    I really love the show when it's about a bass! I am so glad that I have an exposed truss rod on my home assembled jazz. The neck does seem to be needing adjustment fairly often and it sure is a lot easier if it's playable when I adjust it to get it just right. I notice the string tension feel gets just beautiful as I reach the right height, so I don't measure with a ruler. The bass just seems to come alive.

      I have a 1990 but it’s two tone sunburst with white pickguard that I bought about 6 years ago. Earlier I had a butterscotch one with black pickguard that I bought new and later sold but can’t remember the approximate time I bought it, maybe late ‘90’s. On the one I had now I replaced the stock metal saddles with fiber ones made to replicate the original ones; have it set up with flats and absolutely love it.

    Loved to see you work on "my" bass. I have 2006 in the gig bag, it's my play out favorite. I've sacrificed some vintage vibe to make it a little more user friendly: I filed a tapered slot into the pickguard that allows neck adjustment without removing the neck, the slot is black and doesn't show, I switched the bridge to a Badass that I had on hand and replaced the jack with an Electrosocket. The flats will never come off unless they break.

    Thank you Dave. We needed one of these videos really bad. I played one of those exact models late last year, early this year. It was a pre-owned one at a Guitar Center in the Los Angeles area and instantly fell in love with it. My only complaint though is that Truss Rod design requires the tech to take off the neck which drives me up a wall knowing those screw holes are being eroded over and over again when it is setup. It would be nice if they could one of those wheels on the truss rod to be able to directly adjust it.
    There are some really great aftermarket pickups for it too if you want to humbucker the sound which on that particular model imho sounds really good. Unfortunately, money was and is still super tight, so couldn't do it. Sorry for the ramble, keep them coming Dave we appreciate it.

    What happened to the Dave "Guideline" we heard so often that the saddles have to be parallel to the body, ie not canted? Logic dictates that with a radiused neck, the inner strings will need to be set higher to follow the curve, as is the case here.

      @@jimbucket2996 did a bit of searching and some info does come up. “Made in” is definitely Fuji-gen up to 1996 when the contract was switched over to Tokai from 97 - 2007. Where there is some confusion is another maker Dyna Gakki also made some for Fender from 1992 and these were also stamped “Crafted” which is also what is stamped on all the Tokai built.

    I'm also missing my old screenname, WannaBeatle on here (I got a permanent ban from Google a couple weeks ago for replying to a right-wing nut/bot on a youtube vid and you CAN'T fight it, either even though I got the ban and the other person didn't).

    I've never seen this version of a p bass but I guess it works. I have a 78 black pass with rosewood fretboard. I bought it only to teach our bass player his parts as I was lead guitarist playing les Paul's. Fender should be shot for having to take neck off to adjust neck. Stupid design to say the least. Course it's a fender where stupid is as stupid does

    • @jimbucket2996
      @jimbucket2996 2 года назад

      And a les Paul doesn't have stupid features? I pity the fools who put up with the discomfort because they think they are cool. Your opinion sucks.

    • @vayabroder729

      This is the first iteration of the P Bass which came out in 1951. When Fender changed the design to the better known P Bass with the hum cancelling pickups in 1957, this design was retired until 1968 when it was rechristened Telecaster Bass; around ‘72 it went to a humbucker pickup and later was discontinued. Fender Japan brought the reissue back around 1990 until the 2000’s. Now the Custom Shop sells their version for about $4K or you can get a Squier Classic Vibe Series for a whole lot less. I believe the Fender Japan versions are no longer available.
