      Oh
      I wouldn’t be afraid of those teeth, though. AFAIK no sperm whale has ever hurt a human with its teeth.
      I’d be more worried about a stroke with their tail or a VERY loud ping with their sonar, both of which they use to fend off orcas’ attacks
      Bottom line: I’d be happy and delighted to swim among those bobbing giants, as they are gentle

    • @Thep184
      @Thep184 3 года назад +173

      @NateEh well i think he is more educated then you. Sperm whales are the loudest animals in the entire world. Their clicks they use are sound waves which in water are literal waves. They can click so loud and often that they use it to confuse their prey and it is theorized they could even kill a human this way. He did not say the diver died, he said ( as a joke, so not on,y are you uneducated but also have no humor ) it as a joke. Sperm whales could click loud snd kill you, so a snoring/ sleep clicking sperm whale could as well. Next time you want to be the smart guy, make sure you actually are.

      Actually they move vertically too, Sperm whales are known to be some of the best deep divers, often diving to a depth of thousands of meters in the pitch black ocean in order to catch their favorite food - the giant squids. Think about it, they need to breathe air through their lungs just like us humans, but they have evolved to a degree that they can hold their breath for hours at a time, can withstand extreme levels of water pressure and can use their sonar positioning ability (by clicking) to locate their prey in that darkness, what an animal...

    • @Dunning-Krugereffect

      So I did some light reading and it seems that the sperm whale naps in intervals of 10-15 minutes. And they estimated that sleeping only takes up 7% of their day.
      As opposed to hump back whales, which sleep at the surface for 30 minute intervals.

    • @lred1383
      @lred1383 3 года назад +189

      Humans are actually the outliers when it comes to sleep. Our overgrown brains need a lot of rest, and while there are animals that can sleep for much longer, they don't *need* to. Unlike us. Dolphins don't truly sleep at all, but that doesn't really count since they're always partially asleep

    • @NaiaEnterprises1
      @NaiaEnterprises1  3 года назад +87

      They always do wake up eventually (when we are viewing them) since their sleep cycles are short. It's typically a slow-motion event, when one or two begin shifting their body angle or gently swim to the surface seemingly to invite the others to join them as they swim away. If they are startled by intrusion (for instance by pilot whales) they will bunch closer together as they depart. If they are simply relocating the group's members move at their own pace and in a very loose group.

      @MacKenzie DONALD Bruh.
      Breathing is the process of taking air into and expelling it from the lungs.
      They are not performing that *Process* at that time. Process as in a *series of actions or steps* taken in order to achieve a particular end.
      *Doing Part of a process does not equate to doing a process.* Hold your breath and only exhale... and lets see how long you will live..... without BREATHING.

    • @nuffflavor

      @MacKenzie DONALD I am human, i paid attention during my school years, and know the entire process of breathing.

      You also need another semester of *Reading Comprehension* !
      You seem to be the type of person that needs a chalk board and a pack of crayons to make easy concepts understandable ! 🤭
      Let me break it down to you in lame-man terms... exhale is PART of the breathing. You still need the other part which is INHALING. Put them together and BAM !
      Breathing is in process !
      LIKE I SAID... hold your breath and ONLY exhale like those whales are doing until you pass out. Then when someone revives your crazy butt, tell me what step of breathing you were not doing !
