I do two additional hacks on my OD+ to help prevent light leaks but it ain't pretty.... 1. I use black duct tape across the top of the HMD to the bottom of the headstrap that goes across your forehead. This prevents a lot of light leak from the top of the HMD. 2. I went to Lowes (HomeDepot has it too) and got a couple of those free small square carpet cut samples. You find them in the carpet area (obviously)... they give these samples away for free these small samples so you can take them home to check if the carpet will go with the interior of your room you wish to carpet. Anyway, if you fold these carpet samples you can wedge them into the sides of the Odyssey+ which then makes the face covering more narrow which fits my face better but also extend the sides right up to the speakers which also greatly reduces light leak from the sides! The Odyssey+ has good lenses but they are Fresnel and if you have even a small amount of light leak it reflects all over inside the headset and I find that really annoying. So I do everything I can to keep light out without sacrificing comfort.
If anyone has sweaty hands, please get these silicone cover for the controllers. It took me a very long time to find these that aren't $50. www.ebuy7.com/item/585869891110
The VR headstrap is really awesome. I have one for my Odyssey+ and one for my Pimax... it mind boggles me that VR companies don't provide this because it provides so much better comfort particularly if you use your headset for hours at a time.
@@cscs9192 Unfortunately I don't own a VIVE so I don't have VIVE controllers and lightboxes that I could use with my Pimax... so currently I only use the Pimax for Sims... car racing, flying planes and space craft... that is VR games that don't require hand controllers. All other games that require VR controllers I use the OD+. Though I'm sure that once Pimax finally provides their controllers (hopefully by this Summer), my days of using the Odyssey will be very very limited.
a couple additional tips regarding your ideas; 1) extension cables, I had to buy a PCIe 1x card for USB 3.0 slots to use my headset, but I made sure to get one that requires an additional powersupply, doing this allows you to use a 10ft extension because the extra power applied. 2) I've seen people attach pulleys to their ceilings for getting the cable out of the way, instead, put up metal plates (like cellphone ones for magnet mounts) and nail them up, then use magnetic swivel hooks and it'll really get that cord out of the way, and not look like complete ass on your ceiling since you can take the hooks down whenever you have company, and the metal plates are near invisible
*-+*PSA*+-* THE 6FT HDMI CABLE CAUSES AUDIO ISSUES WITH SAMSUNG ODYSSEY+ I bought the one this vid links to and this has given me audio issues randomly. Within 5-15 mins it will begin loud screeching static, removing the HDMI, no problems. The USB works beautifully though with zero issues I've noticed. This is not a dig at you Tyriel or your video, so please don't take it that way. You've convinced me to purchase the Odyssey+ and couldn't be happier...just thought I'd let everyone know!
I did a cable management system where I routed the cable on my ceiling. I saw other RUclips videos where they just stuck it up there and leave it, but it looked so tacky I designed my own. Basically, buy some metal cell phone mount plates (they're for sticking on the back of a cell phone for a magnetic car mount), buy the VR headset pullies, buy a magnet hook with a swivel mount, nail/ glue plates on the ceiling and that way when you aren't playing VR, you can take it all down and only have the metal plates visible (you can also paint them the color of your ceiling)
*LOTS OF PRO TIPS HERE FTOM A DEVELOPER!:* I spent HUNDREDS TRYING EVERY CABLE. On Amazon the: 'CABLE MATTERS' 10' USB 3.0 Male to Female Extension and the 'AMAZON BASICS' HDMI 10' Male to Female Extension WORK PERFECTLY for both my RIFT and my Odyssey, (and daily, for years now.) I am a VR developer in Unreal engine, so I put it on and take it off constantly, Use it constantly, (I WORK and ANIMATE and BUILD Worlds while ACTUALLY IN VR these days!!) i'd be the first to notice a problem. I see other RUclipsrs have found the same exact 2 cables, (out of all the combinations possible lol) such as 'Caleb' over at Reality Check VR. I use standard voltage Energizer 2300MAH Recharge batteries for my Rift controllers, BUT Our friend went the wrong direction on one thing! Be it a Processor, GPU or Motion Controller, increasing Voltage DECREASES the life of the hardware. Microsoft, will _NOT_ MAKE IT EASY to replace these controllers I suspect. Instead of jacking up the Voltage, I found Pro level batteries with an extended MAH life and a LOWER VOLTAGE! (The Motion Controllers work EXACTLY THE SAME at 1.2v as Standard 1.5v and 1.6v! (Either they work, or they don't right?) I have tried all three, the best I have found (and SO AFFORDABLE!) are: BATMAX 2800 MAH 1.2v AA's eBay/Amazon. These last as long in my Odyssey Controllers, as the 1.5v 2300 MAH Enerizers in my Rift controllers now! I WAS CHANGING BATTERIES CONSTANTLY WHEN I had the 1.6v plus they only come in 2300 max. Not to say he is wrong, it is an iterative process.. The best thing I ever did for my RIFT AND MY ODYSSEY, Is switch to Official GEAR VR MicroFiber-Velcroback Face Cushions. SO COMFORTABLE. To fit it on the Rift, I added THIN sticky-backed Velco tape and stuck the Gear VR pad on sorta of around the outer edges of the rim, so it Really cradles my face, and I get Really close in to the Rift! (better FOV) ... On the Odyssey, the Gear VR pad fit perfectly,. I pulled out the silly rubber NOSE FLAP thing, because the Gear VR Pad has nice padded nose exensions and block all light but Comfortable as can be. Like wearing a cloud on your face! I bought 4 and they are easy to hand wash and dry in the sun! By Far the best quality Facial Interface Pad, is the original, Gear VR! It should be Grey Soft Antimicrobial Microfiber on one side and soft black 'cloth velco' on the other. I also added a Head Strap to my Odyssey! :O ;") So, I have basically, have turned my Odyssey into an Odyssey+ except for the screen. However, I saw through one of the +'s once, I could tell, all they did was add a thin DIFFUSION LENS (or Slightly Matte Plastic-Sheet more likely), over the screens (like a 'no glare' phone screen protector) which adds the slightest bit of blur to the output, (same exact screens otherwise!,,..) I don't like nyblur at all, I don't really even see 'screen door' in my Odyssey OR EVEN IN MY RIFT, I tend to run everything at 3.0 Supersampling Lol... So that may be why... I'm very happy to have a RIFT and an Odyssey. They will hold me over until Oculus comes to its senses, stops listening to the ROBOT (Zuckerberg) AND MAKES US OUR HIGH END RIFT CV2 DAMMIT! LOL :) I can hardly complain, I got the Rift for free from Oculus as a game developer... (Though I bought 3rd and then 4th sensorsfor it) then Microsoft sent me the Odyssey because I had uploaded a preview game to one of their aquisition managers. They were both so nice to do that! I feel like I like my screen better without the diffusion layer. I am fine with my Odyssey. Another tip: ONE THING I ALWAYS DO DAY ONE, IS PUT OPTICALLY CLEAR LENS PROTECTORS ON MY LENSES! I can't STAND SCRATCHES or Swirls! The lenses on my Cardboard, Gear VR, RIFT and Odyssey are AS PERFECT AS DAY ONE after years because I have had them perfectly protected. Friends glasses can't hurt anything! The protectors (called: HYPERKIN VIRTUAL REALITY LENS PROTECTORS Ebay & Amazon, just a few $) The Playstation VR 'size' work perfect on the Odyssey, the Rift needs the more Round kind. I have only ever put them on once on day one.. Very Clear, perfectly so. They NEVER seem to wear, cloud, scratch, or anything other than, dust fingerprints/oil, etc.. I can clean them with windex and a microiber,. OR MY SHIRTTAIL, and they stay just fine, The packaging even talks about self healing polymer molecules etc. It seem to be true!
I just got my odyssey plus a few days ago for dirt cheap. Found out about you because you had lots of info about it. You're very good. Thank you for all your help. Subbed
Fantastic video Tyriel. Getting the Head Strap on your recommendation. One little trick is a small piece of electrical tape on top of the "Windows" button, so one doesn't press it accidentally while in the middle of an intense game -- before, pressing it would throw you to the Cliff House. Basically, the tape would have the effect that you needed to press harder on the button.
I don't have a second HDMI port on my PC, only a Displayport, and I'm having trouble finding the needed active HDMI to DP adapter in 5+ feet. I may go ahead and try the suggested HDMI extension cable and plug that into my active HDMI to DP adapter since it's by far the cheapest option, but I'm afraid I might need a powered repeater or something.
I find it interesting, that hint about the audio... Windows Sonic isn't bad HRTF-solution, but for example I have integrated Sound Blaster Recon3Di, which has Creative's SBX Pro Studio-virtualizion. I find it to be about the best HTRF-implementation around (one can buy the software from Creative to any soundcard). The problem is, that I read from somewhere, that there is an implementation on WMR that mixes the motion of your headset to the sound also. And does it work using other sources, than the headsets inbuilt soundcard (Realtek USB2.0 audio on Lenovo Explorer, for example)? The proper information about anything related to the way the sound is implemented on VR is really hard to find... If you have contacts on manufacturer's etc. this would be a nice thing to find out more information regarding that.... I would gladly use Creative's HTRF-implementation and also it has a better amp to drive my headphones, which aren't most easy load to drive louder...
I added grip tape to the controller because I found it slippery. I also added rubber knobs designed for the Nintendo Switch controllers to the top of the controller joystick.
Tyriel Wood, Thank-you ! You nailed it. I use my Odyssey+ about 6 days a week, I custom sewed a new bigger face mask using a pillow filling foam+a Terry cloth from an auto parts store, I also added a 6 foot USB 3 0 and HDMI ext. Cables and bought 3x 16 inch elastic Velcro straps used 2 to help adjust support. I bought the new leather mask I may buy the head topper later, oh I also bought the MiBoxer charger and rechargeable 25000 mA Panasonic Enloop Pro AA batteries.
@@Tyrielwood I have same bateries and they are excelent. They last about 3-5 days 3-4 hours/daily heavy play like Contractors ,Beat Saber etc. They have 1.2V.Using samsung odyssey absolutelly no problem with losing tracking or some issues related to bateries.
The top strap by Studioformcreative is now essential gear for all headsets. I have it for the Digital audio strap for my Pimax. Besides comfort (it feels kinda like wearing a cap) it also helps maintain that fickle sweetspot since the headset is staying put. Every company should copy this design but until then buy one now.
Hey Tryiel Wood, Love your videos! convinced me on getting an odyssey plus, i was wondering if you could make a video tutorial on how to improve tracking since there's not a lot of instructions out there on how to do so or examples of what/how a place should be in terms of things in the area or how bright it in inside a room! any info would be great totally loving my headset, but when i try to kneel down i looks complete tracking of my controllers which is a real bummer :(
Tape on the interior side of battery covers is almost a must. Costs nothing, gets done in an instant and now the cover doesn't come loose anymore, the controllers feel much, MUCH more solid in the hands.
Just adding my 2cents. First of all IF you are experiencing USB Audio Crackling sounds when you are using a USB Extension, you might want to upgrade your Computer to USB 3.1 PCI-E Controller. That is only if you have an older 3 year old Computer. Also note that you MUST use the Microsoft USB Controller Drivers. I was able to extend my Headset to 10' for both HDMI AND USB and have NO issues once I addressed the USB 3.1 problem.
Thanks for making this video. I ordered the Odyssey plus and was a little worried about light bleed and comfort but it looks like these accessories will fix those problems.
It's ironic that I got everything on the list, except for the top strap. Sure enough, that's one of the most important things to have gotten. Just ordred it. Should've paid attention. Thanks Tyriel!
Ciao Tyriel, I am living in Europe (Belgium) and purchased the Odyssey from the US because of your excellent reviews. I also purchased about everything you mentioned and greeted sir Daniel (top headstrap guy) from you ! keep up the great work !
Hi @@Tyrielwood, I got everything except for the headstraps (Could be stuck at customs, I'll see about it) However, the headset (Ody+) is amaaazing and I only run it on a GTX 970. Still, its smooth even with SkyrimVR (slightly modded). The difference of comfort with VRCover is insane !! The batteries I got (Kentli) are uber-efficient and the Anti-SDE works wonder. Fun fact: like you and many others, at first I was like "meh..." but then I started using it more and more and now I absolutely love it. Thanks again for your great videos, you have been of much help in my decision-making for buying the best VR headset of this generation !
I'm a little confused how you got the wii mote straps in the motion controllers I tried using my old wii mote straps and I couldnt get then through the holes
Ok you suggest not to go over 5' with the extension cables, but,... the link you sent shows 6' and I hope to find 5' cabling. Most all I see are 3' or 6' or more. Just a question that I have while it just popped into my head. Will chain linking cables work, like say I happen to find a 2' and 3' cable?
Great video, this headset doesnt get the praise it should. The O+ is miles better than the rift and vive in my opinion. So much clearer and sharper and no screen door effect. Loving mine having owned it for a month now worth every penny 👍
Got a extension usb 10 feet and now I get static noise so your right you cant got over 6 feet I hook it up directly no issues soon as I add a extender I get static noise
Hi, Tyriel! I wonder what you think about the Odyssey (regular and plus) after one year... I see many many new visors improving in some topics, but geting worse in others... Like the Vive index, wich would give me better FOV & controllers, but making worst the glare & sacrificing the black levels of the odyssey... I just still don't feel like paying for that "give & take". I hope you see the message, cause is an old video...
Hello. I have some questions about the VR games and VR set and for my rig. So to my questions! 1: My rig is an I/7 8700K 3.7 6 Cores and I can overlock it more if necessary, Nvidia 2080 RTX Ti 11GB, 16 GB DDR4 2666 and I play the games 4K in a 28" Samsung monitor. So is my rig enough at least for now for a great graphics/FPS (Frames Per Second) VR gaming experience or I need to upgrade to add something new? 2: Can I play the VR games 4K like I did with the conventional PC games or there is not something like 4K with VR or at least 2K/3k resolution 3: Are this VR set, easy to learn to play, calibrate or fix do it's with bugs and problems like most of the Hardware and is it healthy to play for hours and hours or because of all of this thing up to your head and eyes, of course, it's dangerous or you can't play for a long time and more? 4: Can I play sitting down to my chair and I prefer to play the VR games sitting not standing and stuff and my playroom is kinda large so I am cool do I need something bigger or smaller room are better I just don't know? 5: I have Win10x64 so am I cool with it and like the GPU and more you can find the latest drivers for the sets in the net? 6: In my rig, I have USB3 and USB2 and I connect my GPU to my monitor with DP (Display Port) and I have one up with my monitor and two HDMI am I cool I don't have blue tooth do I need an adaptor or something? 7: I only want this to play VR PC games with my PC like Half-Life Alyx that is the best of all is it good for VR pc steam games?
The extension cables for HDMI and USB should be 6 foot or less because of voltage drop over the length. The only way to make it longer to say 10' would be to use pure copper or silver infused wire with a larger gauge wire.. it may be possible to create your own with advanced connector tools but itd be a task.
Awesome video! Been thinking about that top strap and might finally pull the trigger on it, just so nice to take some of the pressure off your forehead.
Hey tyriel, great video, was wondering if you've ever gotten this black screen blinking green light issue that's been happening with a lot of mixed reality headsets? I've had it happen on two of mine, would love any advice.
Hi, Do you know how to check if my controlers are in power saving mode ? I didn't know about 1,6v bateries and bought 16 pieces of panasonic eneloop 1,2 V. With them I don't see any diffence with the perfomance of controllers but I would like to know for sure :)
if you don't notice anything wrong don't worry about it, but you can see when you are in the cliff house, just turn your controllers and check the battery status, if it is always on red, prob you are in power saver mode, let me know!
I use 1.2V rechargeable batteries, no problem at all with their lifetime, but Steam shows maximum 2 green marks out of 4 (or 5?) when they are fully charged.
Could you use efest imr14500 3.7 v rechargeable batteries in the WMR controllers? Or is the voltage too powerful ? These are high drain unregulated batteries I have used for my Ecig.
Nice tips! And yeah I'm a huge fan of my Odyssey Plus, but I too ran into the problem of loud sound static when using the 10 ft USB Extender cable I used on my orig Odyssey. However, I found out that switching it to 2 USB 3.0 cables instead (one 4ft, one 6ft), running it from my USB 3.0 C port, and putting a powered USB Hub in the middle fixed the problem completely. :) But I'll defintely have to get those better batteries and Wii-mote straps. Every time I have kids use the headset I worry they are going to launch the hand controls into the TV. LOL
If you really want a popular video for owners of Samsung, and for all those considering it, with it being regularly on sale, I can tell you how. Oculus games. When you load into them, even with the best gear, they begin to stutter when you are in complicated environment, or especially around a lot of enemies or other players. It stutters and the screen jumps. According to videos I have seen, and reports online, oculus games worked fine through revive. Then a few updates later and suddenly it doen't work right. I am not sure if it is steam vr, revive, or both that have to be rolled back, or the version to roll back, and exactly how to load it. I have also heard of the experimental version of revive, called remixed, which is used by loading the game a very specific way. If you could make some videos of how to get oculus games working again. Echo combat is the main one people really wanna play, That and Robo Recall. If you could demonstrate how it could be done, and show yourself in the main play area, then that would get a lot of buzz as many headsets are being released and that is creating a lot of interest in vr in general. If people consider the advantages of, and how amazing the Samsung Odyssey Plus is, while also knowing that they can play some of the most popular games out ther, with no restrictions, then that would go toward much more interest in it, and your channel, and you. Please make this video. I have talked to more than 50 people this week about this.
The extension cables don’t work with my odyssey plus the audio is just like static earape and I don’t know how to fix it tries everything from different USB ports hdmi uninstalled mr portal uninstalled steam vr works fine without cable my gpu is Vega 64 please help
The HDMI extension cable link is the same as the USB one... I'm interested in both because the ones that I have worked fine with me Samsung Odyssey, but not with the Samsung Odyssey+
I went with your advice for batteries and chose the PKCell AA Ni-Zn 1.6v batteries. They work fine but I have noticed something very strange. I have used these batteries in the Odyssey controllers for the last 2 weeks at about 1 hour every other day. They are still showing full charge in Windows Mixed Reality? My other Eneloop batteries lasted about 3 hours before they were flat. Anyone else noticed this?
The VR cover is so comfortable but I never use it because I can see my feet where my nose sits. The nose area has too much light bleed for me, anyone have a simple solution?
A note for viewers, I got a PCIe-1x USB 3.0 card to add more 3.0 slots, the one I got was "self powered technology." While the self powered card will do just fine powering the headset alone, it will not power the headset with the extension cables also. Get a PCIe-1x USB 3.0 card that requires external power and it will power your 6' cord, even 10', since it takes power directly from your powersupply. Then you may Truly, pimp your Odyssey.
Great video, if only Europe could actually get this headset.... Question: I dont have a VR headset atm, I sent my HTC Vive back the screen door was just too much for my eyes, I wont pay the extortionate Pro Vive price, this leaves me Rift as my only choice in Europe at the moment as the other WMR's are terrible(? like no IPD etc). Wait or get the rift? I know 2019 lots of new kit is coming but realistically its going to be the end of 2019 stuff doesn't have a release date and even when it does the stock will be hard to come by?
got mine O+ from there (www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1437424-REG/samsung_xe800zba_hc1us_hmd_odyssey_windows_mixed.html) all in all 370€ at the Moment incl. shipping and duty costs
Tyriel, I just received the head strap. Wow, what a difference it makes. Thank you. I'm still waiting for the VR Cover to be in stock so I can order that. I had the VR Cover for the first gen OG and I liked it a lot.
Thanks for sharing these tips and most of all for the Windows Sound hint ;-) Question: is there still no possibilty to buy separate Controller for the O+ or all other WMR HMDs?
Good video as always however you can also turn on spatial audio from the Mixed Reality Portal settings screen though I find the audio in the Samsung speakers really lacking. The tones sound muffled and you can't really (at least I haven't seen a way) control the audio levels such as bass and treble. I stick to using my stand alone sound card, Philips headset and using my DDS2 from Turtle beach. Sound is much richer and controllable.
thanks for the tip, and well yep, a nice sound card and good external headphones will always be better! did you remove the headphones or you just slide them up?
@@Tyrielwood I didn't remove the speakers from the headset. I put my philips headset on first. By doing so it also adds support for Odyssey as well. I do plan on removing them in the future after the warranty expires.
Hi Tyriel. Awesome communication skills mate. Great info. I'm a big guy, my head too... What is the length with and without the velcro straps of the head strap?... Seems very small for me .. just wanted to check... Cheers
I just took off the face pad and now the device rests on my nose and it feels like the lens assembly is rested against my eye sockets. I can definitely feel my eyelashes touching the lens. I have to clean the lenses about once a week, but otherwise the comfort of using the device and the focus is great now. I really wish Samsung would have included a focusing knob.
Tyriel, the headcover works extremely well with the HTC vive! I have it on my HTC vive with the Deluxe Audio strap and HTC vive wireless adapter attached...it completely takes all the weight off of your face from the front of the headset to a more secure fit to the top of the head! Great product (I also did the lens replacement mod and it looks even better than my Odyssey Plus).
Tryriel, I own the Odyssey 1st gen and love it, I have heard the O+ was better with the SDE removed. I purchased O+ this last Samsung sale and have been comparing both. I can say the O+ removes SDE but I cannot seem to get it as clear as the 1st gen Odyssey. My question for you and anyone wanting to chime in is- Did you have the same issue and will purchase of the headstrap and new Visor resolve. Is it an adjustment issue? Im trying to find a resolve to keep the O+ as my primary headset, I just feel the 1st gen looks sharper in vision. Thx all :) VR is awesome!! I also own a Oculus Rift which I just cannot bring myself to play as much due to the love of the Visions from Samsung Odyseey!!
I also heared that the sharpness of O+ is not as good as 1st. I want to buy either one, but have no idea of which. What do you think? How do you see it, is the SDE worst, or the lack of sharpness?
I will say that the regular odyssey will always be sharper, because there is no filter on top of the screen, but if you are able to super sample from steam VR around 170 the situation gets much much better, more gpu demanding though..
MaxGrit I agree and disagree with Tyriel here. But keep in mind my comments are with recent failing vision and not being 20/20many ore I may not see the differences. Agree that it will always be less clear. (and less contrasty). Supersampling improvement benefit seems to vary with each game. I find it improves detail rendered in distant scenery which does nothing for immediate close up action. So mountains lets say, may get mire terrain detail. I still does NOT clear up the images and I've always felt like I needed to wipe the (nondirty) lenses. I thought claims of loss of clarity were nonsense until I bought this. But it is worse than expected.I went back to a used Vive Pro and find the SDE much preferable and you do desensitize to it after you stop looking for it. At $299 though, it might be best bang for buck and maybe you'd get used to the haziness. But I'm super happy with the VPro even at 2.5X that price and extra wires
@@Tyrielwood I contacted this company and they said that they are tested on the standard controller but not the Samsung. Since it is a slightly more ergonomic shape it might not fit well. Has anyone tried these on the Samsung Odyssey controllers?
I saw your other video about the comfort band/seal when I was searching for a headstrap and saw the strap in it. Just ordered it. I can't believe Samsung doesn't give you one with it or at least sell separately! It is so uncomfortable. At least I only paid $279 for the Odyssey+ :D . Edit: Does anyone have issues with their controllers not connecting or randomly disconnecting? They always say they are paired and the lights will be on but they don't want to connect..:(
@@Tyrielwood I'm using the ones it came with. I also have problems with the Odyssey not showing up in the VR programs and I have to unplug both plugs and try other USB ports. Other than the actual head pain from the HMD, this whole thing has been a real pain. All my other USB/HDMI devices work fine...
Yeah you can not go over 6 foot cables the sound will go complete static after a few minutes. I took the old straps off of my son's old Dell headset because they had the clips. I bought the top strap because that is what this headset needed.
has anyone tried the active usb3 cable and powered it with external power to see if it works. I have my cables above head and absolutely LOVE it. no tripping over wire/ getting wrapped up in them. I just ordered UGREEN USB 3.0Active cable with signal amplifier.
Great video, will def get the pad and straps (currently solving the light bleed with black electrical tape and bits of cotton wool!) Cheers from the UK
Do any other oddysey + users have issues with revive when playing oculus games. Mine are unplayable due to massive lag any ideas how to fix? I dont have these issues with my steam vr games and have a library of oculus games that I own that arnt playable for me at the moment

@@Tyrielwood I have tried Beat Saber, Robo Recall, Oculus Dreamdeck and the climb and experienced terrible lag whenever I move my head in any direction. Don't experience it on any Steam games I have tried though.
Ciao Guys! Let me know if you are using any other particular trick or accessory with your Odyssey Plus! Let's make it the best headset yet! :)
It took me a very long time to find these that aren't $50. www.ebuy7.com/item/585869891110
has anyone made a hack for it to be a flip up headset like some other WMRs?
unfortunately not, because you can't change the distortion value on WMR like the Vive..
unfortunately there is no way to do it..
The VR headstrap is really awesome. I have one for my Odyssey+ and one for my Pimax... it mind boggles me that VR companies don't provide this because it provides so much better comfort particularly if you use your headset for hours at a time.
Hi tom, as you said you have both odyssey+ and Pimax, which one do you use mostlty? considering Pimax have much better FOV....
Though I'm sure that once Pimax finally provides their controllers (hopefully by this Summer), my days of using the Odyssey will be very very limited.
a couple additional tips regarding your ideas;
1) extension cables, I had to buy a PCIe 1x card for USB 3.0 slots to use my headset, but I made sure to get one that requires an additional powersupply, doing this allows you to use a 10ft extension because the extra power applied.

THE 6FT HDMI CABLE CAUSES AUDIO ISSUES WITH SAMSUNG ODYSSEY+
I bought the one this vid links to and this has given me audio issues randomly. Within 5-15 mins it will begin loud screeching static, removing the HDMI, no problems. The USB works beautifully though with zero issues I've noticed. This is not a dig at you Tyriel or your video, so please don't take it that way. You've convinced me to purchase the Odyssey+ and couldn't be happier...just thought I'd let everyone know!
the solution to this is to plug the usb into a powered usb hub. no issues since making that change for me
I own the cables in the description and I haven't had any issue so I guess others just have to be either lucky or unlucky
I did a cable management system where I routed the cable on my ceiling. I saw other RUclips videos where they just stuck it up there and leave it, but it looked so tacky I designed my own.
Basically,
buy some metal cell phone mount plates (they're for sticking on the back of a cell phone for a magnetic car mount),
buy the VR headset pullies,
buy a magnet hook with a swivel mount, nail/ glue plates on the ceiling
and that way when you aren't playing VR, you can take it all down and only have the metal plates visible (you can also paint them the color of your ceiling)
Since my room is tiny i can walk the entire distance around my room without the cable not being too short.
This gives me hope
Any alternative for the Top Strap? i love my new oddysey+ but studioform is out of stock and this thing is killing my forehead
It's back in stock as I type.
Never had a problem with the way it sits, a friend always has a mark on his nose.
There are foam faceplates and oth strap.
He is so much better than MixedRealityTV. Tyriel is very precise in his description, opinions, essence.
they both are good, why be negative?
@@EpicConspiracy opinion?
Seriously? Lol
Thanks. Just ordered the head straps and Vr cover. I was getting eye strain and headaches too.
Subbed
I'm glad you like it!
Is the picture sharper with the fluidity of movement on steam set to off at 90hz.
So I have a 1.2v battery. Is that enough or does it have to be 1.6v?
Can you use active power extensions that are longer?
If only the headphones were removable.
same here :S
They are if you're brave and own a soldering iron :)
Personally i dont really care about the headphones
I just wish they would extend a bit lower. The sound is pretty good, but my ears are apparently low, and they don't quite reach far enough.
Anything is removable if you're brave enough.
Great Video! Just wondering, does the windows spatial sound only apply to the audio on the headset or all of the audio inputs on the PC?
if you have the odyssey sound selected it will apply only to that!
Do the cables still work
I find it interesting, that hint about the audio...
Is the mic good in it?
I added grip tape to the controller because I found it slippery. I also added rubber knobs designed for the Nintendo Switch controllers to the top of the controller joystick.
I did the grip-tape thing, too. Huge improvement.
That's a great idea actually! amzn.to/2BZ4Uan this?

Did u know how to turn on controller vibration in beat saber?
Thanks for sharing Darren! About the batteries, do you know the voltage of those?
@@Tyrielwood I have same bateries and they are excelent. They last about 3-5 days 3-4 hours/daily heavy play like Contractors ,Beat Saber etc. They have 1.2V.Using samsung odyssey absolutelly no problem with losing tracking or some issues related to bateries.
@@Tyrielwood I use the Panasonic Enloop Pro 2550mA batteries 8 pack and a My Boxxer Nicad 4Battery charger from Amazon.

What is the lowest Voltage needed for the controllers??
The headstrap is so simple I might be able to fabricate one. Thanks for this video. Very helpful.
The top strap by Studioformcreative is now essential gear for all headsets. I have it for the Digital audio strap for my Pimax. Besides comfort (it feels kinda like wearing a cap) it also helps maintain that fickle sweetspot since the headset is staying put. Every company should copy this design but until then buy one now.
yep1
I wonder what is better Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic for VR
I've been wondering which non farcebook version headset to try. Maybe this is it.
Hey Tryiel Wood, Love your videos! convinced me on getting an odyssey plus, i was wondering if you could make a video tutorial on how to improve tracking since there's not a lot of instructions out there on how to do so or examples of what/how a place should be in terms of things in the area or how bright it in inside a room! any info would be great totally loving my headset, but when i try to kneel down i looks complete tracking of my controllers which is a real bummer :(
More light is better. When you're kneeling down, you're likely blocking the light source from the sensors.
Wow that spatial audio tip really made you earn the like and subscribe!
Tape on the interior side of battery covers is almost a must. Costs nothing, gets done in an instant and now the cover doesn't come loose anymore, the controllers feel much, MUCH more solid in the hands.
top!
What are the measurements of the top strap?, been planning on makin my own :D
ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS I HAVE SEEN IN AGES. GREAT WORK!!!!! :) You got me to subscribe!
Thanks John! welcome to the channel! :)
I have that exact same laptop!!! It's great but it doesn't support the index or pimax so that limits my 2nd gen vr options.
Thanks for making this video. I ordered the Odyssey plus and was a little worried about light bleed and comfort but it looks like these accessories will fix those problems.
congrats for the odyssey order! yep, the stock cover need to get out as soon as possible! it completely destroys the experience!
Does the OG Odyssey also have this 3D audio thing or just the Odyssey+?
it works for any headphones, them advertising it like it's exclusive is stupid.
Does the VRCover need a plastic interface too like the Rift or just the pad itself? Like do I just rip the old one off and put the new one?
It's ironic that I got everything on the list, except for the top strap. Sure enough, that's one of the most important things to have gotten. Just ordred it. Should've paid attention. Thanks Tyriel!
Ciao Tyriel, I am living in Europe (Belgium) and purchased the Odyssey from the US because of your excellent reviews. I also purchased about everything you mentioned and greeted sir Daniel (top headstrap guy) from you ! keep up the great work !
let me know when it will arrive !

I'm glad you like it! yep, it's a great HMD!
I really like your content keep up the Good work :)
nintendo switch joycon joystick caps work great too, it makes it feel better instead of an all plastic joy stick.
2: Can I play the VR games 4K like I did with the conventional PC games or there is not something like 4K with VR or at least 2K/3k resolution
3: Are this VR set, easy to learn to play, calibrate or fix do it's with bugs and problems like most of the Hardware and is it healthy to play for hours and hours or because of all of this thing up to your head and eyes, of course, it's dangerous or you can't play for a long time and more?
Hi,
Do you know how to check if my controlers are in power saving mode ? I didn't know about 1,6v bateries and bought 16 pieces of panasonic eneloop 1,2 V. With them I don't see any diffence with the perfomance of controllers but I would like to know for sure :)
if you don't notice anything wrong don't worry about it, but you can see when you are in the cliff house, just turn your controllers and check the battery status, if it is always on red, prob you are in power saver mode, let me know!
@@Tyrielwood Thanks for your answer - I checked them and they are light blue color so it seems ok. You don't need 1,6v bateries.
I added prescription lenses from VR Optician for a little under $70. They're easy to put on / take off for sharing and I love not needing my glasses.
I use 1.2V rechargeable batteries, no problem at all with their lifetime, but Steam shows maximum 2 green marks out of 4 (or 5?) when they are fully charged.
The extension cables did not work for me. I have an ASUS TUF X570 and the audio does not work with any extension cable.
Could you use efest imr14500 3.7 v rechargeable batteries in the WMR controllers? Or is the voltage too powerful ? These are high drain unregulated batteries I have used for my Ecig.
No idea man! But if you try let us know please!
@@Tyrielwood i played it safe and bought the batteries from your link.
LOL
Thanks for the Tip Richard! ahaha yep! better to have good straps to keep TV and kids safe from flying controllers :P
Yup adding a hub fixed for me also
If you really want a popular video for owners of Samsung, and for all those considering it, with it being regularly on sale, I can tell you how.

What is the sidebar you are running there on windows?
it's called sidebar diagnostic!
That top strap is an amazing find. I tried my headset for ten seconds without it, then with it, then never went back.
The link is to a Quest headstrap, is that the one that works with the O+?
@@RyanTinger the link is to many of them, one being the Odyssey strap
Has anyone made the Oddysey+ front into a flip up front conversion? Why cant HMDs have a flipup front!?!

Thanks for sharing these tips and most of all for the Windows Sound hint ;-) Question: is there still no possibilty to buy separate Controller for the O+ or all other WMR HMDs?
there is, you can find them on ebay, but unfortunately the Odyssey controllers are very rare, you can find the others though

I have it on my HTC vive with the Deluxe Audio strap and HTC vive wireless adapter attached...it completely takes all the weight off of your face from the front of the headset to a more secure fit to the top of the head! where can you buy vr cover in europe for a resonable price?
vrcover.com has worldwide shipping and the pricing is pretty reasonable for all their stuff, especially considering many things come in sets of two
Tryriel, I own the Odyssey 1st gen and love it, I have heard the O+ was better with the SDE removed.
We really need silicon covers for the controllers. Has anyone found some that fit?
I put a link in the description!
@@Tyrielwood I contacted this company and they said that they are tested on the standard controller but not the Samsung. Since it is a slightly more ergonomic shape it might not fit well. Has anyone tried these on the Samsung Odyssey controllers?

I did it too :) Thanks for sharing!
They always say they are paired and the lights will be on but they don't want to connect..:(
Be sure to have the right batteries in there!

1.6 is the same voltage of regular batteries, usually rechargeable are lower, around 1.2 or 1.0

I really hope they come out with some cheaper touch sense controllers

That VR cover looks mighty fine!

Thanks Alex! do you have both or just the vive for now?
Just the vive aha. Don't need 2 vr systems.

i got a 16 foot ACTIVE usb 3.0 cable which was a AMAZING investment and it works super well
Do any other oddysey + users have issues with revive when playing oculus games. Mine are unplayable due to massive lag any ideas how to fix? I dont have these issues with my steam vr games and have a library of oculus games that I own that arnt playable for me at the moment
I had the same problem , i suggest you to enable WMR reprojection as described here:
steamcommunity.com/games/719950/announcements/detail/1652133167137673234
I'd say WMR only supports mabye 20% of the Rift library through Revive.
I usually play Echo arena and From the Other sun and I have no problem with those, which games are you trying to use?
@@Tyrielwood I have tried Beat Saber, Robo Recall, Oculus Dreamdeck and the climb and experienced terrible lag whenever I move my head in any direction. Don't experience it on any Steam games I have tried though.
