Good job! The Super Eight reminds me of my rack mounted MKS 30 by Roland. I have the external hardware programmer for the MKS 30, so I am used to the controls that are on the Super Eight. The new features that you pointed out - like Polymode versus Monomode modulation - make it even better than the MKS 30. You can get some very pure string pads sounds out of this, too.
It’s so awesome to see a synth like this from NI. There are so many great analog polysynths that have been recently released like Korg Prologue 16, Moog One, etc.., so it’s great to have a similar thing in a VST form. I love analog synths a lot but this is still really awesome. I know there are a lot of good analog synth emulations too but i still mostly end up using this.
One of my favorite go-to synths. Most underrated synth out there. Great for pads, keys, leads, efx, you name it. And best of all, its sooo easy to program - somethng that too many synths, although full of capabilities, fail at. The noise can easilty be fixed by using other modulation siurces to crackle up the sound :)
You can increase the amount of voices to 16 in reaktor. Just press the EDIT button, Press the super 8 where it reads panel > super 8, then right click any module and press properties, then left click on where there's no modules and from the function tab change voices from 8 to 16.
Yes, the screencaps were captured simultaneously with the audio, so the image does reflect the actual patch being played. Unfortunately, I did not save any of this, and all of the patches were either from scratch or heavily modified presets. But if you copy what’s on screen, that should get you in the ballpark, and then you can tweak it from there. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!
Funny, looking back how Massive X actually didn't make it through as a must-have virtual synth. For Roland synths, I've go to Arturia's excellent _Jun-6V and _Jup-8V. This said, NI stuff still is excellent and you simply can't beat the value of their Komplete compilations. Still, the best thing they've done recently is Kontakt 6
That's an interesting point. It's definitely in contrast to the original Massive, which was ubiquitous and essentially a genre defining synth. It was a huge accomplishment! Maybe X was just too late and too different. I've mostly moved on from software synths at this point, but when I was still using them, Super 8 got wayyyyy more use than Massive X! Different beasts, sure, but I always got along with Super 8 more.
I find that many of these synths don't have a place. Because instead you can buy Reaktor and get thousands of ensembles included... several hundred of which will match the capabilities of this separate product. Granular synthesis, drum machines, samplers, effects... so much stuff that you can hack and build from.
Why do they always make these damn synths run in the reaktor player rather than be stand alone plugins? I hate that, its the only thing stopping me buying this damn synth.
The sounds are nice, but I don't like the fact that youtubers are only using presets for producing EDM/Electronic music/Pop music. There are up to 124358 presets in all these vst plugins. But I don't still know why people just use the presets for techno music only. It's frustrating. Not everyone is a techno music producer. Some people are rock music/Soul /R&b and techno sounds have nothing to do with these genres. Please,RUclipsrs, try as much as possible to explore other sounds for other music genres and not just for EDM. PLEASE! That's the best way to convince us to purchase the plugins you're advertising. I'm tired of hearing those buzzy lead synths.
@@ephemeraldgames *I think you are confused, click **24:22** and listen to his "explaination" on why the company named it "Super 8", I'm only correcting his statement, explaining why they chose that name.*
I think it sounds good but rather bland. Listening to the review, it doesn't remind me of anything from the eighties at all, the reviewer just remarks The Super 8 recreates synths from the eighties but doesn't say which one, though Roland gets a few mentions. Eighties synths even with similar specs varied greatly in terms character. To me he Syntronik from IK Multimedia does what it says on the tin for less.
It is inspired by classic synths. And there are visual elements from Roland but no one is saying they built the sound from specific mysterious synths. And the whole idea with this synth is that it's not a recreation of ANYTHING but is an instrument with it's own character. If it doesn't sound like 80's synths to you you have never heard an 80's synth. What exactly makes it sound bland? You are just talking out of your ass with zero knowledge about analog synths. If this was released as a hardware synth in the 80's with all of it's functionalities it could easily have been one the most popular synths in the 80's if not the most popular synth.
@@epicon6 I own several My two favourites are the Roland Jupiter 6 and the Sequential Prophet 600. The Jupiter sounds hard ,edgy and altogether more modern digital while the Prophet sound warm and lush. Also in my collection is an Oberheim 6R which is somewhere in the middle. If the super 8 was released in the eighties price aside the technology would have been viewed a yesterdays tech as FM synthesis by Yamaha was coming to prominence followed by phase distortion by Casio followed by Digital Waveform Generation System by Korg. Analogue synthes came down in price (below £1,000 in the early 80's) leaving the Super 8 out of place in the marketplace.
This is one of the best reviews of a soft synth I've ever seen.
This isnt just a review, this is a lesson!
I have never seen anything this comprehensive and professional. You rock my friend. Thank you for putting so much care and effort into your work.
This is incredibly kind, thanks!
This is one of the best reviews I have seen on YT. From Content, criticism, visuals and sound! Great Work!.
Wonderful in-depth walkthrough of Super 8. Thanks so much for making this and sharing your knowledge!
Very thorough review, keep up the good work 👍🏻
Was on the fence. Came across this review. Grabbed Super 8 immediately.
Excellent video, Donald! Keep up the great work and thank you. Liked & Subbed.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!

Your reviews are great ! This and the massive x are among the best I have seen.

Great review, and I normally do not like analog VST synths but this sound awesome. Subscribes

Highly recommend this synth! Can get a real good variety of sounds from it. Very fun.
Big thanx, Donald, very deep & professional review!
Thanks!
Great thorough review. Very professional. I hope you post more
Thanks for this awesome in-depth review
I grabbed this synth because of the price, and It is easily worth it just for the fun! Let alone the applications

Can the GUI scale up on this synth? It sounds great, but I can't use it, it's tiny!
how does it compare with the engine of the "UDO Super 6"?
whats the patch at 34:49? Does it reflect whats on screen?

you have an impressive way of analytically describing
Stellar work.
No arpeggiators or step seq?
Sounds pretty damn good for a softsynth
I agree. Lots of oomph.
Good review

You can increase the voices if you have Reaktor
How?
Great informative video and great synth, but I noticed no legato.
Fantastic review for a synth that doesn't get nearly enough credit!
Agreed, it's a sleeper!

true .. annoying af, when i bought them i thought these will be standalone synth
yea this should be both...never liked the interface of reaktor...this is why i never use the other synths like skanner etc. aswell...
Use the free reaktor player than you idiot. All ni's synths usually work in their free players.
@@soullessgemini7786 lol.
because it's built in Reaktor. I built my wavetable synth WaveDuo in reaktor as well, hence why you need it to run it.
I bet this was for people that like it

24:22 *Um NO... they LIMITED it to 8 because this was designed to recreate SUPER NINTENDO'S 8 BIT MUSIC, thus the name "Super 8".*
The SNES is a 16 bit console, its evolution from "8 bit music" lead to significantly more complex sounds. I think you're a bit confused, friend
