  • In this edition of Leg Daddy University, we show you how to install hanger bolts into your sofa and chair legs without damaging the threads.
    If you were to install the legs by grabbing them with pliers, the threads would be damaged, preventing them from being installed in your furniture.
    Using this method - affectionately called the "Double Nut Method" around the office - You have an easy grab point for tools without damaging the threads.
    In this video, you'll see Item # 103*601183, the Leg Daddy 2" Dark Finish Square Fluted Tapered Sofa Leg. We installed a 5/16-18 hanger bolt in this leg, but you could use the same method for other size bolts.

    Nice job but a few tips:
    If you want to use slip-joint pliers, move to the next slot channel that will allow the handles to come closer together and give you a better grip. If you are screwing into a freshly drilled pilot hole, use a box-end wrench or socket on the nut. The job will go faster, you won't chew up the nut and you will have more torque. Also, place a washer between the two nuts for the wrench or socket to rest on and help keep from unscrewing the bottom nut.

    Thank you so much! Very helpful.
    What size is the pre-drilled hole in the leg?
    And how deep should the pre-drilled hole go into the leg?

    I'm glad I looked into this, I am putting taller legs on my computer desk, and I wasn't going to spend 13$+ on a hanger bolt driver for a drill for a one time project I will surely never use again.

    Ok so for a REAL newbie, what size hole do I drill in the wood ahead of time? Normally when I pre-drill for a screw, it's only by a little...then I use a power drill to finish the job (not my hands).

    I'm getting ideas to go about raising our 3 seater lounger that was once a pull out sofa. I want to raise it 20cms and then I'll have to make an inner frame to support the weight of 2 elephants.

    - VERY helpful video. Thanx 4 sharing. Now, how do you remove the entire foot without unscrewing it from the inserted bolt ???

    • @rawiyahsphere
      @rawiyahsphere 3 года назад

      Use a little glue in the pre-drilled hole of the foot when screwing in the hanger bolt. I have to do 6 of these for a Kluft bed box spring that is missing the feet. It has a thick 12mm bolt that NO feet on the market have, they all have the standard thread of 5/16.

    Please I have a question. I have a low settee that I want to raise by 10cm, to be more comfortable. The wooden leg is 10cm and I would need a 20cm leg. The hanger bolt in at the moment is 48.3mm total length with only 23.3mm threaded for the wooden side. What length of hanger bolt would better or can I make do with the current length of hanger bolt? Many thanks, Tellytubbytennis.co.uk.

  • @BlackPete...
    @BlackPete... 5 лет назад +2

    Yep. That's helpful but to do it "properly", you shouldn't use pliers. That's just rough. Even using an adjustable wrench is borderline rough. The "proper" way to do it is with two spanners of the correct size. Using pliers on a nut is like using a bread and butter knife to tighten a screw.

  • @swilhelm3180
    @swilhelm3180 Год назад

    Wow, your standards are so low. "Keeping the bolt straight" and precedes to dangle it in the air turning it by hand with a wrench. Unbelievable.
