  • dtcuk.co/ In this today’s video, I am going to show you how to do a reverse around a left corner for the purpose of the driving test. During this exercise, the driving examiner will be marking you on two things. This being control of the vehicle and observations.
    Many learner drivers dread the reverse corner. They, therefore, rush the manoeuvre so they do not have to spend time dealing with it.
    Bearing in mind that the driving examiner is marking you on control of the car not at the speed and at which you do it. In fact, the slower the better. Ideally, the reverse corner wants to be done at crawling speed.
    For the purpose of the driving test, the driving examiner will ask you to stop on the left immediately before the junction. This will give the examiner a chance to look into the side road and assess whether the manoeuvre can be completed. Take advantage of this by assessing the corner. Ask yourself, is it a round corner or is it a sharp corner.
    If it’s a sharp corner, and you probably need a full lock to the left. However, if it is a very rounded corner, even one turn to the left may be too much. Ask yourself how much you would turn if you were driving forward around that corner.
    As I said earlier, learner drivers are eager to finish the corner quickly, hence they move off without checking over their right shoulder. It’s important that you check over your right shoulder even though that you are not pulling out into the road.
    Make easy for yourself by stopping a drains with away from the curb. The driving examiner does not mind how close you stop to the curb but the closer you stop the harder you make it for yourself. Have the window open so that you can hear any approaching traffic.
    So here we are on the main road reversing onto a minor road to our left. Once in reverse, it is important that we make observations. Observe not just to show the examiner observe for yourself. Ask yourself are there any potential hazards such as pedestrians.
    Reversed back at crawling speed until you get your point of turn. Keep Most of your attention on the back and side window. If you find it difficult to observe through the back window, you may rest your hand on the passenger seat. You can also take your seat belt off if you feel it will help. However, if you do remove your seat belt, then you must remember to put it back on. The point of turn is when the kerb starts turning. So see the curb, stop, and in the side mirror for confirmation.
    Before you turn, look all around, see the front the side mirror and your right shoulder in the blind spot. For the average corner turn wheel just under one circle. Reversed further, focusing the side window until the curb disappears. At this point stop and look around again.
    Reversed further, this time focusing on the back window. You see the curb in the back window stop and look around again. Use the side mirrors to keep the car a drains width away from the curb. Steer in small parts.
    OBSERVATIONS
    Observations during the exercise are just as important, if not, more important than the manoeuvre itself. If you were to go wrong in the manoeuvre you can usually correct it. However, if you go wrong in the observations, it is usually late to correct.
    If any see or hear any traffic or pedestrians, stop and re assess. Proceed only it is safe.
    If someone approaches from behind and does not move you may have no option but to start again. However, do not feel pressurised to rush. Make sure that you look over your blind spot before moving forward.
    Bear in mind that the driving examiner is there to see if you can reverse around the corner safely under control.
    He or she is not assessing how fast you can complete it.

    I want to thank you for all the effort you put on your videos to help others. I just arrived to this country two years ago so I was pretty nervous about no reaching the level to pass the test. I watched every single one of your videos for several times and during the test I remembered the “make a manoeuvre at “crawling pace”! 😊 I passed my test on the first attempt. The examiner was pretty surprised. It feels just great! Wish you the best of luck!

    By doing silly mistake, I actually failed my driving test in the last ten minutes moving off while handbrake is on. That wasn't end of the life, it was just a very expensive lesson for me. Honestly, I will never ever forget that point in my life.
    Don't you ever ignore basic thing otherwise it will cost you more than test.

    Quick question, would you use any gas at all? If not, would you fail for stalling the car if bringing the clutch up too much with no gas? Thank you !

    • @dtc_uk
      @dtc_uk  6 лет назад +1

      In a diesel car you do NOT need the gas. However, in a petrol car I would be advisable. And NO you would not fail for stalking in a manoeuvre. 👍DTCUK

    With this and other manouvres (such as parallel parking and bay parking) do you signal (and maintain your signal) when performing it?

    • @dtc_uk
      @dtc_uk  7 лет назад +2

      There is no need to signal for reverse except for parallel parking when you may signal if it would benefit any other road user. DTC-UK
