This is cool to watch...I live in Twickenham just up the road. One thing that's worth remembering is that Richmond was at the heart of the London music scene, especially during the 60s. You had the Crawdaddy Club right opposite Richmond station where The Rolling Stones and the Yardbirds played... who's members included Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck, and then a mile or so up the Thames in Twickenham you had the Eel Pie Island venue who would have had Rod Stewart, the Stones and The Who as regular acts to see... amongst many many other famous bands like..Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Hawkwind ...the list goes on and on. It's a lovely part of town.. if you have enough money.

I used to teach at a school in Richmond, right next to Richmond Park. I was tested here as most children in Richmond go to `private fee paying schools' so my school took many less well off children, but it was a happy school and I often used to walk passed Sir David Attenborough going the other way on his way to the railway station. He lived near the school and still does. His Brother, the film director, Sir Richard Attenborough, lived next to the `Green' featured in the video. I had a studio flat near the river, and we were woken by the Police one night as the river flooded very badly and we had to leave.I had to find lodgings further away, as I could not afford the rent. Mick Jagger has a house on the hill near the river, and there is a huge hospital at the top of the hill run by the British Legion who are responsible for all the red poppies we see on remembrance day, and this hospital is for injured military and blind soldiers. My stay at the Richmond school was from 1977-1986. I often saw many well known actors walking around, most live in nearby Twickenham, home of our national Rugby team.

That British Legion owned home for retired ex service personnel was sold to property developers. Obviously, being in a prime spot overlooking the river, it has been transformed into luxury apartments, only the rich being able to afford to live there. At least they have kept the beautiful building intact, rather than knocking it down and erecting some modern monstrosity.

I'm from a neighbouring town and used to run in Richmond Park which unfortunately wasn't featured in this video. My run would typically end at the gates of the beautiful Isabella Plantation inside the royal park where I would rest, warm down and walk around and generally soak in the serenity before going home.
A few years ago I was once stunned when Sir David Attenborough came and sat on my bench and I had a lovely conversation with our national treasure and "surrogate grandfather" of the nation before he and his daughter continued on with their walk.
I later found out he lives in Richmond and many people probably had the very same cherished memory of meeting him and his daughter on one of their walks.

I live about 4 miles from Richmond (sorry no spare room until I can get my adult kids to move out), and often walk there on the path beside the River Crane, which joins The Thames near to Richmond Lock.
The best view in Richmond is the protected one from Richmond Hill, but I also very fond of the area around Richmond Lock foot bridge and the Old Deer Park nearby.
A short distance from the top of Richmond Hill is Richmond Park, which also has a protected view all the way from the hill top across London to St. Paul's.
Between Richmond Park and The Thames is another favourite area of mine, Petersham Meadows leading through to Ham Lands and Ham House, also worth a visit.
I could go on and on, but better if you watched some more videos like the one David Attenborough (who I believe lives in Richmond) made about Richmond Park.

Putney! I lived there from 1962-1970-ish. It was a lovely, quiet and leafy place then, and the river and Putney Common were our playgrounds as kids. Mum bought our house in Earldom Road for £5500 in '62. You wouldn't believe how much it sold for in 2002! Fond memories of quieter, more civilised times. We still had a rag and bone man with his horse and cart, a fellow with an ancient van and a grinding wheel in the back who would sharpen your kitchen knives, a newspaper seller yelling 'Standard!!' walking up our road of an evening, to the tune of a goods train, rumbling through the cutting behind Clarendon Drive... excuse the nostalgic rambling.

Richmond is a lovely place and it is a pity the video didn’t cover Richmond Park and the deer there. Richmond is one of the most expensive places to buy property in the whole of the UK, a number of famous people live there, including one of my heroes, Sir David Attenborough.
My wife used to be a manager of a bookstore in Croydon which is another suburb of London about 15 miles from Richmond. About 20 years ago she had to arrange a book signing session with David in her store and she was given a number to call thinking it was his PA, publisher, manager as is normally the case, but it was David’s home number and he picked up the phone himself and simply said “Attenborough”. After recovering from the shock she asked him if he had any particular requirements and could she could reserve a parking space in the public car park for his car. He said there was no need as he was going to cycle there but could he park his bike in the store? And has for food he was happy with a sandwich and coffee. This bike ride would involve riding a distance of 15 miles through heavy south London traffic in the middle of the day and he was well over 70 at the time. The phrase “living legend” is overused but in David’s case it it true. A very humble man who will be dearly missed by the whole country when he departs this life.

My third son, his hubby and their two boys live just 4 km from Richmond. By far our favourite place in this borough is the Royal Park. Richmond Park is the largest urban park in Europe, at 2500 acres. I rode there as a schoolboy, and my grandsons learned to ride there too. Red and fallow deer have been roaming this park for 400 years. Voles, foxes, rabbits, hare, and about 150 species of birds share the space too. You'd love it. My grandsons love the "flutterbies", and try to spot at least half of the 30 park species.

Ladies. I never even heard of Ted Lasso, & don't even know what that is, but I have seen Richmond. Richmond London is very nice, but now you should look at the original Richmond in Yorkshire, which is another thing altogether. Richmond, London is named for the Palace of the medieval Dukes of Richmond, but those Dukes were named from the Yorkshire place, which is deep in beautiful countryside. It is dominated by a great castle, but also has remains of several religious institutions. In the centre of the town is a great cobbled market place, where every evening an ancient cow horn 'trumpet' is sounded to mark the end of the day. It also contains the Green Howards army museum, for that most famous Yorkshire Regiment, with a display of the many Victoria Cross medals won. The area was granted to Alan of Brittany by William the conqueror , to the leader of the Bretons who played a major part in his victory at Hastings. These Bretons considered they were taking the country 'back' from the Anglo Saxons, who had forced them out in the 5th century, that was some 600 years before. Brittany was named so after many Britons 'fled' there when the A Saxons moved across southern England , but they also aided the last 'Romans in France to resist the Frankish forces there.
Oh & ladies the Yorkshire Richmond is just as 'posh', in a different way, & a lot more affordable than the place near London.

The view from Richmond Hill across the Thames is stunning, and was famously painted by renowned artist JW Turner.
I used to live in the London Borough of Richmond (in Twickenham) in the 1990s and 2000s and know it well, so I would pass through daily on my commute into London and shop/socialise and be in Richmond most weekends. I would often have lunch at the Princes Head pub pre-Ted Lasso. I live further out in Surrey (on those hills you see in the distance when showing the view across the Thames), but it's only a 30 mins drive, and I visit regularly.
What the video didn't show is Richmond Park, which you access from the top of Richmond Hill - an extensive 2,500 ancient park estate that contains deer and is part of the Crown (Monarchs) estate. I would happily offer you a chance to stay if I lived there still, but willing to act as a guide and show you around when you visit.
P.S. Dara's videos are great, I've watched and commented on a few. It's a nice snapshot of RIchmond she showed there. BTW Wagamamma is a chain Japanese noodle/ramen restaurant across the UK and is very popular.

I am from the original Richmond, the one in North Yorkshire that all the others are named after either directly or indirectly.
The name comes from the Norman French "Riche-Mont" meaning "Strong Hill" upon which a castle was built. Richmond is the most common place name in the english speaking world.

So she films herself outside of Richmond Station going on about Richmond but if she turned the camera around she could've shown the pub where The Rolling Stones first started as a band performing! There used to be a small stage (really a raised platform of a couple of inches!) in the back where bands played. All the Rolling Stones hail from Richmond upon Thames. Also while filming on the Green they could have shown Richmond Theatre which is preserved Victorian Theatre. It still shows plays and is a delight inside. It has been used numerous times in films when they require an authentic Victorian theatre.

@@MagentaOtterTravels When I first knew it, it was a real 'spit & sawdust' type of place! Dark wood stained by years of tobacco smoke. Now it is some fancy gastronome type of pub. A lot of my favourite watering holes in Richmond have gone that way! The Britannia, which is in one of the side alleys connecting to The Green has gone that way as well. Never drank too much in the Duke's Head but I do remember going in there with some friends before going to see The Rocky Horror Show at Richmond Theatre. Upon entering we were presented with a over 6ft. bearded guy wearing red stiletto's and a red dress with a slit up the side drinking a pint of ale! He did have a blonde wig on as well! Getting in the mood for the Rocky Horror Picture Show!
Richmond is also the home of the Poppy factory, the Dimbleby family of news broadcasting fame. Richard Dimbleby was famous for his broadcasts during WWII. He broadcast from a Lancaster during a bomber raid and also broadcast on the horrors of Belsen Concentration camp. He was aware that people may not believe it in the future so he insisted on long sweeping panorama film be taken to ensure the veracity of the shots could not be doubted.
