    I just want to say "At last!" someone has finally explained the basic rules in a way that makes sense. Can't wait for the next episode.

      That means a lot. It’s always my hope to help fellow STA players but there’s the constant doubt that I’m not being as clear as I’d like. So I really appreciate hearing that someone gets some utility out of this.

    Very excited for this series. I'm gearing up to play (and gm) for the first time and I'm finding the guide book very difficult to follow (adhd maybe?) I've started making slideshows that cover the rules

    • @thefinalfrontiersmen

      Thank you for the message! If you have the original core rulebook for the game, then that is very understandable. It has a number of flaws when it comes to the layout and explanation of some of the rules. I'd dare say the majority of people who have read it found it difficult to follow the first time through. Modiphius really cleaned up a lot of that for the Klingon rulebook and the Rules Digest.
      I hope this video and the rest of the series helps fill in any gaps you might have after reading the book. That is the main reason why I'm making them. A lot of players/GMs make mistakes from incorrect readings of the rules or house rules that got passed down as core rules. Again, the weak organization of the original rulebook does shoulder a lot of blame for this. I've seen and been part of many games where the groups are making the same mistakes, many of which I had made when I first started. So I want these videos to cut through the noise and highlight the mechanics as they're meant to be. Mostly that will be taking it straight from the book but some vague situations have been cleared up on social media through conversations with the people behind the scenes.
      If you notice anything wrong in my explanations as these videos go on, please call me out so I can amend the video and ensure everything is as accurate as possible!

    Really great overview! I look forward to future videos, the combat of the game really has trouble clicking for me and my friends.

      Thanks for the comment! Starship combat is one of the bigger hurdles to get over in the game for sure. I think it's not that it's a difficult system, it's just a bit unexpected compared to what many of us may be used to. Currently I'm planning to cover starships and starship combat in the 5th episode of the series but I'll get there eventually! I hope it's helpful for you.

    Hello, I’ve been binging your videos the past week. I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I want to know what books (other than the core) I should buy if I wanted to run a game post DS9/Dominion War in and around the Bad Lands and the Cardassian border; maybe around the time the Voyager returns to the Alpha Quadrant. Thanks for the advice.

      Hi, thanks for the comment! That's a good question and a painful reminder that I still haven't gotten around to reviewing the Quadrant books yet.
      The best resource you'll have for that setting would be the Alpha Quadrant sourcebook. That will have all the main players in that area and has a small section on the Badlands. If you're setting it post-Dominion War and want to have lingering elements from the Dominion, you might want to look into the Gamma Quadrant sourcebook for Vorta and the like, but there's nothing specifically that will pertain to the area of space you're thinking of.
      As far as post-DS9 there's not too much out there that you would need. I'd recommend Utopia Planitia no matter when you're running your game as it's just the best starship resource out there at the moment. And it will have the late-24th century ships that you could use. The Lower Decks sourcebook also gives a catchup on the state of the galaxy in the years following the end of DS9/Voyager.
      I hope that helps! Thank you for watching!

    Is this a board game? And is it for a single player or multiple? Watching Star Trek shorts, then this came up afterward.

    • @thefinalfrontiersmen
      @thefinalfrontiersmen  6 месяцев назад +1

      Good question and welcome to the channel! Star Trek Adventures is a tabletop roleplaying game, not a board game. If you’re familiar with Dungeons & Dragons, it’s that style game (though they play very differently). Standard Star Trek Adventures is meant for a group, with one player taking on the role of Game Master to run the session. However, there is a solo version called Captain’s Log which uses a modified rules system.
      If you’re interested, feel free to ask questions here or come to the Reddit and/or Facebook group for STA. Otherwise I have videos about both games here on the channel that you can check out at your leisure.
      Thanks for watching!

    how does one fail a difficulty 0 task?

    • @thefinalfrontiersmen
      @thefinalfrontiersmen  9 месяцев назад +1

      0 Difficulty tasks can’t be failed since you need at least 0 successes to pass. They are things that are so routine that a Task roll simply isn’t *necessary*. However, what could happen is one or more Complications may be rolled. So while the action is going to succeed, bad things can still arise.
      Aside from that, a 0 Difficulty task is a great way to help players gain some Momentum if they are lacking it since every success rolled will add one point to the pool.

      Yeah, depending on the situation is could make for a good “risk vs reward” scenario.
