Great advice and great video as always ! Always works well when I'm varying my shot, but I'm struggling to really implement this into my game as off now 😊I find myself trying to vary my shot when the shuttle is coming towards me, I hesitate between 2 shots and the shuttle ends in the net 😂
What can you do when you have an opponent who varies a lot of his shots ? How can you gain control of the rally ?
Thanks a lot for the video !

it's great advice and well-put. it also apples to doubles, and although the range variations in say, men's doubles, would be a lot less than in singles, a varying attack in men's doubles is essential to penetrating defenses. for example, you are probably not gonna clear in men's doubles, but you can vary forward or reverse slice, combine slice with smashes, vary the steepness of attack (yes, occasionally a flatter smash is more effective in doubles), vary the power, and of course vary the angle of attack. without a sharp tactical sense of variation, it's going to be very difficult to score points against most opponents

Yes, variations are always good no matter what category you play! :)

I hate playing against good tall opponents.
It's a mental & physical struggle for every point. 😢

See it as a challenge instead! You would enjoy it so much once you know how to crack it 😊

@@Basicfeather tall players often struggle to change direction. Dont play down channels too much, play across the net and the back line more than you would against a usual opponent. Also try to play down and keep the initiative, if you are against a strong tall opponent they will attack off every lift so try to minimize lifts.

I try to increase the pace which usually appears to work but then I get gassed out after about 10 points & start making errors 😆😆

how do i play against oponents that keep me in the back?

Depends. You could punch clear as a return to give yourself more time and gain the initiative. Another option could be a half smash as well. There’s a lot of options actually. This wouldn’t work as well if you’re off balance though

Shift your base position more towards the back gallery.
If you have a good smash then punish his weak clears. If you gain points, they will try to lift less.
Try to find out the weakness in your opponent's game.. exploit that.
Try to have a strategy and play to your strengths, take control of the rallies rather than playing reactive badminton.

the most important defense against being pinned to the back is the willingness and ability to move back explosively, early, fast, and long, so that you are squarely behind the shuttle every time, have full options, and your forward momentum carries you smoothly back to your base. if you are not prepared to do that, nothing will really help
if you are moving back explosively, early, fast, and long, one tactic that can help is to jump smash some of your returns. i dont mean an attacking clear, because that can backfire if you are airborne. i am talking about jumping high to a make a high clear. many opponents find this very disconcerting. return high clears may also deploy some degree of forward or reverse slice, (yes, you can slice a clear) affecting trajectory of the shuttle and causing your opponent to believe there is drift or to call for a new shuttle, only to discover it keeps happening
