      I'm thinking of trading for one. How does it compare to P, or J basses?

    • @Painless50
      @Painless50 3 года назад

      @@Jimmy_Jim_Jim_1234 , can't compare to a Jazz bass, apples and oranges. Jazz has a completely different tone and the neck is much thinner. Compared to other P basses, it has a thicker neck and the tone from the soap bar pickup is rather different. It's something you will have to hear for yourself. Personally I like the 59 splitbar on the Mike Dirt bass. It too has a thick C neck. If you're thinking of trading for a Sting bass, go play it. At first I wasn't sure about the thick C neck, but now I have 3 basses that have it and love them all.

    I had the Japanese 51 P Bass reissues. Identical except for the body carve and Sting signature. Noisy, undefined tone, weighed a ton and had a baseball bat neck. Typical Japanese build quality thou.
    I still remember watching an interview with John Entwistle who had one of the very first P basses. The interviewer asked him how it played. He replied along the lines of “ It’s a plank”.

    • @nev375
      @nev375 5 лет назад

      @@onpsxmember I think this is caused by string cores stretching unevenly along their length. If you check intonation at each fret you just get results that don't make any sense, Fresh strings usually fixes it.

    • @onpsxmember
      @onpsxmember 5 лет назад

      @@nev375
      Sure, you need new and stretched strings to adjust intonation. No argument there.
      If you can tune to pitch and it stays there after the stretching, there is the same tension between the two resting points (nut and bridge). Why do you think that the core has different tension along it's length?

    • @nev375
      @nev375 5 лет назад

      @@onpsxmember Strings work similar to springs. As you put tension on them they elongate. Like a spring if you tension it beyond its moment of elasticity, but not enough to break it, it will deform and not be able to return to its original shape. The area of the string (or spring) that is weakest on a molecular level will be the section to permanently elongate thereby leaving more mass on one end rather than the other.

    Gooch-A-Rama!!! And on another note, it seems insane to me that Fender still makes production models with a truss rod adjustment at the bottom of the neck. What an unnecessary pain in the ass for anyone looking to do a simple relief adjustment that should take about 30 seconds.

    • @matthewmp111

    • @c.a.t.732
      @c.a.t.732 5 лет назад +3

      @Dagwood Dogwood The difference between three little screws on a truss-rod cover and four wood screws to be removed (after the strings have been loosened) to remove the neck, adjust the rod, re-attach the neck, re-tune the strings and possibly repeat if that didn't do the trick... hardly comparable. A better analogy than your Corvette one would be the story told of a certain year/model Mercury Cougar which, in order to replace those last spark-plugs in the back required the engine to be removed.

    • @c.a.t.732
      @c.a.t.732 5 лет назад +2

      @Dagwood Dogwood You missed my point entirely. Having to block-and-tackle remove the entire engine just to get to the back plugs is a bad design, irrelevant of how "classic" the car was. You seem to be so intent on sneering you're not paying attention to what people are saying... too bad.

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 5 лет назад +1

      It's not insane if that's the vintage repro spec like this early PB style model, it's actually very sane marketing for FMIC and for Warmoth. Almost everything on early Fender instruments has been improved on from an engineering standpoint, down to the shitty stamped bridge saddles and tuners and the neck pocket having no angle so 99% you have to shim the neck to get a proper setup. Just buy a modern model instrument FFS, only hundreds to choose from.

  • @ChrisDavis1975
