A very big thank you for this quality video which gives detailed explanations on options that we do not necessarily know about. I'm waiting for a Miyoo Mini Plus which should arrive soon, so these videos are very useful to me 👍
Your channel is becoming the new Miyoo resource for advanced tinkering. Keep up the great work. Have a Mini Plus and also picked up a mini. Ever thought of getting the smaller one as well?
Thank you so much. I always feel like I’m only getting part of the experience when I play the games; if only I knew about the software side of things to enhance my experience. You’ve helped take away that intimidation factor when thinking of exploring this device and it really means a lot that you’re willing to put this out there for us.
Not sure if there is a way to fix the speaker pop. Have not heard of the backlight fading issue. Is it random or does it happen when you hit a certain button?
@@PhyrexTechsit only happens when I boot up the device. Even when the software was stock, the title card would play, then the screen would go black, the speaker would pop, and the screen would flash a horizontal green line before the backlights on either side of the screen would fade in then out. I’m not sure if this is everyone’s experience or if there’s something wrong with my device. I hope I’ve described it clearly enough. If not, and if you’re curious enough, I can upload a video of what it looks like and give you the link.
My device also has a quick speaker pop on boot/shutdown and the screen has a slight flicker of a green line after the bootscreen. Its hard to be certain without a video but I think this is probably normal behavior and nothing to worry about unless you are getting odd behavior while using the device. If you are still worried about it I have no issues with checking out a video if you want to upload one.
I'm not sure how it performs on MM+, but on other 640x480 screens I've had good results from the crt/fake-CRT-Geom shader, and handheld/lcd1x or handheld/dot. I'm not looking for bezels though... just full-size scaling which looks similar to original hardware, isn't too dark, and makes pixels look like they're integer scaled even when they're not. The interpolation/pixellate filter is good too.
Good question! You can just hit the Start button when you highlight any setting in Retroarch to set it back to default. So you would want navigate and highlight the "Overlay Preset" setting and hit start. You will then have to save the override like in the video to make sure it saves.
9:28 My gameboy overlay looks almost like the contrast slider on the original gameboy is completely gone. It's very washed out and doesn't look like yours. Is this with the Miyoo display settings changed like in the prior video?
No, the display settings should not change it that much. You may want to check the Core Options menu and change: GB colorization to "Internal" Color Correction to "GBC only" or "off" With GB colorization set to Internal you should be able to use the L2 and R2 buttons to change color palettes. You may want to make sure that is not what is causing it. Another thing to check is to clear out any video filter by going to Retroarch Main Menu > Settings > Video then hit the start button with video filter highlighted. Filters can really change the look also.
If you want your screen to fit into the Bezel you have to hit the Menu Button + Start to cycle through the different aspect ratios of that game. If you don't want any bezel/frames, you will need to just use the a video filter without an overlay or find an overlay that does not use any frames.
These settings can affect performance. However, most of the time the overlay setting are not that demanding. The Video filters on the other hand are a lot more taxing and can cause slowdown depending on the core/rom you are running.
There is not a good way to adjust the overlays size on the device. You can only change the gameplay screen to fit the overlay ( Menu + Start). If you are wanting to run games at a larger aspect ratio then you will need to either find an overlay that supports the size you are trying to use or disable the overlay.
I just bought this handheld a few days ago, and i have got a problem today, all game files are in the sd card, but all emulators just suddenly became empty, all games are gone, and refesh roms doesn't work, re-insert the sd card doesn't work, reboot doesn't work....😢😢😢
Upgrade to onion OS using a sandisk or samsung SD card. It will fix all your problems. To format a sd card larger than 32gb to FAT32 you will need to use "rufus" application on PC. OnionOS is perfect for this device and is huge quality of life upgrade. Problem is you will need to download all your roms yourself. (dont use the ones on your current sd card that came with the miyoo mini) as they also are terrible. Goodluck
@@PhyrexTechs I guess it is stock os, coz I haven't made any change on the settings. and so is the sd card. In additon, I also got problem saving and exiting games.😠
Yeah, Miyoo is gonna have to step it up with all of these competitors coming out with stronger hardware for the same price point. If the rumors are true then the Miyoo Mini Flip might have the RK3566 which would be nice if the price is kept down.
@@PhyrexTechs Overall you made a great video and I am going to sub to you. Also I do look forward to waiting for them to get rid of these on Amazon so I can get one specced a little higher for the same or similar price.
@@CovenantAgentLazarus Of course they can do better, but it's going to cost more. And a lot of people are not willing to pay more to play Gameboy games. If you want a more powerful handheld there are a lot of options in the market. I prefer my 50 USD super pocketable device capable of running perfectly everything I wanna play on the go
You are one of the 3 top sources for this device, completely underrated.
Thanks! Let me know if there is anything you think I should cover that I'm missing.
Nice, not many people talk about the overlays, so this video is super informative for me!
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for this video, really loving this device!!
Great to hear!
Thanks for this video! To people playing GBA games, give the overlay GBA+3x+G1.cg (or G2) a shot, it's absoluttely phenomenal!
very helpful, thanks a lot!!

Good stuff bud, just got our MM+ and RAs' settings can sometimes be a pain to figure out.
Nice. Yeah, it can be. But once its set, you should not have to mess with it much after that.

3:35 during the Kirby GB game how did you get the bezels just on the side so the screen would be as big as possible?
How can I get the bezzles with the console name on like gameboy or game gear
How do you get the crt filters/overlays without the frames eating up the screen? I have the miyoo mini plus.
If you want your screen to fit into the Bezel you have to hit the Menu Button + Start to cycle through the different aspect ratios of that game. If you don't want any bezel/frames, you will need to just use the a video filter without an overlay or find an overlay that does not use any frames.
Why when I set some overlay, the performance drop, fps and sound. It's not suitable?
These settings can affect performance. However, most of the time the overlay setting are not that demanding. The Video filters on the other hand are a lot more taxing and can cause slowdown depending on the core/rom you are running.
Ahh, yes; kickin’ it old-school with our original GB units. (An antique though it may be now, I still miss mine…🥲)
Yeah, I wish I still had my original Gameboy.
Can someone tell me how to turn off the bezels permanently?
is you paint on the gameboy text?
It is a sticker: www.etsy.com/listing/1531838558/nintendo-gameboy-label-aufkleber-sticker
The Speaker cracks, if i turn the Mini plus on or off ! Is this normal?
Yeah, oddly enough it is normal.
How to get overlay from taking up to much space when making game larger?
There is not a good way to adjust the overlays size on the device. You can only change the gameplay screen to fit the overlay ( Menu + Start). If you are wanting to run games at a larger aspect ratio then you will need to either find an overlay that supports the size you are trying to use or disable the overlay.
Ok it's not a big deal I just noticed all the overlays take just a little to much space on the borders but it's not to much to keep from playing
Where can i buy the Gameboy Sticker?
www.etsy.com/shop/DoZrobieniaParts this is where I got my stickers
how do you get that pico 8 system icon ?
Pretty sure the icon is the default Onion OS icon Pico 8. If you mean how to install it, you will find it in the Package Manager in Apps.
