There’s good reason for why Leo chopped in two the initial single coil P pickup by 1957. It was time for change and not only did this groundbreaking idea cancel out the extraneous noise - it increased output power and changed entirely the voice of his beloved Precious Precision Bass. I know that Lindy, Seymour and a dozen other PU makers produce twin coil-single coil pickups these days but to my ears the late seventies P here totally has the edge - and lead over the plank-bodied, distinguished old gentleman. My money is on the ‘77 P. Fantastic and fun playing there my man. Bravo!
You’re welcome of course my friend. Playing such as yours here comes from (I surmise) lots of practice, probably some early training and lots of gigs. I’ve never heard of Blues in G progression sound like so much fun! If anything else we stand to learn a lot from your technique. It just reeks of fun fun fun - which is what it should be otherwise there’s no point, right? Excellent post!
and the '51 sounds awesome too, I had a '78 so I rememeber those great tones. Both excellent players, hope to get to your level one day. :D@@pinckneycustomshop
I can’t really tell from this. They’re both running through my DAW, so if there’s a volume difference, it’s in the mix that way. Thanks for your comment.

Great video and amazing bass!
Thanks so much!!
The 51 Sounds better for me but the 77 Sounds louder righ? More gain in the pick up? More Electronic output?

The 77 sounds sublime!!! Which flats are on it?
Thanks for your comment! They’re DR Legend flatwounds.
strange, DR legend doesn’t have red silk… they have gold/yellow silk.
considering the silk length, they look like Thomastik JF344 or LaBella 760FL
Papas rockin' that funky music jam like damn!
Thanks so much!!
First time on this site. Twin bass playing brothers?
Na, just movie magic 🪄😁 Thanks for joining us!
@@pinckneycustomshop Doh!
Both you ol' bastards sure know some cool bass licks! 🤣🤣
@@rogerbranton1752 😆thanks for the from both of us 😁
What is better than JD on bass? I wouldn't have believed anything could be -- if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes
You are way too kind 😁🙏
how’s the neck on that 51 compared to the regular P?
It’s just a bit chunkier. Otherwise, pretty similar.
awesome
Thanks!!
Please pardon my absolute ignorance; are you both twins? Or, is this SFX?
Just some silly video editing.😁
