@@sainap14 No, the BMX is a fixed gear with usually no brakes since its a fixed gear it can be good for acceleration but only for 500m because after that you would suffer energy drain not to mention the BMX is a small and mid heavy bike not good for speed, and that if you faced a RB using a BMX you might probably have noticed he was using one of the lower gears(one of the biggest in the cassette)or just resting and all that you dont have to read because *in short bmx are slow, heavy, small, cant climb, cant sprint, and not reliable*

It’s not a bad idea to TRAIN using a mountain bike. The extra width of the tire and the off road tread provides more resistance. After a while of training on that, make the switch to a road bike.
the gear inches would be too different I think, with the mtb’s smaller chainring and larger max cog. Also the different geometries would involve different riding habits and postures. I reckon a single speed with a similar geometry would be better
