Meeting Lee Scratch Perry changed my entire life. I had never experienced a large room full of people drinking hard and not having anyone fighting. Changed my inner vibe that night, never ever looked back. RIP LEE LIFECHANGER PERRY
at lees concert i was in 2019 all the people smoked huge amount of weed, including lee himself, who lighted many big spliffs and passed them to the audience. it was awesome.
The undisputed King of Reggae Dub had a massive influence on me as a young man. Yes, it was late at night in the late 70's and I had been smokin' some very potent green. Sydney radio station JJ 1540 AM were well known for playing experimental and avant garde music. That's where I first heard Lee ' Scratch ' Perry. In June 1980, JJ became JJJ 105.7 FM and the music sounded even better. Superlatives cannot describe or do justice to the man and his contribution to music, art and culture. RIP mate
2019 i was blessed to see him live in berlin toegether with mad professor, which was mindblowing to say the least. at each track he lighted a big spliff and passed it to the audience, which smoked also a lot, so that the whole room was ful of smoke. he was in very good shape and mood and he moved like much younger. a real experience. he was real genius, who toegether with king tubby had a huge influence on music and it's production, which can't be overrated. r.i.p., lee, we miss you, but you will live and inspire through your music for ever. thanx for sharing!
it does not matter...sometimes you don't understand the message even if you understand the words. he was a genius and lived in his own, magical world, where logic was not the most important thing in every case. genius and kind of madness goes hand in hand sometimes. enjoy without thinking to much.
i think we would not understand the meaning, even when understandig the exact words...he lived in his own, unique, some could say crazy, world. that is fine with me. i love just his music, specially from his black ark period, which was pure genius and magic. at the end of this time period he seemed to drift in real madness for some years. others say, that this was played as a kind of performance, who knows? the situation at the black ark got out of control, some parasites and even bad gangs came to such from his money...
Happy birthday Scratch. RIP me brethren.
R.I.P He was a true genius. When I was living in the 70's I knew the Music was an unusual level , but couldn't imagine it would be so influential..
