of this. I have like 6 laptops that i cannot use and it's just e-waste at this point. Imagine being able to use the old boards as a server or something. I sincerely hope this company succeeds and I can order it from the Philippines in the future.
The chemistry of Linus and the Framework's CEO is something that I wasn't expecting
I wish we could get more Nirav more often. His presence is excellent and the way he can throw those metaphorical punches back and forth with Linus is super funny.
Perhaps a regular-ish LTTxFramework segment should be brainstormed if it hasn't already.
At least monthly "what's new at Framework" event would be nice
Framework would profit so much from this honestly 😂
Nirav and team thank you for a great product. I built one for my wife last year. Loaded it and haven't hear of one peep of it being a problem. Bravo. She is a tough user and usually crushes things in software or hardware bugs. Like our chrome book that crashed.
Keep up the good work
The framework team has that different kind of synergy, I love them so much
A framework printer would be amazing! The current printer market is aimed at predatorial marketing tactics, where every ink cartridge is super expensive and proprietary to a single printer. Having framework's philosophy applied to one would be just what is needed in this printer scene
Love frameworks dedication to keeping their electronics out of the landfill.
3:38 yes correct, you can actually destroy fine cables by moving them around too much. the metal in the wires is very fragile. Infact, in some old laptops the issue was the cables would get shredded by the hinge guard casing lol, and cause fires too!
Finally some competition in the laptop space
This scam will die out soon. They will lose their base as the issues with this form factor come out
@@Gay-is-_-trash Scam?!? Jesus Christ man, anyone who knows _anything_ at all about the laptop OEM space can recognize just how _INCREDIBLE_ an effort this is. Plus they let someone do a messy live demo in the middle of the Computex floor _months_ before the product ships.
Anyone who reads this, this guy is the epitome of haterdom. Proceed to ignore the shit out of him like I'm going to from now on.
@@Gay-is-_-trash Can you elaborate what are the issues with it? Even if there are issues its definitely harsh to call it scam
@@Gay-is-_-trash scam? Source? Or just a shill for other brands?
Edit: looking at your comment history, you're going to every AMD related video and talking trash. You're an Intel ultra fanboy. I'm sorry you feel like that. As an active user of both sides, they're both fantastic in their own ways.
@@james1234168 I was about to say the same. This guy is the reason why shadow bans exist. Just another troll
An official framework surface touch / tablet would be an amazing addition. As someone who uses their laptop keyboard only when traveling, I'm just waiting for the touchscreens to arrive before making the plunge.
With the VESA mount , even the cooler master can be a portable AIO. Can't wait to see where framework takes this.
I'd love a 2 in 1 with pen support.
Reusing the old main board is awesome. It would be cool if they offered something that functions like a blade server chassis.
For those of you wondering about the eGPU concept mentioned around 16:51 in this video, Framework's video is here (ruclips.net/video/WzLybAh1kps/видео.html), the eGPU concept starts around 14m59s. There's not much to the announcement TBH but they are doing work on it.
Ty
Man, framework laptops seem amazing...and seems like it's run by awesome people..need more framework Collab videos
I've had one for a bit more than a year now, and I can recommend them - knowing that you can isolate damage to individual parts and significantly reduce your repair effort is really satisfying.
