Grandline is not the equator This a misunderstanding a lot of fans (even the old ones) have when they see the One Piece map for the first time One Piece's equator goes through East Blue and West Blue and crosses Red Line and Grand Line at their intersection
I don't want to ruin anything, but Morgan is going to be incredibly satisfied with Nami's story. You guys will love all of the characters by the end of the season.
As much as I'd want to share your optimism... Nami was created *in the '90s.* This is not a "new wave" of well written female characters. She's one of the "old school" well written female characters. We're still not out of the "Bossgirl Mary Sue era" of crappily written female characters.
Nami is not a well written character. She has literally no agency in her own story. It all always boils down to "Luffy, solve all of my problems by punching them, please." But that ends up being pretty much all of the female characters because Oda can't write female characters well.
@@transientanus Thats just east blue nami, if you think thats still how she is u aint watching the same series, but also nami is never made to be a fighter. But even then as a child all alone nami got alot of shit done given her circumstances. @@transientanus Every single one of the crew has problems throughout the story they cannot overcome without the help of the others. That does not make them poorly written, that just makes them interdependent. We could make Nami an all encompassing badass who don't need no man, but that only steals from her in the end. If she wasn't at wits end, the story is not as poignant and we really wouldn't care about the character as much. Not saying Oda's perfect, but he can write.

Heads up, it's not the Equator. The One Piece world is on it's Axis, the Grand Line and the Red Line make an X shape crossing the planet. Also, the world is MUCH bigger than Earth. Estimated to be at least the size of Jupiter.
@@anthonycurby4606 It's not a retcon, because anime has a lot of things just wrong and you should never trust anything that is in the anime. It's correctly explained in the manga from the very beginning.
@@anthonycurby4606 I am not watching it, because I think it's pretty bad compared to the manga. Why would I watch a bad adaptation? Also Oda isn't involved really. No idea what gave you that impression.
Nami didn't actually draw the map accurately: the Red Line and the Grand Line are diagonal to the planet's axis, so the Grand Line isn't just the Equator. As far as the Devil Fruit powers go, 'the sea' is officially defined as any container that holds water. The series never directly addresses it, but it seems like the closer it is to the actual ocean, the more powerful the effect. And it stops Devil Fruit Eaters from *activating* their abilities. Some abilities are just permanent effects, like Luffy, who just IS made of rubber now, so he's still rubber underwater, but it does drain his strength and make him physically weak and lethargic. Buggy, on the other hand, wouldn't be able to separate/recombine if he's in the sea, because he has to activate that effect selectively.
You know it's funny that you mentioned targeting Buggy's groin because that was actually a joke they made when they fought him in the manga/anime. In the original version the Chop Chop Fruit had the weakness that Buggy's feet couldn't levitate like the rest of his body so he mainly used the upper half of his body to attack people. At one point while he's attacking Nami that way Luffy starts messing with the lower half of his body, including tickling his feet and, yes, kicking him in the balls.
About Buggy, he uses the clown theme as an effort to try and make his nose seem like it’s just part of the theme. To draw attention away from the nose by wearing clown makeup and make people think it’s a fake nose. But because it’s his *actual* nose, he’s very insecure about it to the point that any mention of the word “nose”(or “knows”) makes him think whoever said it is mocking his nose.
Random Fact: There's an history of real-life pirates raiding slave ships and plantations. They mostly raided the ships for the food and money, not the people. They set the slaves free and/or ask them to join their crew as a free person. Movie Pirates aren't what real life pirates are like.
I mean, the definition of pirate at least on this world is someone who takes to the sea to live outside of the norms of society and oppose to the rules of the world government, that's exactly what luffy is doing so he is a pirate, i think wat he means with "different kind of pirate" is that he doesn't immediately turns to crime for solutions or just for fun, but he isn't opposed to do more pirate like things as i hope you'll see in the second season ^^
For clarification only sea water can null their powers and swimming ability. Otherwise there’d be a lot of stink devil fruit users that don’t bathe lol
Oda-sensei posted a note about this claiming ALL water nulls them, except for running, dripping water such as rain. For baths, as most of the baths in the anime/manga are Japanese onsen-types, only half of their bodies are submerged at any given time. It makes it uncomfortable but not impossible for them to move. There’s a detailed explanation about it but generally all water affects them.😊😊😊😊
That's false. Here's the note from the wiki you can easily google search. "Oda stated in an SBS that Devil Fruit users are susceptible to all types of water, not just seawater. This includes the white sea surrounding Skypiea. However, it should be noted that just being wet is not enough to induce weakness and nullify the user's powers; the same is true for water inside the Devil Fruit user's body, such as water that the user drinks, as seen when Luffy used Water Luffy: he and his powers were not affected in any way by the water in his body or the water covering his fists. Oda elaborated on this, saying that "moving" water, like rain or waves, does not weaken Devil Fruit users, while standing water, like lakes or rivers, does. This was also shown first when Monkey D. Luffy was in the Dance Powder-induced rain and did not feel his power slipping away, and again when on Zou, when the seawater that Zunesha used to shower did not affect him despite being seawater as it was "moving" water."
"The One Piece is the friends we made along the way" Every person that is not familiar with One Piece thinks of the same joke at some point. I think about how in the future, when the One Piece is finally revealed and every newbie gets spoiled, part of the magic that brings reading One Piece blind will be gone forever.
Well you are correct but no one calls them like this. The anime, manga and live action chose this naming because of a certain reason, that would be explained in season 2, also Roger's name you wrote is kinda a spoiler.
Also, the “D.” holds great significance. “The Will of D.” So all One Piece characters with “D.” in their names are descendants of “The Will of D.” (which is still yet to be truly revealed as to who or what it is.)
@@MariaIsabel_Fufuria “Spoiler alert” “Will of D” means those who has D in their name are “defiants of God”(it happens that word defiant start with D also)--“God” means people of Heavenly Celestial Dragon. Now here is a rumor, I don’t know if it’s legit--flip the word “God”, is “DOG”. A total anti of the god. Guess what’s Garp’s hat at very beginning of his appearance?
In one piece world, most of countries form a big organization, World Governments, and it maintains peace and orders of the society. But when one system become so big, it corrupts more or less. People are suffering from that corruption over the years. And thats why there is an other meaning for pirates in OP world-- “To be free” Luffy are one of few “pirates” in one piece follow that concept.
I think the moments Zoro feels "rub off" about Luffy is that he in the beginning doesn't bothered at all about Luffy for the first time but he kinda had a little bit of respect toward Luffy belief and goals.
So it's not the Equator - that's what I thought it's kinda dumb that they changed the map orientation to confuse it. It's the entire world is a dang X and x marks the spot... twice. Of something
Theres tons of Big Bads in One Piece without Devil Fruit Powers (Also Oda the creator of One Piece said the One Piece is something physical and not something metaphorical since he always hated that trope as a kid)
Buggy the Clown 🤡 IS Oda,s Favorite Charakter. So His Design IS from before Millenium 😅 and He has still today in the Manga a 30% Chance to get the title Piraten King. And the strawhat👒 resembles the crone that IS worn by everyone from pesants to (Buddhist)Monks to emperors. And while Monkeys D. Ruffys inherited His hat from shanks , shanks inherited the hat from Gold D. Roger .👒
Comments on this series are pretty insufferable, but this is a property with a lot of history. In anime and manga it's comparable to a mega franchise like Harry Potter, Star Wars, or Lord of the Rings. People are taking a lot of your thoughts and assumptions (which are specifically about the live action) as criticism on this thing that's been a part of their life for as long as they can remember. I'm just glad you guys are having a good time. One thing to keep in mind is a lot of the tropes and stuff you guys are referencing and making assumptions around, One Piece became the most popular long running shonen manga, and second best selling comic world-wide of all time specifically by avoiding and subverting as often as it leans into them. People are kind of unreasonably expecting it to be taken more seriously than it really deserves at this point in the adaptation, forgetting that you guys have no context outside of what's been explicitly shown.
Cowboy Bepop had the same studio and Executive producers…but One Piece had the creator of the anime and manga making all decisions and suggestions along the way.
One Piece‘s showrunners and writing team are completely different which is a big factor as well. Neither Matt Owens nor Steven Mazda were involved in Cowboy Bebop (thankfully).
I don't know what triggered it, maybe a backlash against the "hero" pirates of old movies, but pirates really got a bad rap at some point and the actual history makes it clear that they existed on a wide spectrum. The worst were murderers and rapists, this is true, but the best of them were just men who would attack ships of a certain nation under the employ of their home port through a system called a "letter of marque". They wanted more freedom than sailing as a the member of a navy or a merchantman would bring. They still sunk ships, of course, but so did "upstanding" men of the military. You have to understand that murdering sailors on the ocean would be counterproductive to the kind of crime a pirate ship would commit. A lot of pirate encounters would not even end in a battle. It would be more like a "sea tax". Yes, they were criminals, but in an age were monarchs ruled everything, is it really so evil to not want to be some serf farmer or simple fisherman? Blackbeard was said historically to have never killed a man until the battle leading up to his capture. Personally, if I had to choose to live for a king or serve some army, I would choose crime 100% of the time. I think this is the spirit that Luffy represents, not darker spectrum of piracy, but the freedom to choose a path that is not being offered you.
In one piece world, people can gain super human fighting ability from old fashion training. And they gain the power from devil fruits, also, already strong people can have devil fruits to become even more powerful. Now here comes a little bit spoiler alert-- The most fundamental power in One Piece is an energy flow in every single living things’ body, it’s called “Haki”. It’s like force in starwar. The difference is that every one has it, and it can be trained to get better and stronger. Haki is the only thing that can counter devil fruit power, it doesn’t cancel the DFP like sea water, but it let Haki users be able to land physical contact(such as attack or defense)to DFP users, that evens the battlefield. Shanks doesn’t have devil fruit power, but he has very strong Haki. And he was using one of the most unique type of Haki, “the conqueror”, to suppress that Sea-king(giant monsters in the sea) and drove it away.
The grandline is not the equator. The equator runs diagonally through the map drawn. The equator has had little relevance to the story and more just addects the isands you can find in the blues
Devil fruit eaters lose their physical strength and cant use their powers once they are about knee deep in a body of sea water, showering sea water over them wont rly do anything, cursed by the sea, put on its shitlist. The world of OP is gigantic this isnt explained in the series, its not earth, u could easily fit earth in a small part of just the grandline. In the live action, he can extend individual body parts across an extreme distance but his head has to be near the rest of his body to control it. So he couldn't recover the one body part he used until he got near it and he couldn't free his main body later until he got closer.
They never explained it in the manga or anime, this only came from Oda himself so it's not a spoiler but more of additional knowledge to the lore. The reason why the snails are the main commincation device of the One Piece world is because they have telepathic powers. You'll notice a quick scene where Garp is feeding his snail phone a leaf, that's the One Piece way of recharging a phone.
Sad the telepathic snail phones aren’t real 😔
It's funny because if you google "Pasilalinic-sympathetic compass" people in past actually tried to make it
@@joymallory3405they aren’t produced for merch (they did use real animatronics for the show), but there’s a den den mushi coin bank and plush being sold on netflix’s merch shop lol.
Yall acting like you got Nami's character figured out after 1 episode 🤣🤣 calm yo farm for real lol.
The One Piece is a physical thing and likely ties to the greater mystery of the world. I know you're super used to disappointing stories, but One Piece ain't like that. One Piece uses a trick called "misinformation/disinformation" which is something we all know very well about these days. Just because a character says they know something, doesn't mean they know everything. Luffy saying "Gold Roger left his treasure in One Piece" does not actually mean the One Piece is all his treasure that was left in a single spot. That's just what Luffy thinks. This world has rumours and myths and is filled with half and quarter truth bread crumb trails that slowly reveal the real truth over time
2 context things, they're on a different planet, it's not earth earth. Their planet is the size of the sun. And the snails are psychic. Basically they're cool being used as tools as long as they get fed and aren't getting eaten
19:27 “is that his dad?” On the right track Sean 😂
Its already confirmed that one piece is a real thing by author
the point of shanks saying "it's only an arm" isn't downplayng the severity of his injury, he's saying his arm doesn't matter when compared to luffy's life.
also, jsut to be clear, Shanks doesn't have a devil fruit. We seehim swimming (in the anime at least), whhich is something someone who ate a devil fruit can't do XP Just saying cause it's never directly said and its cooler to theorise what his deal is if he DOESN'T have a deevil fruit, i feel.my apologies if I'm being a stinky tho.
gonna be honest, the way Emil is nitpicking everything is very annoying. bringing down the mood.
which is weird because I’m used to you guys poking fun at things.
I think it’s because he’s the anime/One Piece expert and he’s talking so matter of factly while criticizing the show.
He don’t even know what he’s talking about half the time too 💀
Grandline is not the equator
This a misunderstanding a lot of fans (even the old ones) have when they see the One Piece map for the first time
One Piece's equator goes through East Blue and West Blue and crosses Red Line and Grand Line at their intersection
I don't want to ruin anything, but Morgan is going to be incredibly satisfied with Nami's story. You guys will love all of the characters by the end of the season.
Kenny, bro, I love the editing, you really inject a lot of fun into an already fun channel
As much as I'd want to share your optimism... Nami was created *in the '90s.*
This is not a "new wave" of well written female characters.
She's one of the "old school" well written female characters.
We're still not out of the "Bossgirl Mary Sue era" of crappily written female characters.
Yep. Nothing to be invested in, just cockiness and sucking void where the feminine should be, mirroring their creators.
No one is denying in the manga/anime she is eyecandy and she is a evil character, but she keeps the crews head screwed on, money in their pockets and navigates through the insane weather of the grandline, they would be lost with out her.
@@transientanus
Damn, dude.
Way to miss the whole point.
"you've never seen a piece of shit town before?"
oh she has lol, and that's exactly why she was so frozen
It's a nice touch in retrospect even if it feels flawed on first watch (except to existing fans)
also cowboy bebop was made by the same studio but not the same team. different showrunners, writers, etc. I think the only person they had in common was one executive producer, Marty Adelstein.
Everyone forgets that shanks was swimming no devil fruit user can swim
Nami explains the Grand Line.
Everyone: it's the equator
Nami pointing out where she wrote the north and south blue, west and east blue
"It is not the equator"
Anime did it using Sanji. He even calls it the equator
@@anthonycurby4606Its a physical body of water, separated by named water currents. The equator is just a line on the map.
@@kingofnonation5843 ...so what i pointed out, still actually stands. You didnt address the 'in-universe' explanations from the earlier parts if the show, and instead use knowledge only gained recently to decry all of those just starting the journey
@@anthonycurby4606
I didn't watch the anime, but in the manga Nami explains it on the Island of Rare Animals (before Sanji even appears); and in that scene the grand line clearly goes diagonally and she does not call it the equator.
There's even a compass showing the Red Line going SW-NE.
Heads up, it's not the Equator. The One Piece world is on it's Axis, the Grand Line and the Red Line make an X shape crossing the planet.
Also, the world is MUCH bigger than Earth.
Estimated to be at least the size of Jupiter.
Which actually contradicts an earlier episode, where even Sanji describes it as the equator. Its a recent revelation/pseudo retcon.
@@anthonycurby4606 It's not a retcon, because anime has a lot of things just wrong and you should never trust anything that is in the anime. It's correctly explained in the manga from the very beginning.
@@benediktmathes2528 I shouldn't trust the anime? Why tf am i watching it then. Whg tf are you watching it? Why is oda involved?
Fun show, fun channel, fun reactions, fun editing. Wonderful job guys!
Thank you 🤗
You guys speak of this as if it was the newest thing. One piece has been around way longer than most mangas. So if anything they were copied
It's hilarious watching you guys list off all these tropes and knowing what actually happens.
Old world pseudo-science of a Pasilalinic-sympathetic compass is why snails are used as phones in this world.
Random Fact: There's an history of real-life pirates raiding slave ships and plantations. They mostly raided the ships for the food and money, not the people. They set the slaves free and/or ask them to join their crew as a free person.
Movie Pirates aren't what real life pirates are like.
Pirates even helped us fight the French Jefferson hired them I believe
Luffy is a pirate because he fights the Marines and basically opposes the government in general.
Morgan's gonna be so happy of being so wrong about Nami.
I'm going to start a band just so I can use the name "Detachable Clowns"
For clarification only sea water can null their powers and swimming ability. Otherwise there’d be a lot of stink devil fruit users that don’t bathe lol
Oda-sensei posted a note about this claiming ALL water nulls them, except for running, dripping water such as rain. For baths, as most of the baths in the anime/manga are Japanese onsen-types, only half of their bodies are submerged at any given time. It makes it uncomfortable but not impossible for them to move. There’s a detailed explanation about it but generally all water affects them.😊😊😊😊
That's false, Oda already said otherwise in the SBS.
The One Piece is a real treasure. Oda has confirmed this a long time ago. And he hates the "the treasure is the friends you met along the way" trope.
Water needs to be above the knees to sap their strength
"The One Piece is the friends we made along the way" Every person that is not familiar with One Piece thinks of the same joke at some point. I think about how in the future, when the One Piece is finally revealed and every newbie gets spoiled, part of the magic that brings reading One Piece blind will be gone forever.
Those poor souls , the curse of knowing
Dude says "like" so much you think he gets paid by Webster for every dozen times he says it.

Cue up the CKY y’all
BUGGY time :) easily one of the top performances in the show and a really good cast with Jeff Ward
After viewing other channels I discovered Gold Roger's name is actually Roger D. Gol like Luffy is Luffy D. Monkey. In Japanese first name is last.
That's a spoiler.
Well you are correct but no one calls them like this. The anime, manga and live action chose this naming because of a certain reason, that would be explained in season 2, also Roger's name you wrote is kinda a spoiler.
Most of asian countries are like that, family name come first.
Also, the “D.” holds great significance. “The Will of D.” So all One Piece characters with “D.” in their names are descendants of “The Will of D.” (which is still yet to be truly revealed as to who or what it is.)
@@MariaIsabel_Fufuria
“Spoiler alert”
“Will of D” means those who has D in their name are “defiants of God”(it happens that word defiant start with D also)--“God” means people of Heavenly Celestial Dragon.
Now here is a rumor, I don’t know if it’s legit--flip the word “God”, is “DOG”. A total anti of the god. Guess what’s Garp’s hat at very beginning of his appearance?
It’s not anime rules about the arm. There is stuff about the One Piece world you don’t know yet.
Hopefully you get to find out so I’m not gonna spoil.
This is the last time I'm rewatching this cause now I can't stop thinking about "Do the Roar!" 🤣
THE ONE PIECE IS REAL!
In one piece world, most of countries form a big organization, World Governments, and it maintains peace and orders of the society. But when one system become so big, it corrupts more or less.
People are suffering from that corruption over the years.
And thats why there is an other meaning for pirates in OP world--
“To be free”
Luffy are one of few “pirates” in one piece follow that concept.
They did cut Buggy’s backstory from the live action show, it’s still in the anime though obviously.
The Grand Line is actually not on the equator, even though it's easy to assume that.
I think the moments Zoro feels "rub off" about Luffy is that he in the beginning doesn't bothered at all about Luffy for the first time but he kinda had a little bit of respect toward Luffy belief and goals.
Cant wait till they see projerctor n security system Den Den Mushi (snails)
great reaction!! just to add some perspective. this ocean planet is the size of our sun. (roughly) thats how vast it is
15:33 you're so real for that 😂
So it's not the Equator - that's what I thought it's kinda dumb that they changed the map orientation to confuse it. It's the entire world is a dang X and x marks the spot... twice. Of something
Theres tons of Big Bads in One Piece without Devil Fruit Powers (Also Oda the creator of One Piece said the One Piece is something physical and not something metaphorical since he always hated that trope as a kid)
In this show too they take the idea for a pirate as its simplest definition. A sailor w complete freedom who tells the govt to go fk itself
The jolly rancher got it's name from the creators wanting to suggest friendly, western company in a candy.
Onepiece Anime is 20+ years now. haha
I think the cartoon shows more about how Zoro starts liking him
Buggy the Clown 🤡 IS Oda,s Favorite Charakter.
Roger .👒
Well I can assure you One Piece is actually a physical thing...
The snails are "shell phones", it's a silly joke that the show fully commits to.
To be fair, I don’t think people expect much, but at least to listen and pay attention and not talk all the way through most of the lines…
Even today Luffy and shanks have Not meet again even after 1080 Episodes and 1095 Manga chapters
Luffy has something else he means when he says pirate, but that's about 4-5 seasons out
Cowboy Bepop had the same studio and Executive producers…but One Piece had the creator of the anime and manga making all decisions and suggestions along the way.
One Piece‘s showrunners and writing team are completely different which is a big factor as well. Neither Matt Owens nor Steven Mazda were involved in Cowboy Bebop (thankfully).
I respect Emils opinion but boyyyy I would never put one piece in the same light as Joel shoemackers batman and Robin . Bleh lol
You’ll understand later why Naomi got so mad about the town.
It is the same studio that did LA bebop but not the same team of people.
You'll find out why Nami reacted the way she did to the destroyed town.
Great opening critique on nami, and I one really want y’all to keep in mind as the story goes on and reflect on across it! Great points made
18:30 can't use a landline when you're at sea, you gotta use a shell phone
you are not gonna be calling nami a flat character by the end of the season
In one piece world, people can gain super human fighting ability from old fashion training.
And they gain the power from devil fruits, also, already strong people can have devil fruits to become even more powerful.
Now here comes a little bit spoiler alert--
The most fundamental power in One Piece is an energy flow in every single living things’ body, it’s called “Haki”.
Shanks is one of the strongest people in this world
Inaki(luffy) has an accent cause the actor is mexican. u can hear it when they do promotions
The grandline is not the equator. The equator runs diagonally through the map drawn. The equator has had little relevance to the story and more just addects the isands you can find in the blues
Grand line is not the equator
Devil fruit eaters lose their physical strength and cant use their powers once they are about knee deep in a body of sea water, showering sea water over them wont rly do anything, cursed by the sea, put on its shitlist.
The world of OP is gigantic this isnt explained in the series, its not earth, u could easily fit earth in a small part of just the grandline. The author has said Buggy used to harass crew members with his flouting shlong and that luffy's shlong can stretch as much as u want.
Nami is a good bit different in the Anime, keep that in mind
You guys talked a lot damn it
Almost as much as yall preen
