trust me, when you get into Haikyuu far enough, you will basically root for EVERY SINGLE team in the show, whether they are playing against Karasuno or not ... that's just how good the character building in Haikyuu is.
YES I love Haikyu for this, it shows every teams desire to win and why they also deserve it 😭❤️
Yeah I all ways end up wanting a certain team or character (except for inariazaki) to win at some point.
YESS!!, and that's because the series shows the other teams not as enemies but as rivals, and a good rivalry is that one where you respect and acknowledge the other but you want to be better than them and you can still be friendly with them, also the show gives u a inside view of the other teams so you don't see them as strangers but as characters with their own stories and mindsets and perpectives, in my case, my favourites on this show are not in karasuno actually lol, my favourites are Kuroo, Tendo and the miya twins (the twins are a personal like cuz i just simply love twins anywhere and these twins dynamic is so funny and cute)
YES! I remember the last game against Oikawa that first I was like "SMASH HIM, KAGEYAMA" and in the end I was just crying like "I don't care who'll win anymore, guys, give it your best 😭"

Oikawa is off putting for a lot of people, but he’s also a fan favorite within the fandom. It sounds contradictory, but you’ll understand as you continue to watch (particularly in season 2!) He’s a really complex character and personally, I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t like Oikawa LMAO (but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion ofc 🥰)
Also, the 3 people on the team you weren’t familiar with are the second years. They were briefly introduced a couple of episodes ago as the players who ran away when old Ukai (current Coach Ukai’s grandpa) came back to coach because he’s scary and practices became really intense. They rejoined when he left and are determined to do their best on the team now. Tbh I adore them and they’ll get their own moments to shine in later seasons.

That scene showing Tsukki staring at his jersey actually tells you a lot about his character. He acts aloof but really he’s got volleyball on his mind just like the other boys because the tournament is happening soon. He also likes dinosaurs. There’s pictures and figurines displayed on his bookshelf. Lol Tsukki’s my favorite. I stan a salt dino loving nerd.

Exactly, but honestly I never hated Tsukki, just never gave him much attention. But, I started loving him since the second season after Bokuto and Kuroo taught him more effective blocking and after seeing his childhood. Elem Tsukki is precious 💗
To be honest I never liked Tsukki and I still don't like him (I don't dislike him either). Hate me as much as you want, but not everyone likes the characters that you like, and if they do it might be for a different reason🤷🏻♀️
Oh, I also dislike Oikawa, and since I finished the manga the "wait and see" won't work on me
Edit: Apparently you don't get what I mean so I'll try to make it even easier to understand. Don't just say "You'll love X when you discover their past, etc" because that is not necessarily true.

About our views on Oikawa : He's genuinely one of the best written characters in the series and most of us have a love- hate relationship with him. I mean its impossible not to like him, come on.

Now, in Japan calling a person by the first name is a big deal, so only if you are friends and (or) same year you use it (or at least you can add polite "-san" in the end, as Nishinoya does for Asahi), so the youngest will use mostly last names, but same year guys, especially 3d years might go with the first name, so don't get confused, it's just different culture :)

But because Sugawara surname is used as a nick name, they don't use his first name around the team.

The captain's complete name is sawamura daichi. His friends call him daichi, while his juniors call him sawamura-san
Or Daichi-san....
Daichi is his first name and Sawamura is his last name. Japanese have this thing where only like family or really close friends call you by you first name. It’s considered super rude to call someone by their first name without that person’s permission. So even a teacher will call Daichi Sawamura-Kun.

I don't mind the sub but to be honest when I tried sub and dub, I was much more invested, and got into the show when I watched it in dub.
I find the dub to be hilarious. I love both sub and dub for this show, just in different ways

The comments made on Asahi when they were walking into the venue were just rumours based on his appearance- he looks a lot older than he is and he hasn’t been held back. The situations that came first were fabrications- whereas the second situations were what actually happened. Also can I just say I’m so hyped for you to get to the later seasons, the growth is impeccable 😌✨

When Victoria switched from sub to dub and was like, "Their voices don't match!", I literally shrieked hahaha. Japanese voice actors are phenomenal.
I would say there are a handful of anime that i prefer the dub on, typically older ones, but mostly prefer the original Japanese.

"Daichi" is his own name and the meaning of the word is "ground" or "the earth."
I guess this express his character and his role in the team (as a mental support).
@Ay Fat Yes, many of the names are metaphors.
Just like; Hinata Shoyo = "sunshine",
Kageyama = "shadow" of mountains,
Tsukishima = "the moon" lighting islands,
Asahi = "dawn".
These all names explain the rotation of Karasuno.
When the "sun" rises, beautiful "dawn" comes and "shadow" becomes deep behind them. When the "sun" goes down, the "moon" rises.
(= Hinata attracts blocks and Asahi can get points. When Hinata goes behind Tsukki comes forward to block.)

You can vibe with every single character in this show simultaneously, no exception.
The three characters you don't feel like you know at all, don't sweat it. They really haven't gotten a chance to shine yet and haven't even been properly introduced yet. They're all 2nd years just like Tanaka and Nishinoya. One of those nameless crows is probably most suited to being team captain whenever the 3rd years retire... but don't really think about it too much.
She’s becoming more invested after every ep.
Imagine how invested she will be seeing season 3 with:
-Noya saving the balls
-The growth

They did cast this show for a Japanese musical and the actors look exactly the same.

About the live action actors thing, THERE’S HAIKYUU STAGE PLAYS WITH REAL ACTORS AND THEY ARE GLORIOUS AND CHAOTIC AND AHHHHH
If you want to like Tsukki, don't worry, his time will come and I can't wait for you to get there.
The vibe on Oikawa is fantastic, he's got such an incredible character arc for an antagonist.

there was a bit of flashback in the golden week camp though, when ennoshita told hinata and kags about them running away from training. but yeah, it was very brief

Well, it's all because of him being a sour that's why we, haikyuu fandom called him "saltyshima" short for salty Tsukishima.
47:40 l love oikawa...at first u may hate but he is so passionate about vollyball and he does not have natural talent like kageyama and he always rely on hardwork and teammates.

-You pronunciation for Nekoma is acceptable.
-Kageyama wasn’t really “freaking out”, it was more like he’s trying to not repeat his mistakes from middle school. He just wants to do his best 🥺

You've mentioned of "what-if's" of additional series that would include more insides of Nekoma & Kenma - there are such ones - these are called OVA series - in the further seasons there are some OVA's that explains the Nekoma more, also they are mostly around the Kenma, so we get to understand him more - you deifnitely should watch it (in future, when you will be up-to-date with whole series, as they are based near the 3rd and 4th seasons)
If she does watch the OVA’s then i feel like she should watch the first one after the training camp in season 2

You know what you were saying about the movie? Haikyuu actually has a bunch of stage plays, and the actors somehow embody the characters so well. The actor who played Asahi for most of them, Justin Tomimori (he's Japanese-Australian, which is why he has an English name, and is actually why he's taller than most of the other actors) looks so much like Asahi, it's uncanny.

I remember seeing somewhere that the author said Oikawa and Kiyoko are the hardest characters to draw because of their good looks. Honestly at first I didn’t like Oikawa because he seemed too self-centred but now he’s one of my favourite characters along with Kuroo (and Bokuto and Tendō who you haven’t met yet). Oikawa is such a great character because he’s well aware of the strengths and weaknesses not only of himself, but also the rest of his team, and I think he can really bring out the best in people which you’ll see more in season 2. Honestly he really shines in season 2 and that’s definitely the time you’ll start to like him more.
After reading all of that all I want to say is I love Kuroo too I can't wait to spill all the facts about him

okay omg, i'm at the part where you were talking about if the characters were in a movie or something AND GUESS WHAT!!!!!!!!!! there isnt a movie, but there's the haikyuu play which is so chaotic and oh god, when i saw the clips of it, i fell in love with all the characters again.

Actually, the movie idea has been brought to life! There is an live action play of Haikyuu with actors for every team and everything! It covers everything up from the story so far but I recommend you watch the full anime series first before watching it since it spoils!
Three things:
- I can't wait for next tuesday, it's gonna be great.
- You're gonna love Tsukkishima sooner or later, he is amazing.
- Oikawa seems a little dreamy, at some points even arrogant, at the beginning but he is literally the deepest character in the entire show. Oikawa is sooooo awesome ❤

That last shot of Hinata falling gracefully after spiking is so badass. Also I just REALLY hope you don't get spoiled Victoria. So much of this show is hype and tension when it comes to the tournament games. Knowing who wins or who does what takes the bite out of it a bit. Be careful with the comment section!

The amount of times Victoria wishes for something to happen in the show and me just screaming at my screen that it will happen is absolutely insane! I can’t wait for her to watch everything!!

The thing that's so great about Haikyu is that not everybody can win and the show doesn't shy away from showing you the bitterness and frustrations that follow. There are no bad guys in Haikyu. There are just teams... and they all want to win.
@@sindri1447 Exactly, I always loved how both sides get equal screen time so even when you feel happy that "our" team won you feel the sting of the losing team as well!
this show gets so much more intense to the point where you be jumping out of your seat screaming during one of their games-

Honestly, I love that you refer to Karasuno as “us” and “our” I think we all started it at some point watching the show😂it just came naturally
And about the thing about different perspectives in shows and movies and so on, I’m thinking about that so often, but in Haikyuu it’s like at some point you will probably start not only hoping for Karasuno to win but also for the other teams because the characters and backgrounds and everything is just so well portrayed that you will end up asking the universe why there can only be one winner - or I’m the only one, also a possibility 😂😂
Edit: The English voices really don’t fit the characters in my opinion. But, I don’t know, not just in the I’m used to other voices kind of way but in the the voices just don’t fit their personalities kind of way. Does that make sense?😂 No hate on the VAs of course💗
Edit 2: Sorry, that comment just gets longer and longer😂 but with the movie cast you remembered me of the Haikyuu Stage Play which is soooooo good! I love it and it would be so cool if you reacted to these, too!! The actors are also so on point! 🥰❤️
Edit 3: Well, about Oikawa, you will find many people who love him but also people who hate him. In my opinion he is a pretty realistic and authentic character with flaws and insecurities that many people have to face and deal with. And also much skill for which he worked hard and a great character set up.
Exactly my thoughts! Everytime I watch their games, I cheer for both teams 😆.. And Oikawa 🤧

I completely agree about Oikawa. Like, he gets a lot of hate, but he's just so realistic and I think I would vibe with him in real life!
Episode 16 is the one that hooked me, it brought out memories and feelings from long ago when I was young.

If you want to see the characters in "real life", they made a series of musicals for theatre with actual Actors. Go search "engeki haikyuu project" and you'll find them!
Yep and I really reccomend it the actors really brought out their characters personality especially shoyo
I love all of them, specially first-gen actors and actresses all of them make me feel Haikyuu in real life

yeeeees the actors r so good and play their roles amazingly. my fav one is shinka no natsu, but that's further ahead in the timeline than victoria's watched so far
