Got so sick of spending $100-200 on spinning reels that were crap, so a couple years ago my buddy turned me on to the Pflueger Presidents - $60. The Best spinning reel on the market under $200 IMO, I have 8 of them now.
For those that prefer a much lighter reel the Diawa Fuego comes in at around $100 weighs less than seven ounces and as is loaded with advanced features including mag seal to really deal with salt water exposure.
Those bg reels are tanks, one of my best friends uses several, and we’ve put them to test on some massive jack crevalles, snook and reds, and they’ve held up perfectly, hell we’ve even dunked them a few times and they’ve been flawless. Even without rinsing them off. We even use the 5000 for sharks and offshore snapper and grouper, they’re wonderful
I have used and abused the BG reels in saltwater , snook , reds , tarpon , jacks , etc. They are tanks...I can't imagine a bass guy ever wearing one out.
That would be my complaint since BG is so responsive I nearly almost never catch anything with it cuz I reel back too fast 😂 totally a panzer division tank. One day I’ll get a shark 🥹
eliminaror does not have a direct drive handle system (sidecap holds the handle in place instead of connecting directly into the main gear) , not a deal breaker IMO .
I have the BG 3000 and I love it. I live on the Chesapeake bay and mainly fish inshore. This rod is smooth, durable and awesome. I have it paired with St. Croix triumph inshore and it’s my favorite set up I own.
Nice review, I agree with that Jack dude and also like a larger reel head. Another point for the larger spool is that the line flows off the reel more smoothly and rarely has wind knots. Great vid, thanks!
I appreciate the honest reviews!! So I watched your review on the daiwa eliminate and the bg. Was trying to find a good spinning reel around 100$ and you helped tremendously! I bought the bg 3000and I love it! Great reel. Thanks Mikey
I use the Tatula LT spinning reels because they are super lightweight but I started with the Fuego LT and it is a great reel too. The LT won't break. I snagged and landed a 10 lb carp on my Tatula 3000 spinning on a medium light rod.
Great review Mikey. Im in the market myself, and thats about my range. I was going with the Nasci, but that BG has me intrigued. I beat the crap out of my Stradic. My all time favorite spinning reel is an Old Quantum pti 30. I also have the pti750 5.1 to 1 baitcaster for Cranks and Swimbaits under 3 ounces. I know you have one, and that reels the bomb!!! Casts a mile!! Anyway, Bg or Nasci. Great review
BG is a solid reel! I have 2. I use one for saltwater and a 2500 for freshwater. Other than weight, all good. Tackle Advisors has a full breakdown video that is awesome for maintenance.
I've been running the RG's/Regalis on most of my spinning setups. Only $60 and they are a heck of a real for that. Not to mention, cheap enough that I'm not worried about how my clients are treating them like I would with a high dollar reel. I like smaller sizes on my spinning reels as well. As for gear ratio, people get waaay too hung up over it. Spinning reels have a larger diameter spool which picks up line quicker. Looking at the specs on that 2500 size BG it may only have a 5.6:1 ratio, but it recovers line at 33.2" per handle turn. In comparison an 8.1:1 Daiwa Tatula SV baitcaster recovers line at a rate of 34.6" per handle turn.
What up mikey... yeah I've picked up a couple Daiwa spinning reels recently... been pleased with them... I did find better pricing Amazon when I gotem... thx bro, tight lines
A good Shimano comparison is the NACSII 3000. It is $99 , weights 8.8oz. and 35 inch RPT. Also, very smooth. I have a Daiwa Legalis 2500 that I really like. Nice video.
SLX Rod ($99) with a Shimano Nasci ($99), or even the Sahara ($79) the 3000 are about the same size as the 2500’s but they also have the power knobs. Silky smooth rotation + silky smooth drag
I have the BG. Good solid reel. But I also have a few Tatulas. They are light and tough but should only be used in fresh water. If you want best bang for the buck salt and fresh water then get the Balistic. Hands down. Blows the Stradic FL out of the water for salt water use. For me, the Tatula and Fuego get cover everything I do fresh in fresh water. I use my BG and Proceyon for salt inshore.
Thanks for this. I love my shimano baitcasters but at the $100 price point shimano doesnt offer an aluminum frame reel they are slacking in the spinning department at shimano. Not many people do reviews on spinning equipment and I catch a lot of fish on my spinning gear. I just want durable workhorse reels that are solid with good drag and you dont have to pay an arm and a leg to get that.
Mikey I really you might want to look at that is even cheaper and I've been very impressed with it is the Shimano nexave. I've seen them priced anywhere from 50 bucks to 60 bucks I own two of them and for a sub $50 spinning reel they're constructed very well not a lot of plastic on them mostly aluminum frame the drag is as buttery as buttery can get for 50 bucks. And I tried three or four different brands in the same price range flueger Abu Garcia and lose and none of them even came close maybe the lose did bang for your buck the Shimano Nexa is probably the best reel you can buy in that price range. It'd be interesting to see your opinion of it. Great review love the channel
Mikey, have the BG in 2000 size. Great reel, no issues with drag or play in handle. Never had a problem with it in 3 years. I, also, have a Shimano Stradic Ci4. Smoother than the BG but costs $120 more. No issues with either and I fish them pretty hard. I have an older Ballistic that is just bullet proof. It weighs a lot more than the Stradic and BG. Still my favorite with Stradic right there. For the money, BG is best at price point hands down. I have a Nasci too and it’s not bad either. Reels are just leaps and bounds better than 10-15 years ago and any $80-110 spinning reel is going to be good. Too competitive in that range not to be. The Stradic and Ballistic are 2500 size and Nasci 1500 for trout mainly.
One other I forget, watch Tackle Advisors for complete breakdown on spinning reels. He does a lot of saltwater reels but he goes over them pointing out any flaws. He tears them down and shows everything. He highly recommended the BG. Informative like your channel!!! Thanks Mikey!
excellent review, but you would be totally shocked at how good, and smooth and light the diawa regal z is from walmart when you can find them i bought 3 and its significantly better than even my shimano symmetry i paid over 120 for, and the regal z is only $59, its as smooth as my buddy 600 shimano stella!
i have the Diawa Revros the 4000 was all they had at the time at TW but i love it i've pulled in some nice bass with it , i have it on a Lews 7' mh speed stick , nice spinning combo , Diawa is good stuff in my opinion
I think the Daiwa BG and Shimano NASCI are the two best reels on the market in the $100 ballpark. Personally I want a Daiwa BG on a 7’ medium St Croix Mojo Bass rod. I’ll take the Daiwa for the big gear and all that aluminum.
So many people down brands just Bc they have never used em. I’m a die Hard Abu Garcia fan. All my set ups casting and spinning are revo’s on veritas rods. That’s just what I like. I’ve owned diawa shimano lew’s etc. But a lot of Lew’s fans love Lew’s Bc that’s what they’re told to like. Hint when a guy left quantum!!
I just bought the BG 4000.. The problem is my right side of the reel has the long screw inside which makes it very sturdy. But my left side is hallow and my handle screws into the plastic.. The right side is way more sturdy and solid compared to the left side? Why is this.. Thank you... Subbed and Liked,
Good review Mr. Balzz... IMHO sub 100 dollar spinning reels Daiwa has better options and some real Bang for the dollar stuff vs. Shimano. Don't sleep on that Tatula LT, thats a bad boy, been on my main spinning rod for a couple years with not one problem, yes its above you stated budget but if you found one second hand it would be a great buy.
Bro, I am fishing Waughberg lake down here in micanopy next week.... I think you know a little something about that no gas motor lake LOL...just killing time do they start setting up the bed in Orange!!!!
Diawa is legit they make awesome products even the lower end stuff compared to other manufacturers like Shimano. And in my opinion they're high and stuff is the best I have the Ballistic LT it's best spinning reel I've ever owned.
Hey Mickey you got to try the Shimano spheroes SW 119$ it's basically a rebranded stradic fk.. discontinued model.. is it as good as a stradic fl no but it's 70 bucks cheaper and it's on par with the stradic FL..
I LOVE my BG3000! It's the smoothest reel I own. Wipes the floor with my Shimano Sahara. Friend of mine says get the Penn Battle 3 next instead of another BG but, it's going to be tough to get me away from another BG! He says the updated Battle 3 has surpassed the BGs. Any thoughts?
I believe the penn3 has a 5 to 1 ratio and holds less line. Worth looking into, there is a review for both if you can find it. I believe the guy compares the 4000 series.
@@coastalcastingFL Thanks for the reply. 5:1 is lower than the BG but, I’ll have to look at the inches per turn. The BG 3000 has a large spool so more inches per turn. You can’t always find an apples to apples comparison with the reels. Not sure about that big knob on the Battle 3 either. Happy Holidays!
AHHH I've been waiting for this vid.. I've been holding off on a Tatula Lt(glad I did now), to see what you thought of the Eliminator! Is the drag cap on the BG metal???
i'm not very familiar with salmon fishing but i would say if it's a smaller creek style fishery you're good with the the 2500 but if it's big river fishing and you're slanging it way out there or using a bunch of line you might want to go up a size.
You have pretty eyes... lol. I have two Diawa Fuego reels that hold up pretty well. One is 2500 and the other is 3000 for slightly bigger baits like the mag ned ;)

Yea 3 of the best reels for the price in my opinion is The Diawa BG. The Pfluger President. Then one of the most over looked is a Mitchell 300.
I have 6500 side.this is perfect spinning reel
I got the 4500 daiwa and just order a 1800 just because I’m good and don’t drop em in sand which I hear can get into it and get things out of shape.

awesome! you'll dig it. i'm gonna grab another one, i love the drag on it for the price point.

The Eliminator is without a doubt the smoothest and most well built spinning rod I've ever used 🤙

Can this reel hold up to larger fish? For example if a catfish or alligator gar were to get on the hook.
