95% of the people in that room weren't even born yet when this game came out. It was a nice mix of Final Fantasy and Mario. Y'all gonna have lots of fun.
I wasn't born when it came out, but I played it many times on an emulator when I was 8 years old, I have a huge affection for it and I still can't believe that this remake will exist!

Yeah Mario RPG 2 was the project they were working on until Square and Nintendo split.
I recall one of the original creators on the game expressed how much he wanted to make a follow up to this game before he retired

5 years old when it first came out. The remake version is coming out two weeks before my 33rd birthday.
Just about 18 for me. It was a major defining event of my 1996 (consumed my whole summer) and I'll be playing it again too!
Hopefully nintendo takes notice and brings back the original paper mario combat

Yes! I been going around comments saying this lol. I remember I paid $79.99 USD plus tax at Sears because it was the only place that had it and they always charged more for games. But you're right, the standard MSRP was like 75 dollars. Idk why they charged so much for this game?! But I loved it and got so much out of it.

I was hoping and was satisfied if they were going to just give us super Mario rpg for the snes emulator on switch, but this….. is crazy and I’m excited to play it all over again.
It was my childhood. And I can’t even read English nor Japanese at the time but I finished the game with the English player’s guide. I couldn’t explain how excited I was to my wife when I saw that they are releasing a remake of it. I think this video sums it up

My childhood!! I rented this game at Blockbuster not knowing what a Mario RPG would even be like as a kid; maybe 9 years old. I still hum the Forest Maze theme or the Booster Tower theme. I remember solving the puzzle in the ocean. Man, this is awesome.

didnt think this was gonna happen in my life time... kinda crazy always loved this game and played the hell out the one darkkefka modded... but after seeing super mario rpg armageddon they can do so much more with dlc and add funny cameos of other characters as bosses after the main game. they have so much they can do with that... I hope they still are able to use final fantasy stuff if so they could use both pokemon and final fantasy and make something truly fking amazing

This game is amazing, but to short and lacks sidequests and replay value. Almost perfect.
Now that Pokemon has made RPGs more mainstream, I'm hoping this sells 7 million+ and gets at least a 93 on Metacritic.
Super Mario RPG was the most awesome gave ever IMHO. A remake with HD graphics is very welcome.

One of my first RPgs, rented the game several times, played on emulators, still have it on my cellphone nowadays, make no mistakes gentleman, this is a masterpiece, one of a kind, full of nostalgia and square charm.
