I remember watching the Tati thing and being confused as to why she was so upset at the competitor thing. I can see how sex jokes can make people uncomfortable but the sponsorship stuff just felt like something personal that 2 friends could talk about if it really bothered them? Idk why it was such a huge deal, especially considering that this is between a teen and a grown woman who's established in the industry already.

His prior reputation as greedy/materialistic worked in favour for Tatis narrative.
I only watched this drama from afar when it was going down, but Tati is so much more of a villain than I realized back when "Bye Sister" was released. Looking back, it is actually crazy that Dramageddon revolved around a 19 year old and his 37 year old friend. James is awful, but when it comes to Dramageddon, I really have to wonder why adults like Jeffrey, Tati and Shane were so involved in this teenagers life. I mean, it's pretty obvious that she started to see herself as his second mother/big sister type figure, so I don't think her emotions came from a place of wanting to blast him far and wide, I think it's pretty clear that it came from a place of like, "Son, I'm so disappointed in you! I raised you better than this!" combined with genuine betrayal.
Like, yes, she absolutely overreacted, and maybe she felt more maternally towards James than the situation warranted, but it's disingenuous to frame it as a 37 year old woman attacking a teenager over stupid vitamins. It was more like a woman seeing a young man as her surrogate son and protege acting a fool and then betraying her in what felt like a really personal way in the moment, and putting out a video in order to get him back on the straight and narrow.
And, as pointed out earlier, at the time he was a legal adult, so using the term "teenager" is also a little misleading.

for context of why people jumped to hating james after “bye sister”: tati was like the beauty guru older sister/mom. she was seen as a lot more mature and intelligent than other, messier beauty influencers. she emphasized that she was honest and in tune with the beauty industry. it’s not surprising that so many young people bought the words of an older person they trusted for years.
adding that it was pretty well known by that point that james had faked his viral school photos that first gained him popularity so, to the audience, his character was already in question.

His prior reputation as greedy/materialistic worked in favour for Tatis narrative.
I only watched this drama from afar when it was going down, but Tati is so much more of a villain than I realized back when "Bye Sister" was released. Looking back, it is actually crazy that Dramageddon revolved around a 19 year old and his 37 year old friend. James is awful, but when it comes to Dramageddon, I really have to wonder why adults like Jeffrey, Tati and Shane were so involved in this teenagers life. They're all bad, but back then Tati was treated like she had done no harm and people irrevocably took her side. You're right when you say 'mass hysteria' because I didn't even question it back then. The internet really has a scary mob mentally and it's wild to think back on it in retrospect.

Two things:
1. The Tati/James dynamic was weird to say the least. With the age gap and him calling her his "mum". What business has a woman in her 30s hanging out with 18-19 year olds.
2. If my company was threatened by one Instagram stories ad from a competitor I would do a serious business review.
I like Tati for the most part but watching that all go down I was like “lady. This is an adequate response if you’re 16”. You’re a 30 something old business owner. This is such a good point! Tati should have focused on the fact that James was sexually harassing someone who was at work and couldn't leave the situation, which is an awful thing to do. But instead she hyper-fixated on that person being straight, as if James trying to get with a straight person was the problem, not the blatant workplace harassment.
