    Elixer is actually an amazing late game card. Since your deck isnt diluted with lands anymore, you're most likely getting all your better cards back and that 5 life can be a big deal.

    The expansion symbol (which is on the right above the textbox and below the picture) is black on commons, silver on uncommons, gold on rares, and a weird red on mythic rares.

    Ok, let me give you few hints about playing limited formats (they're not my idea, its nuts and bolts of the game).
    The correct ratio of lands to spells in 40 card deck is 17 lands to 23 spells.
    You need lands to cast spells, so in two undesired scenarios, you prefer to be mana flooded than mana screwed. While you're mana flooded you're still improving your board state, so when you draw a spell you can cast it. When you don't draw enough lands you do nothing but fall behind more and more.

  • @iberales
    @iberales 11 лет назад

    Out of usual 8 non-creature spells you should prioritize creature removal.
    Creatures win the games and removal helps you to deal with opponents creatures. They often can cost your opponent two cards as they kill creature with an aura on it or creature that opponent is casting combat trick on (like Giant Growth).
    Combat tricks play similar role to removal but they're more conditional as they need creatures to work. This means you don't include tricks before 15 creatures and decent removal spells.

    Lol I can remember spending something like 12$ each for four Ivory Gargoyles in the late 90's for my artifact deck when I used to play Magic. Spending money on a game I truly enjoy has never been a hard thing for me to do. Dual lands alone cost me 20$ a piece for my red-black deck, thats 20 lands X 20 dollars not to mention the other cards.

  • @TheStigma

    you can re-make the deck from the pool of cards as much as you want (and add to it with the 3 extra boosters you can unlock in sealed campaign), but once all possible boosters are unlocked for your pool of cards then that is set in stone and you can't reset the slot in any way. If you aren't satisfied with your pool of cards or the slot you either have to make do or buy another for (i think) 2 USD. I believe you have 2 slots to start with just for buying the game.

  • @elRandomTk
    @elRandomTk 11 лет назад

    You just have to beat them, in the campaign mode you have a series of circles (the actual campaign encounters) and a planeswalker circle in the bottom right, one for each plane. You click a couple times on the deck you want, first to unlock it then to play against it, win and you get the deck :)

  • @cryionic
    @cryionic 11 лет назад

    Kind of agree about black. Especially when you pair it with white. Seems to be the op color combination.

  • @elRandomTk
    @elRandomTk 11 лет назад

    just FYI the card says "it must be blocked", but not by all creatures, 1 creature block is viable.

  • @justinlo3712
    @justinlo3712 11 лет назад

    If you have good cards split up between three different colours i would say go for it. Three colours however can be really risky, so it is probably safer to main two colours then splash a third that has cards you want for your deck. If you have really good creatures and bombs and no removal, with four rampants I would say its fine

  • @testthewest123
    @testthewest123 11 лет назад

    Furthermore: An important aspect is: Every card you play must actually do something relevant.
    A 1/1 most of the time is not worth the card. The Elixir of immortality is also a straight loss of card advantage. Imagine your opponent just draw one creature, while you draw the elixir: you gain 5 life, which your opponent will quickly bring down with his creature. Your effect is undone, while he still has a permanent on the table.

    While it does taste bad to some, this is representative of Sealed play in paper Magic. It's not just a greed thing, there is no "re-rolling" until you get the best possible pool.
    Also, a good TCG will necessarily cost a fair bit to build tournament competitive decks. Secondary market prices are driven by consumer demand, which largely comes from what is most effective in the current competitive environment.

  • @iberales
    @iberales 11 лет назад

    For more basic knowledge about deck composition google "mtg BREAD" (or BREAK). They'll refer mostly to "drafting" (other and more fun limited format) but its equally relevant to choosing cards from your sealed pool.
    If you want to glimpse into more deep analysis of MTG, check out Limited Resources - best limited podcast there is. One of the recent episodes (#189) is about getting good mana base, there you can get for example detailed explanation why 17 is the best number of lands.

  • @josezapatos77

    Randomness of the packs means hyper aggro decks with low curves are less possible. Hence you go midrange.

  • @benjohncarlso
    @benjohncarlso 11 лет назад

    agree 100%. I wish we could play sealed 2 headed giant. Also I have a blue black deck with tons of removal which is OP in sealed play which is almost 100% creature based.

  • @iberales
    @iberales 11 лет назад

    Out of 23 Spells in your deck around 15 should be creatures The more creatures you have the better they are, as you can use them for double blocking or just dealing damage while other creatures being blocked
    Creature is good when its power+toughness is equal to its casting cost (2/2 for 2, 4/4 for 4). Other good creatures are creatures with evasion (flying of otherwise unblockable)
    Creatures costing 2 mana are almost always useful. Avoid creatures costing 1 mana as they rarely have enough impact

  • @briandiep1338
    @briandiep1338 11 лет назад

    Bigger pools means more cards to pick from, not more packs. So there should be less Assassinates/Murders/Nighthawks. Also, a bigger pool would allow the other colours to get on fair ground.

    I love the idea of the sealed deck play and constructing your own deck, but right now the sealed selection of cards seems to contain waaay to little variation. There also seems to be poor balance between colors. Out of the dozens of decks I've seen constructed so far nearly all of them have been black/green or black/red. Other combinations seem to almost be an oddity or something people "force" to make work because they don't want to play the exact same cards everyone else is.

  • @FMGHarlequin
    @FMGHarlequin 11 лет назад

    Here's what I woulda built with your starting pool. Just focus on a really agressive 3 color deck.
    2 Rampant Growth
    2 Souls
    2 Rats
    2 Recluse
    2 Sliver
    2 Boar
    1 Griffon Sentinel
    1 Bat
    1 Crumbling Col
    1 Demon
    1 Serra's
    1 Angelic Arbitor
    1 Effigy
    2 Passify
    1 Assasinate
    1 Murder
    1 Giant Growth
    6 Forest [GGGGG GGGG]
    5 Swamps [BBBBB BB]
    5 Plains [WWWWW W]
    As others have said, I'd leave the tutors out because you should focus on Racing them. Same goes for Elixir.

  • @x1PMac1x
    @x1PMac1x 10 лет назад

    You don't need to drop lands. On Planeswalker difficulty, the AI screws with your deck. It will land flood you when you don't need it, and it will land starve you when you do. I have used all 20 some-odd slots, and it has been the same for everyone. You just need to expect it, even though it is the most frustrating thing ever. Real life shuffling is MUCH friendlier.

  • @SympatheticMonster
    @SympatheticMonster 11 лет назад

    However the elixir also stuffs your graveyard into the library, which can be insane if you have a lot of cards that are extremely important. I had a situation couple of times where my key creature got murdered only to use elixir to shuffle it back into library and pull out from the library with demonic tutor on the very same turn getting back my 5/5 blocker and indestructible death touch (that combo is insane). And you underestimate that 5 life boy, oh you underestimate it so much.

  • @MNeilGri

    With sealed deck, could you have switched colours? Say, after the first match, you decided you wanted to go black/red instead, could you have just rebuilt your deck, or do you get locked into the deck you built?

  • @MasterMojo85

    Got no problem with purchasing extra slots for sealed play. Mtg 2014 is so cheap with its 10 bucks, that I'm willibg to give them more money for this great and entertaining game.

  • @5allum

  • @josezapatos77
    @josezapatos77 11 лет назад

    4/4 for 4mana good for sealed. Force, dont avoid the big creatures. You need some in your deck for better offense/defense. Thats why you use 15+ lands. Drawing lands isnt so bad when you get to put big creatures in play.

  • @mtgxerxes
    @mtgxerxes 11 лет назад

    It's not that bad. With such a small deck you can easily go through a couple spells, a couple terramorphic expanse, and then draw them back in addition to gaining 5 life. Get your removed creatures back, and so forth.

    I wouldn't suggest any less then 15 lands or any more than 18 lands depending on your mana curve or the amount of colors and double or triple single color casting cost cards.

  • @Rex1987

    i think that sealed play is cool but it would be even better if you had a in game currency to buy more cards like scrolls do. The great thing about magic cards is building your own deck which you can only partly do in sealed play. If they added more freedom to the make your own deck it would have been that much more cooler.

    it depends I play black and white with 3 elixir of immortality. destroy all, murder, damage prevention and exile for spells, 3/1 and 3/3 flyers (white) discard rats, deathtouch scorpions, roc egg and nighthawk. with some fillers. so basically I can keep cycling and gaining life while I destory all your creatures. Longest game I had all my mana was out and I was just drawing cards and cycling my graveyard ftw

    I wish you could play your Sealed decks alongside the 10 constructed decks in the game...
    Anyways, Sealed really needs more cards. The 150-card pool is way too small (the pool should be 200-300 cards at least). Also, black seriously needs to be nerfed. Assassination, Vampire Nighthawk, and Murder are just ridiculous in this format.

    Your initial build you made needs a looooooot of work. That first extra booster for you was huge in giving you some tools.
    That X3BB tutor card is kind of bad. 6 land for Demonic Tutor? Better off playing a large creature, to which you only really have Rune Scarred as a threat. Everything else is 1-2 power. You've got some heavy green you should insert, especially if you want to use the triple rampant growth.
    Your white is better than you think too, don't get tunnel vision on Golgori colors.

    Hey Force, you chose black for those "search your library for" cards. I don't think that's a great idea. In sealed play you have very few rare cards wich totally change the game flow. Those cards are GREAT in the usual format, but for sealed, if you pick them, then you have no great cards to get in your deck.

  • @gandalfgrey5

    i was actually really disappointed with the sealed play aspect since you only get to play with (for free) 2 decks. me and some of my friends tried to do a sealed deck tournament with it and that was fun. problem is we can only do that so many times. i was really hoping for something like a sealed tournament style mode where you need a certain amount players, they all open 6 packs, build decks, and play a basic tournament, then the cards disappear from the account.

  • @Snake644
    @Snake644 11 лет назад

    Question Force or anyone who knows about it: once you finish the sealed campaign is that it for the deck you built? I mean the initial boosters you unlocked and the extra three you unlock along the campaign? or is there any other way u get more boosters along the way? or is it simply just open another slot? thanks!

  • @testthewest123
    @testthewest123 11 лет назад

    Normal amount of lands in a 40 card sealed deck is 17. If you have a very cheap deck, then 15-16 is ok. If you have 2 rampant growth, you might go down to 16 with a normal deck.
    So I don't know why you are complaining about lands, if you need 7 for your demon.

  • @Bonta2101
    @Bonta2101 11 лет назад

    When I first read about the Sealed Deck play I was hopimg for a real draft play style, like everyone gets 5 boosters, you open 1 of them, take a card, give the other cards to the next person, he picks a card and so on. *Sigh* Guess we'll have to wait.

  • @iberales
    @iberales 11 лет назад

    On the other hand there is nothing at stake.
    Can you imagine playing with strangers if your sealed pool is not set? People joining the event, looking at rares and quitting if they don't find them sufficently potent. This would be extremely frustrating.
    I really don't like how they made this sealed format, but other options seem also bad.
    Its somewhat like playing poker with no money at stake - there is nothing to punish you for making bad plays, so there is nothing keeping peolple honest.

    Wonder why they didn't make it so that you can scrap decks in sealed play if you don't like it. It's not fun playing with a crappy deck just because you didn't get anything better and the only decks you play will be the ones wrecking face anyway won't it?
