Hi Gwen, this was meant for me to see today. I came on to look for another video but this was here so I clicked on it. Everything you spoke about here is what I have been thinkiing about myself. Serendipity at work!
Thanks Gwen. It's almost one of the hardest decisions - where to sign. I know I've regretted my signature placement on some of my paintings with now way of remedying the error. On some work, I have signed on the back.
Hello, I have just subscribed to your channel and I enjoyed this feature regarding where to sign a painting. I agree with you about trying to not distract from the feeling of the painting. Depending on the nature of my paintings, as I like to paint in different styles, I have signed many of my pieces on the rear, together with the other details. This I do especially with my expressive abstracts, so the viewer can enjoy the 'experience' better. Thank you for all the useful advice.
I don’t like Sharpies on canvas paintings, either. When I was taking classes on textile surface design, my teacher said that black Sharpies (or any other kind of alcohol marker) eventually break down in the light and develop a yellow halo and that’s not what I want anyway. Thanks you for these suggestions, ❤❤
Yes. I gave up trying to paint my name decades ago. I use archival ink markers. Fully agree with your variable placement depending on where the weights fall.
I use Posca pens in my final work in my abstracts. I use them for my signature as well. Thank you for your tips. I will be looking at my paintings to see what might more appropriate for the signature. I am also concerned about putting photos of my painting on my website and social media. Shouldn't there be a signature for copyright?

I love all the paintings you showed with your instructions. So glad I came across your channel. 😊

Thank you for this information. Recently, as I work with oil and cold wax, I have used a bamboo stick to etch into the soft paint.
Thank you for the ideas. I have struggled with this for years.
That all made a lot of sense. One question; do you need to use a spray fixative on the pencil before you varnish? I thought it might move a bit.
Thank you so much Gwen. Informan and advice is so needed for a novice like me. Much love and peace from London UK 🇬🇧 ❤🎉
I bought a variety of Posca acrylic pens and sign with those in a low contrasting color.
That painting behind you is beautiful. Thank you always for your tips.

Great video! I have wondered which is the best place to sign.. Thank you
I get joy out of watching your videos. I’m interested in what you have to say.
What if you brushed your sharpie to give it soft edges, or same with a paint marker? Very informative vid. Cheers.
Great tips

Hi Gwen, is it possible to sign oilpainting with a pencil?
