    This has been a weird 40th anniversary.
    The Constructicons, G1 Megatron, and most of the things people care about regarding G1 are coming next year instead of on the shows 40th anniversary, there’s been ER levels of distribution without the excuses, and the one game people are exited for was probably shadow cancelled 2 years ago.
    The only thing that’s really felt like a high-effort celebration is TF One and that made no money. The only show is Earthspark, which switched things up in season 2 and lost a good part of the fans who were actually interested in the characters and story. Lots of people have blamed Paramount Pictures for Transformers One’s underperformance at the box office (Despite it becoming number 1 on digital), but I now think Hasbro is to blame here. If they didn’t care about the box office money for Transformers One and just focus on the review scores, they wouldn’t have to stop co-financing movies. That’s why we had three Transformers movies for the past 6 years, and they didn’t seem to care about the box office money for ROTB & Bumblebee.
    I don’t think Hasbro’s no longer making movies, I just think Hasbro’s no longer going to be involved with them. They’re just gonna license them to movie studios so the movie studios could hire a team to work on their own respective Hasbro adapted films.

    • @PerspectiveEnd
      @PerspectiveEnd  Месяц назад +3

      I don't know if that's a fair assumption. Like they did care for those, but those movies did pull in more than the cost of the film and the Marketing. TFone did not. And even still those movies were still considered disappointments because they didn't bring in enough.
      I think Hasbro just got sick of the weak returns that they have to split. But they are throwing out the baby with the bathwater like this.
      And yes thats exactly what this video is about. But if they aren't cofinancing it then, it's down to paramount, who's in worse condition than they are.

  • @TheDaxter11
    @TheDaxter11 Месяц назад +15

    If they wanna go to making smaller movies like Bumblebee, all they have to do is get Travis Knight to make a sequel, ignore Rise of the Mid and treat it like it's own non cannon spinoff, and then *_not get fucking impatient like they did after Bumblebee and actually wait for him to be ready to make a third movie._*
    Having a live action Knightverse and having sequels to TFOne is the best way to go. That and, you know, executing their marketing team and hiring people who are actually competent, like TF Hype Guy.

    • @matthewodonnellgavaghan
      @matthewodonnellgavaghan Месяц назад +3

      I like this idea a lot. I think they have to stop trying to out compete the other cinematic universes, and just focus on making solid movies with dedicated fan bases. Maybe they'll even start making more money with positive word of mouth.
      However, as long as Lorenzo is involved, I don't have much hope. They really need to let him go and get someone competent to be in charge of these movies

    While it looks like we’re hitting a low, this is just because Hasbro doesn’t know how to make movies, which is a bold thing for them to say because a lot of companies that don’t still do. They also didn’t know how to run a TV channel, as evidenced by the series that really took off from The Hub weren’t Transformers Prime or G.I. Joe Renegade (bonus points to anyone who remembers what that is), but My Little Pony and Rescue Bots. Also, they made a Battleship movie and released it the same weekend as The Avengers, probably thinking that the movie that put out other movies to advertise for it would just an experiment.
    Hasbro has been trying to be a media force for longer than they’ve been successful at it, or even that good. This low is just a result of them stepping back from something they had no part in making good. You remember what their big success was last year? Baldur’s Gate 3, a game they licensed to people who knew how to make the game they wanted and did it. The future is never clear, and the way forward sometimes leads to pits, but if this was the death of the company, I’d be surprised.

Personally, I’d love to see a story where a new generation of Cybertronians land on a far future Earth, which incorporates Micromasters and other such small guys by making them all cyborg humans, with them actually standing toe to toe with Cybertronians while not having a situation where normal humans curbstomp advanced aliens that survived an eons long war.
      Or maybe they could pull an old subline like Machine Wars and give it a story, making it so we’re focusing on obscure parts of the franchise, with enough leeway for someone to go completely wild with it.

      @@PerspectiveEnd If I were to reimagine the Transformers brand, I would conceptualize the Transformers as energy-based lifeforms rather than mechanical beings. These energy beings would not have physical forms of their own but would possess and inhabit everyday objects, vehicles, and machines, using them as vessels to interact with the world. By drawing power from the objects they inhabit, they could adapt to various forms, allowing them to transform them into their robot modes and take on new abilities depending on the environment or the needs of the moment. This approach would add a new layer of versatility to the Transformers, as they could shift between objects as needed, blending more seamlessly into human society while still engaging in epic battles. This transformation into energy beings would give the brand a fresh take on identity, as the core of the Transformers would no longer be tied to their mechanical shells, but to the dynamic energy that gives them life.

      You could even raise the stakes by having them essentially fight to defend their home, rather than simply protecting the humans. If it worked for Rhythms Of Darkness, one of the most acclaimed stories by Simon Furman, imagine how that would play out on (dare I say) the big screen.

    At this point I think there are only two things that can save transformers:
    (1) A X-Men '92-styled continuation of the G1 cartoon, where they give that series a proper finale and retcon all the Japanese shit.
    (2) Make Transformers: Reactivate a great game with fun enemies, a unique sandbox, and an online multiplayer mode with unique playlists and game modes. Imagine a Halo-styled Forge mode where you can make your own maps, with classes like Battlefront It could put a unique spin on third-person, over-the-shoulder gameplay and be a really fun and unique game.

    The unfortunate truth of the Transformers movies were simply that they were a product of their time. A hallmark of how far CGI has come since the 90's and the general audience got hooked on the novelty of seeing these hyper realistic robots standing side-by-side with humans.
    And if you know anything about novelty, then you know it gets old really quick. It especially didn't help that Michael Bay and his team continued to make them unsubstantial slop fests with jokes that pandered to teenagers and the lowest common denomiator.
    Age of Extinction was just the most "in-your-face" about it, which 9 times out of 10 is usually what gets people only half paying attention to finally notice they were being played for idiots.
    The failing of Transformers movies NOWADAYS is in part due to that, but also the fact that streaming is just more convenient. And the general public LOVES convenience more than anything.

    • @PerspectiveEnd
      @PerspectiveEnd  Месяц назад +2

      That's a fair point. CGI Spectacle Movies aren't as unique any more.
      I don't even know if they pandered to teenagers, or just Michael Bay, and as a result teenagers liked them.

It had a Beast Wars vibe; trapped on earth alone and in search of rescue/solutions. Especially by the end where it was Bee, WindBlade, Grimlock, and Teletraan X vs the hoard of Cons and that countdown clock. If anything I was super sad S2 kicked off skipping a huge chunk of what happened, including Bee’s voice getting repaired. It’s been such a major plot point in various stories since 2007 that just having it fixed offscreen between seasons felt like a blow. Then again, I guess TFP had the big Bee-voice-healing moment so maybe we didn’t need it again, idk…

      The last Mission Impossible movie didn't do that well either - they spent a hundred million more and made two hundred million less than Fallout.

      @alexholker1309 It still made good money, enough to warrant a sequel and there's already hype for the new one.
      It only under performed because it released next to Barbenhiemer.
      And are we gonna just forget how successful the series has always been just because one didn't do amazing?

    The best thing to come out of one was that people who saw it actually think transformers is cool now
    I’ve got a friend whom i convinced to see it and now he’s begging me to find him more tf media.

    I'm hoping they don't let micheal bay direct again due to the flops, just market the movies better paramount, like I can't blame hasbro for stopping to fund movies, they game almost 25mil+toy making budget to paramount for a good movie that paramount decide to market like a despicable me movie

    This plus how some of the new transformer figures looked , I’m not looking forward to the future of transformers at all. This actually makes me really sad. The only thing I guess I could do is just pray to Primus that it’ll be better somehow.

    Hasbro just need to make another show like Beast Wars that a lot like Beast Wars has good stories, good characters and helps revitalize the brand.

      They really do need to make a show that has a good balance of Drama and levity that isn't just for kids.
      Prime was too one side of Dour, and at the same time never really willing to engage with Stakes.
      And Animated was more in line with where it needed to be, but it's tone was too kiddy to capture a wider audience like it needed too.
      WFC and PWT sucked like head wounds and were too dark again, and ES is once again too much for children with babies first life lesson too often, but is at least decent otherwise.
      A TFOne show would probably be great if they kept the tone and the writing.

    Man... This is all happening since the new CEO came by.
    He comes from Microsoft... He keeps saying why bother with toys and board games.... Kids don't play with those anymore he keeps pushing for video games.
    TF one didn't do well... That's on Paramount, they are the ones in charge on the marketing which was awful. Lorenzo Do Bonaventura, a guy who said an Optimus Prime movie could not be done because there was not enough lore for him...
    But Hasbro insists on keeping them.
    Bad shows and media in the latest years...
    They say they want to shift to videogames... Baldur's Gate 3 did great... Hasbro lays off the whole team who developed it.
    Hasbro is a toy company... They fire John Warden...
    They let the power rangers die... A franchise very easy to make money of. And the screw it with horrible shows and incomplete toys lines...
    Even the Magic and D&D fans are getting affected...
    The list goes on.... What do all this have in common... New CEO, Chris Cocks...
    I leave the rest up to to decide.
    Oh! And the deal they have with Disney and their franchises, like Marvel and Starwars is not Hasbro's fault but Disney's, by making shitty media that alienate it's core fan base!

      I don't think it's all blameable on the New CEO, the old guy made just as many bad decisions, it's just that the new guy didn't start making good ones so they continued to spiral.
      Paramount markets other movies better though, and still hasbro could have done stuff like spend a few thousand to get RUclipsrs to talk about the moive.
      Hasbro doesn't insist on keeping Paramount. It's contractually obligated. They can't switch studios till Paramount fails to make a new movie in time, or they go under.
      The rest of that stuff though is all them. They make Horrible decision after horrible decision.
      Yeah it really feels like Movie Companies just don't know what to do any more so they keep making terrible movies that have such bad word of mouth that no one bothers, then they throw up their hands and go "Well despite the horrible reviews and the low audience satisfaction, we didn't Fuck up. It's just that audiences don't want good things any more."
