While I also like '5 Star' better than 'Hwa', I think putting out 'Hwa' first was intentional and not a mistake. CL hadn't done promotion in years and I think that 'Hwa' is much more of a headbanger and is easier to bring in new fans with, listen to, and promote on TV than the more chill and mellow '5 Star'. Lure them in with 'Hwa' and make them stay with '5 Star'.
It honestly bothers me hearing Hwa called a mistake. I think the real mistake is not understanding the song and it's message. I already wrote about it on that video so I won't again. 5 Stars was released on the same day as Hwa dance performance video so really they were released at the same time. The official videos were the ones released on separate days. It doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not a sound we gravitate towards. I loved HWA but I think that song was more relatable to Koreans or fans who are familiar with K culture since it is a song that had heavy references to the Korean Culture, i.e. The K version of Red Light, Green Light, the word HWA in itself has many meanings in Korean, "Anger, Flower, Painting etc..." and CL mentioned that the title HWA in her song means ALL OF THOSE MEANINGS, in a way, the word itself holds multiple entendres. & lastly, HWA represents the S.Korean National Flower. Hence, "The Hibiscus has bloomed" which probably was her way to tell the world that she's back. She is the few K-Pop artist who heavily incorporates her culture into her music. She has always represented her culture in her work and she's proud of it despite growing up overseas. Most GZBs & Blackjacks are in our mid to late 20s & above 30s tbh. If you're younger or older, shoutout to everyone too man! hahaha. BTW, she's postponing her Album release to early 2021. Since she's in LA now, she met up with her team at SB Projects & they decided to work further on her craft. I really think she's experimenting with her sound & musical direction. I mean, it's probably the first time she has total control on her music since leaving YG Entertainment. She upped & left the company leaving songs she's recorded, which she didn't have rights to. It's really sad to know that she's (obviously) recorded so many songs but couldn't release them. I truly respect her for not giving up her dream despite being locked in the YG dungeon for years & now releasing tracks that are risky cause they aren't the typical YG/CL sounds. Can't wait for ALPHA to release in 2021! Finally something to look forward to~ I'm afraid if I set the bar too high, I'll be disappointed but honestly, at this point idk what to expect from CL. Then the group broke up andher company was so involved in so many other projects that YG (CEO) himself just sidelined her for WAY too long, especially in the world of the kpop music industry. So her album is delayed till early next year and she is still trying to find her groove. CL is in a class of her own.
