    EXITING TO WATCH! good old racing! i literally had butterflies in my stomach. NASCAR today isn't as entertaining

      I agree with you I still watch it but it is not near as entertaining as it once was.

    • @Slinger43
      @Slinger43 2 года назад +2

      Totally agree! It's not as exciting today (IMO) for several reasons. The driver's back then were Hero's in people's eyes, brave Men who risked they're very lives just crawling into one of those beast's. In today's Stockcar, it's almost impossible to be killed or even injured in these car's. Competition is the Heart of Stockcar Racing, but Danger is it's SOUL, cut out the Danger & you've cut out it's Soul. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    In 1988, I started following Phil because I worked for a company that supplied Crown and Fast Fare C-stores. This was obviously Phil's best year on the circuit but what I've never understood was, why Phil and Harry Gant's teams were virtually swapped after this year. In 88, with Leo Jackson as engine builder and crew chief, Phil finished 3rd at Daytona, won Talladega, another 3rd at Daytona in July and ended up 8th in the points for the year. Then in 89, they flip teams with Richard Jackson taking over the 55 team and Leo going to the 33. Go take a look at Phil's results and Harry's results during that year, almost identical from the previous year. Phil basically got the shaft in my opinion and he's career never recovered. A class guy who could have been really good, if in the right situation.

    I felt bad for poor Phil Parsons, because if he had beaten any driver not named Allison, it would have been the feel good story of that season, but instead he went and beat the guy everybody at Talladega & in the entire State of Alabama was pullin for! 😖!! Oh well, great job by BP's baby brother anyway 💪

    with 2 to go. Phil drove with his head those last 15 laps. Ok, he was
    damn lucky too, Bobby, Geoff, Ken, and Terry were all race winners

      I think Dale Earnhardt would have wanted to drive for Hendrick. I think he liked to driving for Childress a whole lot better because Childress knew what it was like being a driver and understood what Earnhardt goes through during the race. Earnhardt had a greater appreciation for Childress. But if things worked out with Earnhardt at Hendrick and Gary Nelson as crew chief, no telling how it would turn out.
