Just a tip for any ladies with really dry skin but they want the benefits from ingredients that can be drying like, aha, bha, azalaic acid, niacinamide, vit c etc. I usually use a mild, non stripping face wash, than whatever acids or serums that could cause dryness, than apply aveeno calm and restore skin therapy balm (it’s a collidal oatmeal skin protectant) it has some good ingredients like oatmeal, glycerine, panthanol, and cerimide but also has a little petroleum in it so it’s kind of like slugging on top and will counteract any dryness that the other things may cause. I love the texture because it’s more a thick cream with a hint of petroleum not too sticky like Vaseline. Great for around the eyes. I don’t like the price which is 20$ for a 1.7 oz tube but a little goes a long way and it’s lasting surprisingly long. I actually picked it up on clearance when it was $5 because my six yr old has eczema and it’s part of the eczema line but I used it when my skin was inflamed and barrier was compromised after using some harsh products and over exfoliating and my skin loved it so I been using it daily ever since 4 months ago. I’m usually a very cheap shopper but will continue to get this one.
When using the aveeno for your face, it’s really not too expensive at 20$ because it will last a while but when I initially bought it, I was going to use it for my child’s body and with it being such a little tube, I was shocked at the original price because I can’t imagine it cover your body in that many uses. With that being said. I usually use a different oatmeal cream on her entire body and will use this aveeno balm over top, only in areas with flare ups and it really does help but so does pure petroleum jelly over collidal oatmeal cream on her eczema

Obviously everyone’s skin is different, but this is just the first time I’ve heard this explanation before and I feel so validated😭
So before this video, were you just walking around thinking that this product wasn’t what was irritating your skin even after you discovered that it was? And if so, why did you need this video to validate your lived experience? Asking because I am very confused by the hundreds of comments under videos saying that this or that is validating..
@@ntombiyanimasinaHey there, can you tell me what's your skin type and so it didn't work for you as I have oily acne prone skin and reading the comments I'm so confused whether I should buy it or not?? Thanks:)
This is my 1st product from the ordinary brand. I was so scared to try it because i have a sensitive oily acne prone skin. And also this brand is expensive in here. But i used it and it was a game changer for me. I couldn't get niacinamide serum that has less than 10%. Niacinamide was not a famous in here and the only thing i can find was the ordinary one. So i tried it. My acne disappeared. Scars faded. Large pores are less visible. I'm still using it. I think it repaired my skin barrier that i ruined in my early 20's.. It was like a miracle for me. ❤
My face got so red and hot when I used it the first time that I had to wash it off. I tried it again a week later and I had no negative reaction so I kept using it in summer and winter, my most problematic seasons for my skin, but I noticed that it did nothing except that I hated how the product made my skin feel and look. It's hard to describe it, it was like a film on my skin, like a mask or a barrier that nothing can penetrate after it dried down a little before using moisturizer. It made my face look shiny but also very dry at the same time. It didn't feel nice to the touch either. And even after putting on moisturizer my skin felt tight and dry after like half an hour and when I furrowed my brows my skin on my forehead stretched almost painfully and my skin got a little flaky there and on my cheeks as well. It was especially bad during winter time
She's absolutely right! When I used Niacinamide 10% (or 20%) in my face, in 24h my face became so oily, bumpy, irritated that I had no other choice but to stop using it. HOWEVER, it reaaaaally helped with my butt and back acne.
Stick to Cerave pm .. it has 4% niacinamide, hyalauronic acid and 3 types ceramides along with great moisturising ingredients.. multi product .. good for the skin and pocket
This is sooo validating. I can’t use the niacinamide from the ordinary it is so irritating for me. I’m using up my bottle on my body now. It’s made me nervous about niacinamide in general but it’s nice to know it’s probably fine in smaller doses like in other products.
It’s been perfectly fine for me- even with daily use. Haven’t broken out and I love what it’s done to my face- my face is brighter and even stoned. Also helped my hyperpigmentation 👌
You are sooo right doc this same product gave me the worst acne breakouts...Although, it's much more expensive now I m using proper skin care instead of raw actives without any ingredients to help my skin barrier to feel hydrated and healthy
Thank you for saying this!!! Because so many of beauty brands use such high percentage of actives which then negate the point of the active and this especially harmful for skin with higher melanin ...so frustrating 😑 😒
Look, everybody's skin is different. My skin responds very well to this formula. And reading the comments, clearly I'm not the only one. There's plenty of other formulas under 10%. It's good to have variety so that every one can find something that suits their needs. Videos like this do not help. Someone might be scared to try it now when it actually might work for them.
@@lilycha9398sometimes you gotta try things yourself going to a dermatologist eliminate trying out new things, I’ve been to dermatologists since I was in middl school and everything they gave me made my acne and skin texture worse until I started doing things my way and figured what worked with my skin.
Niacinamide is used to only control oil, which is why a lot of people with acne/oily skin find that it works best for them. It always removes the little fungal bumps i have on my forehead, and you’re supposed to use a few drops. Not more than that
I mix my 10% with another serum before applying so it ends up working out beautifully for me. So, I'm happy they have 10% for those that prefer to mix or for those that can tolerate it. Even using the 10% alone worked amazingly well for me.
My skin is already sensitive (and I’m most likely allergic) but it makes sense that my skin couldn’t handle this product. I’m glad you are talking about this because I feel like lots of people not education about formulas and the effect it has on the skin.
I wish I knew this before. I was so hopeful for this product with so many great reviews. But totally ruined my skin in just several days of using it, I had to stop. Broke me out really bad! And a month later, I am still trying to heal my face 😢
I ran out of that stuff a few months ago, my skin started glowing! Restocked it and immediately broke out sooo bad it was painful. Immediately returned the product and declared I’d never use it again. Thanks doc for helping me pinpoint my skin type and teaching the importance of formulation as well as consistency > intensity
This product is heaven for my skin. Last year unfortunately I stopped using this and due also to the stressful period I got really bad hormonal acne. I had a small breakout only the very first time I used it years ago
when i first used it, seemed great! but later on i kept getting those milia seed looking stuff on my face and i stopped using any products with niacinimide (regardless %)… too bad i’m oily skin and cant use it anymore 😭😭
I didn't know this and I got it, but I've been using almost daily without any problems, so I'll finish the bottle because I can't bring myself to waste it
I reacted to this product the same way I reacted to prescription grade retinols. First my face was irritated so I used it a couple times a week, and increased as my skin got used to it. Just like retinols when you start to use a new active ingredient, start gentle to see how your skin reacts
I have just started using this (35 and normal to dry-ish and sensitive skin) and it does not irritate my skin. Too early to see results but my skin feels amazing. I hope it will fade some pregnancy pigmentation and fine lines. We will see!
Initially it worked amazingly. I think when you're using other actives it breaks you out or dries out your skin. If you're using only this product you're good to go
I'm using an 8% niacinamide serum for years now (at least in the morning and also sometimes at night) and am really happy with the results. I also have neurodermatitis. I do react to some ingredients negatively, but this seems to be fine. I think it's very personal, what works for you. The other ingredients also play a role. I have tried using a toner with 5% and it irritated my skin a lot. I would actually love to try that serum 😂
I can only agree. High concentrations of niacinamide breaks me out badly, mainly at the brows and chin- sometimes even at 5%. But finding something that is like, 2-4% is hard, because every product that has a percent for it has 5-10%.
As desperate unlucky with the problematic skin (acne, scars, dilates pores with sebaceous filament and redness) I bought this product anyway cause of my curiosity, and now I'm using it all over my back which has some pimples and pigmentation. Actually, it works not wonders but there are slight changes I can observe. Still testing
I’ve been using this product for over 2 years, my acne skin prone loves it, I don’t have a sensitive skin just oily af, just like retinol some people find it too harsh. I understand that Doc it’s giving advice to general people and not particular cases
Yes! When I changed from Ordinary to Anua my skin healed! Guys it’s time to go for korean skin care. All I use is tretinoin at night (still have active acne) and Anua niacinamide 5% + Anua heartleaf soothing toner. And of course double cleanse with oil cleanser and foam cleanser afterwards.
I'm approaching 60 and I recently started using the Ordinaries 10% niacinamide and their retinol oil at night because I was really pissed off with my dermatologists CO2 lazer treatment for my facial wrinkles and virtical lip lines which showed no results at all. In fact the lazer treatment had adverse results causing the fat in my cheeks to diminish giving me a hollow appearance. I'm also a thin person. This 10% has worked wonders. I'm starting to see more volume on my skin. You must use a good organic moisturizer on top.
As for me this product works totally great, I love it! It helped me with the acne and shining (sebum over producing) it was my game changer (alsa after rhinoplasty when you usually have problem with blocked pores on your nose and around), retinol was too strong for me, and that saved my life!!! Love it❤
I wish I had of seen this before buying 10%. However I have extreme oily skin & using a pea size amount am & pm with no effect as of yet. When I use vitamin c at night over the niacinamide I do get a tingling feeling. My skin is looking good. Can't wait to finish what I bought so, I can use 5%. Brands to buy would be very much appreciated.
Honestly love my niacinamide at 10%! I tried a 5% formula and it didn’t do much for my hyperpigmentation but when I tried a 10% serum it helped clear my breakouts AND faded my hyperpigmentation 🙌🏾 I use the Vita B revitalizing serum from Fazed by Nature. Absolutely love this Niacinamide serum! I usually just order it on Amazon. So yeah everyone skin is different!
It was the most perfect product ever for my beyond oily skin until I started a round of isotretinoine. Even taken in Hollywood Dose, I can' t stand B3 now. It itches, burns and flakes. Makes total sense that some people cannot even touch the bottle and some other found their holy grial because I' ve been in both sides. 🧛🏻♀️🖤
If your skin is sensitive, sure, but most people have normal/ non sensitive skin, where higher concentration can be beneficial. I’m using a korean brand with 25% niacinamide and my skin is soft like a baby, I have never experienced that before, and in quite short time too. If I used a low concentration it probably wouldnt be this obvious and I likely would have dropped it
I actually use this product maybe once a week and it works great for my acne, stops my breakouts almost immediately and I usually have sensitive skin but this works for me, also great in your pits for controlling body odor
Talk about different strokes for different folks: Paula's Choice Skincare has a 20% niacinamide product, from which many people derive enormous benefit. Is it irritating for some? Yes, but some people will react poorly to even theoretically gentle good formulations. As with all topical products, patch testing before normal application provides disaster mitigation.
Do you have any tips for those of us who have already bought that one? Would it work to use it every other day until it runs out, or to use it on say the skin on our hands or body instead? 😊
I use Paula's Choice 20%, it is incredible. I will never be without. Combined with PC 2% BHA my skin has never looked better. Pores gone. It doesn't irritate my skin, I get a little flushing with Vit C, and it fades quickly.
This product changef my life for the better. It was my first time using niacianimide . I used to have an oil t zone . Always melting my face . This serum just stopped it for good . No irrritation but it does affct ur skin collagen . It makes ur skin a bit thinner
I use Natuium 3% niacinamide. Reading usage of niacinames I myself felt 10% niacinamide would be too harsh and drying for my normal/dry mature complexion. A youtube dermatologist Dr. Anil Rajani recommended 3% niacinamide. Soil googled what brands and chose Naturium. Great ingredients. I use a few Naturium products
I used that product before, my skin liked it enough and I did not experience irritation… but I decided to just stick to using Differin every night and hyaluronic acid serum on in the morning on my damp face. I wash my face twice a day with a mild AHA cleanser, and I use plain Cetaphil lotion as an eye cream and hydrating mask every other day because it’s too heavy to be used as moisturizer on my oily, acne-prone skin. When I get zits, I use hydrocolloid pimple patches, or I apply a little Benzoyl Peroxide. That’s it for my skincare regime and it’s working great so far.
I agree! I was self administrating the same brand with same concentration and never worked for me. It also irritated my skin, esp on eyelids and earlobes. My derm then switched me to 4% niacinamide and that has done wonders fo me.
Oh my god i am so happy someone said this!!! I have sensetive combo skin and i have suffered from irritation due to this!!! And its not just this one, its glow recipe dew drops and the inkey list one as well! After a while i realised its gotta be the 10 percent! Now i use a korean one axis y which is like 5% and my skin has never been happier
If you find it too strong, don’t throw it away. Dilute it with your cerave moisturizer or use it as a spot treatment and see first if it works for you better this way!
Great! Glad to know I’m not the only one. People love and rave about this product and it really irritated my skin. I was super confused. Turns out, way too much for me. Still love niacinamide, just at a different concentration and formulation.

What type of skin are yours? I use this n I feel my skin gets drier n itchier after😅
@@divine2310 My skin is actually kinda dry tbh. I don’t how, but niacinamide really does wonders for my skin! Also, I feel like it covers my skin in a firming layer, so the fine lines are totally gone in the morning
I love that product! My skin loves it, I never had any problems with it whatsoever
I feel so validated! I used this for a long time in my routine before I found out this was the product causing tons of irritation for me. After I cut it, my skin got better!
Not me seeing this video after I purchased it 😢, used it for a few days and I developed hives
@@ntombiyanimasinaHey there, can you tell me what's your skin type and so it didn't work for you as I have oily acne prone skin and reading the comments I'm so confused whether I should buy it or not?? Thanks:)
Every skin is different. This is the exact one I use, and it's done amazing things to my skin. I swear by it
This is my 1st product from the ordinary brand.
It was especially bad during winter time
That product actually works really well for me. I even have pretty bad eczema. But, still be careful if it really is that irritating for everyone
i LOVE this product. changed my skin.
She's absolutely right! When I used Niacinamide 10% (or 20%) in my face, in 24h my face became so oily, bumpy, irritated that I had no other choice but to stop using it. HOWEVER, it reaaaaally helped with my butt and back acne.
Same! I love The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% it helps clear my acne too. Improves my skin’s texture and elasticity ❤
Stick to Cerave pm .. it has 4% niacinamide, hyalauronic acid and 3 types ceramides along with great moisturising ingredients.. multi product .. good for the skin and pocket
I agree with this. I don't understand the reliance on standalone niacinamide serums. People should just find a moisturizer with the ingredient.
Each skin is different, for me this product is a must have 😍
My skin is more brighter with fewer blemishes 😊
I thought I was allergic to niacinimide or smthing bcs this product broke me out! Maybe I can tolerate a smaller percentage?
I got better results with cetaphil
I love this type of content!
I have absolutely no problem with that serum never has it ever inflamed my skin...
True, i blew up my face with that stuff😢 i stick to 4 % now.
My skin loves that stuff. 🤷
Mines also 👍🏼
Same
Thank you for saying this!!!
What helps is to consult your dermatologist rather than doing it by yourself.
@@lilycha9398sometimes you gotta try things yourself going to a dermatologist eliminate trying out new things, I’ve been to dermatologists since I was in middl school and everything they gave me made my acne and skin texture worse until I started doing things my way and figured what worked with my skin.
Love your channel! Can you please recommend affordable cleanser, toner, moisturizer and whatever else I need for this 44 year old!
Niacinamide is used to only control oil, which is why a lot of people with acne/oily skin find that it works best for them. It always removes the little fungal bumps i have on my forehead, and you’re supposed to use a few drops. Not more than that
Do you think that is useless or even bad for dryness prone skin?
I mix my 10% with another serum before applying so it ends up working out beautifully for me. So, I'm happy they have 10% for those that prefer to mix or for those that can tolerate it. Even using the 10% alone worked amazingly well for me.
I love that you're doing these walk-throughs because it helps with choosing the products. :)
Yep. My skin absolutely hated TO niacinamide serum. The irritation was REAL.
I have very little I can't tolerate on my skin. It's really helped me and continues to.
This product is heaven for my skin.
Last year unfortunately I stopped using this and due also to the stressful period I got really bad hormonal acne.
I had a small breakout only the very first time I used it years ago
Do you have tips for rosacea skin? Like a skincare routine we could follow? 😶
I use the Niacinamide powder from the Ordinary and mix it with Arginine serum....works on my dry skin beautifully ❤
when i first used it, seemed great! but later on i kept getting those milia seed looking stuff on my face and i stopped using any products with niacinimide (regardless %)… too bad i’m oily skin and cant use it anymore 😭😭
Very intelligent dermatologist!!
Keep up the GREAT WORK!!
👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼👍🏼
Destroyed my skin that 10% ...my eczema reappeared...so max5%
I have been using that since 2016, and my skin is HAPPY
I didn't know this and I got it, but I've been using almost daily without any problems, so I'll finish the bottle because I can't bring myself to waste it
If you don't have any problem using it no need to change ..
@@AD-jq7owABSOLUTELY 💯 ❤❤❤
I reacted to this product the same way I reacted to prescription grade retinols. First my face was irritated so I used it a couple times a week, and increased as my skin got used to it.
Just like retinols when you start to use a new active ingredient, start gentle to see how your skin reacts
Omg I’ve been using this for so long. It saved my skin but good to know ! I’ll try to get one that’s not as potent next time
I will never stop using this serum as long as they make it. This and the hyaluronic acid serum fixed my skin in a month. I was mind blown!
Why are you always were in the rainbow bracelet?
What’s a good alternative product?
I have just started using this (35 and normal to dry-ish and sensitive skin) and it does not irritate my skin. Too early to see results but my skin feels amazing. I hope it will fade some pregnancy pigmentation and fine lines. We will see!
Initially it worked amazingly. I think when you're using other actives it breaks you out or dries out your skin. If you're using only this product you're good to go
This worked wonders on my skin ❤❤
I bought that exact The Ordinary niacinamide serum and it burned my skin! Now I know why. Thanks Doc!
I’ve been using this for about a month on my oily acne prone combination skin. No irritation and my skin has cleared up. I’m 52 😊
That serum literally made my skin burn. I’m relieved to hear I’m not the only one who’s had a bad experience with it😭
Talk about different strokes for different folks: Paula's Choice Skincare has a 20% niacinamide product, from which many people derive enormous benefit.
Thank you Doc for being honest and telling the truth to the public 🙏
It's not the truth. This product helps my skin a lot (read most comments 😅😂)
This product changef my life for the better. It was my first time using niacianimide . I used to have an oil t zone . Always melting my face . This serum just stopped it for good . No irrritation but it does affct ur skin collagen . It makes ur skin a bit thinner
I have very sensitive skin and I used the Naturium 12% niacinamide 2% zinc and my skin has transformed. Love it. My skin hated the Ordinary.
i have used this for more than 6 years. never once i don't stock. this was my entrance to clear skin. and only this.
I guess everyone is different. I use Niacinamide serum 12% plus Zinc 2% by Naturium. It has done wonders for my skin. I Love it,!!
Thank you for this
I was trying to figure out what was irritating my skin, and I didn't even consider this product because I thought this was an anti-inflammatory. Your videos are great. 😊
I use it only on my nose and the cosrx one and have super sens3 skin but haven't had any problems. Put it on anywhere else and it causes inflammation and breakouts.
