I guess so, gotta regulate the voltage 13.5vdc to 5 vdc and put a resistor current sensor to open the supply to the circuit when it senses high current, plus add a fuse.
Also you need you'll need to do something to supply the circuit only when the car it's turned on.

Good project for school. To actually use it, I face the following questions:
1. Does it work only for line of site obstacles? What if a culvert exists just below the line of site?
2. Cars mostly have 12V systems. Will this equipment work on 12V? What modifications are required?
3. Up to what distance the sensor starts sensing obstacle, say 2Mtrs.? 1 Mtr.? If it is 30 Cms only then it is not useful.
4. This kind of product packaging and fixing to car body with double side tape will not survive in Indian conditions. Kindly suggest some more robust solution.
Looks like your are doing this only for your business promotion and not for real value stuff. Sorry for being blunt.
