Back in 1977, the Punk scene was so new in London that few actual Punk albums existed to play in Punk clubs. So DJ Don Letts played Reggae albums overhead - specifically Dub. This infusion was one of the primary sparks that created Post-Punk - and every scene after. Lee Perry was a creator of the world we know today.
The brutal bass lines from lots os post-punk music have reggae/dub inspiration. PIL, The Clash, Siouxsie... it's crazy how much influential Jamaica was to music from 80s to the present
I just found out Lee "Scratch" Perry died yesterday. I could post 100 videos and songs and still not get the point across of how influential and tremendously talented he was. Some of the best Dub Reggae projects I've ever heard included him. Obviously Beastie Boys but Mad Professor, Bill Laswell, Bob Marley, Max Romeo, Junior Murvin... the list is literally endless. When I first heard of Lee Perry I heard he burned down his Kingston Jamaica Music Studio because he thought it was haunted. A Madman. A fucking genius of epic proportions. His body of music and influence speaks for itself and will be doing so until the end of time. Rest in Peace. Jah Bless

Not only from electronic, Reggae is the root of all music. And so many #1 hits in mainstream, are Reggae tracks before covering. Bless the peoples 🌈🌈🌈✡️🙏🕊️
@@mr.raymzdaphonix6587 Seriously people GET A GRIP! As much as i love Dub - the idea that ALL roots of electronic music let alone ALL MUSIC is based on Reggae is one of the dumbest things i have ever heard. Reggae itself evolved out of Rocksteady and Ska, wich evolved out of Rhythm & Blues, Gospell etc. - so how the hell can Reggae be "the root of all music"? And electronic music existed long before reggae, it started with Lew Thermin and his Theremin in 1920 and Friedrich Trautwein and his Trautonium in 1930, later Radiophonic Workshop in UK, Studio for Electronic Music in Cologne, San Francisco Center for Tape Music and the Musique Concrete circle in Paris - all in the FIFTIES - long before Reggae existed, then Moog invented the first Synthesizer in the early Sixties, still a few years before Reggae existed. And even after Reggae came up there were still electronic music styles who had absoluetly no Reggae or Dub influences at all. Hip Hop, Drum & Bass, Dubstep and Dubtechno are obviously influenced by Dub and Soundsystem culture but Ambient Music, Industrial, EBM, Trance, Techno and House have no ties to Reggae at all. -Techno was basically a mix of afroamerican Funk and Jazz influences and european electronic music like Kraftwerk, Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire etc. - House was basically a mix of Funk, Jazz and even Gospel combined with european Disco music - Ambient evolved out of early academic electronic music and Berlin school "cosmic music" wich evolved out of Krautrock - Trance evolved out of Berlin school sequencer music and early techno and EBM influences - EBM developed out of Industrial music, minimal electronic music and Punk attitude, - Industrial was developed as part of performance art
OK then, please explain how Halim El-Dabh or Wendy Carlos root back to Lee Perry? What’s the root to musicians like Fennesz. Tim Hecker, Tobacco or Black Moth Super Rainbow for instance? Lee Perry is a legend but that’s an utterly ridiculous claim you’ve made.
I supported Lee Scratch Perry in Cardiff back in 2015. He was a gentleman when I met him :) and his band were ON POINT. Very charming vibes to, and yes this man is spiritual, you feel it in his presence, his eyes know more than he speaks...
I can not believe that there are people who do not like this performance. Lee Scratch Perry is like the Bob Marley of the dub, I mean ... we are referring to a historical and respected musical genre, especially in Jamaica, England, Argentina, etc. As a good lover of dub music, this video takes a little hand up :)
Like the bob markey to DUB??? Bob Marley use to LSP minion, apprentice, once got big he forgot his roots, Rainford even doesn't really like bob since he didn't give anything back by the way Dub in Jamaica means unfinished music!
Actually Bob Marley is Lee Perry's early creation. Scratch is the father of reggae when everyone in jahmayka was doing ska and partying Also the father of Dub years later
Smoked a blunt with this man while he was on stage during his concert in Dallas. He came to me, held my hand and shared my spliff, multiple times. By far one of the greatest nights of my life.
Fantastic, was lucky enough to see him live, he walked on stage with a plastic crown on his head and a huge spliff in his hand and opened with 'King at the controls', what a night, will go to the grave with me.
I bet a lot of you think he is crazy, look how long crazy stays alive, he has to still protect him self from all the wickedness in the world today, u look at him and u don't even realize who he is or where he came from, all you know is he is not like some and he doesn't always speak the language u try to put together, the only sense he needs to make is the one u feel and know cause u could never be who he is no matter how hard u try and u may never see another though there are many greats still around and some not, behold another true and living life.
This man was the pure definition of eccentric. Amazing, intelligent, crazy man. He had nothing but pure benevolent intention for the world, but he was totally nuts. Crazy in the absolute best way.
How powerful! What a blessing to be able to be in the presence of such a soul of shining light like prophet Lee Scratch Perry! Yes I! Let all Jah enemies be scattered!
Lee Scratch Perry simply was created with unique ability in sound composition and lifestyle of speech and singing.Awesome genius man loaded with outstanding intellectual endurance training.Hard to copy his works.Finest work so far.Much appreciation!!!!
Saw him once in miami florida @ dolphin mall in a ross store buying a pair of timberland red boots, he was standing behind me at the checkout line, nobody seems to recognize him that made me doubt, but i asked him nicely sorry sir, are you lee scratch perry? His response was indeed i am young man, do you know me?😊. Respect to the Dub General 🫡🫡
When the Archangel Gabriel welcomed Lee Scratch Perry to the gates of heaven Scratch had only one question before he stepped through and when Gabriel gave him the opportunity to speak he said, Where's my spliff?
King Tubby & Scratch Perry's DUB invented modern music production, remixing, & Djing, plus DUB, ragga, & reggae started Hip Hop (rapping was toasting), Dubstep, D&B, reggaeton, & indirectly, all electronic bass music.
Scratch got the heavenly frequency built in his heart & soul and getting the Arch Angel frequency ship ready to chase all dem bald heads and demons out of this universe back to the hell Dimension! No one mess with Scratch! 🔥🔊⚡️👑⚡️
Lee has some albums with fantastic electronic sound design. Try to listen to his albums after 2010 year. I learnt about him after listening The Orb with Lee scratch perry. I liked it very much.
