Glad you guys enjoyed it! The guitar player (Michael Romeo) is actually a huge fan of classical music. They actually have quite a few songs with references to classical pieces.
Amazing! I love melodic metal and I think a lot of the beauty and power of that genre is tied to the classical elements that are used so well within it! This is great stuff!
@@josephpliler392 Russell Allen is one of the best voices in the entire genre, period. He has been asked as lead singer for one of the big metalbands, I don't know anymore if it was Iron Maiden, Sabaton or Megadeth, but one of these bands wanted him. He turned them down tho, didn't wanna leave SX. Being wanted by such a huge band is a sign of his voice-mastery, and being able to turn them down is proof of strong character. This man is a fcking legend if there ever was one.
No, that's incorrect, what actually happens is that the guitar is so terrified when Romeo picks it up that it plays any note he wants, even if it shouldn't be able to be played.
I think their best work is V: The New Mythology Suite. The entire album is quite strong and it flows really well. If I had to pick highlights - Fallen, Communion and the Oracle, Egypt to name be a few.
Regarding the guitar/synth solo around 10:19, guitarist Michael Romeo uses a pitch pedal in some of his solos, so it is indeed a guitar playing a note a guitar can't really play, followed by a keyboard solo.
Glad you fell in love with this great band. Less-known than Dream Theater, but imo at least as good and at least as impactful on the prog-metal genre. Every musician should know of SX. Other great songs to react to are Walls of Babylon, To Hell and Back, When All is Lost, The Odyssey, The Divine Wings of Tragedy. The first three are more like this song, the last 2 are two of their older epics.
You just listened to the best guitarist/ metal composer in the world , Michael romeo is no joke…his biggest influence is star wars movies soundtrack Great reaction video
hey my man have a gift , but all band is in the4 zone , jason are one the bests ever, and realy romeo=ET the base is the virtuose in the band kkkkkkk hey this is the great prog metal band in all times
@ THE WOLF HUNTERZ hi i am alex i from Romania and i will like to request som folk metal if you like some Romanian folk metal the band name its E-AN-NA and you check any of their songs
Symphony X is awesome, but i feel that Iconoclast was their weakest album, thankfully they knocked it out of the park with Underworld and proved that they still got it in spades.
I know it's an unpopular preference, but tho I accept that Iconoclast as album is not their best, the individual songs Iconoclast, When all is Lost, and Reign of Madness are imo up there amongst their best epics. The epics of Iconoclast are actually my favorite of the entire SX catalogue.
Revisit it. I agree that on the first, or even second and third listens, it can seem relentless. But put it on, turn out the lights, let it run all the way through, and really *listen* to the subtleties. It really starts to shine, and is far more emotional than the heaviness suggests. It is clearly their *heaviest* album, and that gives their catalogue a nice contrast to their proggier stuff. You will also be surprised by how large a part Pinnella's keys play in the album, when on first listen you might think it is all about the guitar. "When all is lost" is also one of the best songs they have ever done, on any album.
@@b.k.4954 well i didnt say that i didnt like Iconoclast, i simply gave my opinion that it is their weakest album, but even their "weakest" is still a banger. still i intend to revisit their discography, so i'll honor that request, have a good one.
For me, as a fan of really heavy shit, Iconoclast is their best album. I'm not a fan of this neoclassical sound they used to have. Also the last album is little boring. "War of the worlds part 1" by Michael Romeo is an awesome album. Heavy and prog, just the way I like my music. Give it a chance guys. It's like a Iconoclast part 2.
@@mikkolappalainen9916 i like heavy stuff, but i dont come to Symphony X to hear heavy stuff, everyone's doing the heavy so i'd rather Symphony X be different.
symphony x has no bad songs
Agreed. Only mediocre songs at the worst
@@jaspergillgannon4991 not even that 🤘
Every song on every album is excellent. 100%
Couldn't agree more. Soul poured into each and every song, every album overflowing..
@@Easyflux 100% G.O.A.T.
Drummer's Jason Rullo. One of prog-metal's finest. Watching him live is even more satisfying.
very underrated in my opinion.
That's what I was thinking just right now bro..:
Ah Jason Rullo.. 💖💖💖.
Walls of Babylon similar kickass song next pls

@@TheWolfHunterZ and the singer (Russell Allen) had another band called Adrenaline Mob where they had Mike Portnoy on drums! They were dope!

The higher notes on guitar solo are reached with a whammy pedal. It takes the note and pressing the pedal you can switch it to a few octaves higher.
Oh that makes sense! I don't play guitar so I didn't know that was possible! Really killer solo!

Communion and the Oracle is one of my favorite songs ever in any genre.
Walls of Babylon is a must 🤘

Todas as músicas do Symphony X são fantásticas. Esses caras são sensacionais
IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN SYMPHONY X.
Try their songs Communion and the Oracle or Candlelight Fantasia for a different, more melodic Symphony X.
lol the note youre talkin about on the guitar was from a whammy pedal/pitch shifter it pushed the pitch up 2 octaves then the keyboard solo takes over
Best band of all time IMHO ;)
Jason Rullo was on fire in this track.
Symphony X best band in the world 🇬🇧🤘
Symphony x the odyssey

Mike lepond on Bass. Great bassist!!!
Best band ever, period!
My favorite Old School Epic Progressive Metal band
One of the most underrated bands ever. Symphony X > Dream Theater
Masterpiece.
🤘😍🤘
Michael Romeo's little hands are working overtime on that guitar.
Amazing band! If you want an experience, I reccomend reacting to "The Oddessey" by them
That was a whammy pedal..he' pushing it all the way down an pulling up on whammy bar on guitar..shoving the note super high🤟🤨
Romeo гитарный бог!
Not sure if Michael Romeo uses a pitch shifter pedal like some guys but that’s what it sounded like to me
Happy Birthday Sir ! This is classic progressive stuff ! Remarkable ! Bravi ragazzi good review !
Finest NJ Progmetal....
You guys really need to check out Walls Of Babylon from SX.
Great band I like the odyssey by them but it long lol
GREAT SONG!
Michael Romeo the maestro!
SX does not produce crap!
In anything and everything they do --
Some efforts are better than others; but there simply no bad songs/albums from SX!

Solo guitar use whammy
Pedal whammy
All their albums are good ..but their last few are more metal... and the older ones more neoclassical, but still heavy
Now check out Fates Warning
Do the Oddessey by Symphony X.
