  • Rocky Mountain Folding Bike Tour day 3…. Sorry for the delay guys…. It didn’t come out the way I wanted but oh well🤷‍♂️. My GPS kept taking me the wrong way, or rather the wrong road.

    Carbs and sugars give me migraines. Removed them 90%, and now I don't get the migraines that make me vomit and have to be in complete darkness due to light sensitivity.
    Doing a binge rewatch of Brian videos. 👍

    Brian , when you talk at 12:14 about the front gearing, you could instead change the rear cassette from that 11-32T 8 speed to one for a mountain bike. On my 8 speed road bike I swapped my 11-30T Shimano HG-40 for a Microshift Acolyte CS-H083 12-42T. They do a 11-42T version as well now. I've used it for >2 years now and the steel sprockets have not bent so they are hardy. I don't know if the cassette size interferes with folding the bike so you need to check that.
    If your rear derailleur is a Altus RD-M310-Smart then you would need a derailleur extender. An example of the shortest that will likely work is the Sunrace extended link which has an ASIN of B07DWCTKKL ( not the cheapest place so shop around ) . Its made of 7075 Aluminium alloy which is harder and stronger than the standard 6061 alloy. The compromise of using an extender is that is makes your shifting worse in the smaller sprockets. You may also need a longer chain ? In my case I didn't as I used smaller front chainrings.
    In hindsight I would change the derailleur to an Acera M3020-8 . Have a look at ruclips.net/video/TaYEF3dLPpY/видео.html . Officially it can take an 11-40 cassette but in this case a 11-42 worked !

    Brian , you kept your word and got the video out !
    I'll bet the loss of those sunglasses made your headache a whole lot worse ? I drilled tiny holes in the arm ends of my cycling glasses and tied elastic across them. That way I can't casually take them off or lose them in a traffic accident.
    It's a miracle you didn't get sunstroke as you looked rather 'crispy' . Good to see you had a 'neck protector'. Your UV exposure would have been high because of the lack of vegetation, the altitude as well as the cloudless skies.
    Presumably you took the bike with all the attached gear into that Kum & Go ? At least you didn't get bike-jacked.
    I am still thinking about your chain lube , particularly with respect to touring as it's an extreme case. I think your best bet is to replace your existing oil with Silca Synerg-E ruclips.net/video/3ifQCpmmZAI/видео.html. For everyday commuting you could use a drip wax like Effetto flowerpower which is sunflower oil based ( could say it's vegan 🙂 ) . Both these options avoid having to buy a crockpot and heat any wax ( not convenient when touring ) . Obviously you can't apply one lube on top of the other as they are incompatible !
    So far , the best environmentally friendly chain cleaner ( to strip all the factory grease off ) is Ceramic speed UFO drivetrain cleaner. ZFC used 100 grams to remove the FG from 5 chains !

    Rockstraps are your friend for touring...a more advanced kind of bungy cord. Safer and very adjustable. Very pretty country...I think I could keep up with you on the used MR6 bROMMIE I fortunately just aquired...unloaded that is ha ha at age 69.

    My favorite aspect of the small wheeled bikes is that luggage attaches to the frame, so the load is always static (not affecting steering), low, and balanced front-to-back. I remember bombing down loooong descents in the Scottish Highlands, fully loaded, and more confident than on my unloaded big wheel bike.

    Are you drinking enough water and getting enough nutrition? The expenditure by your body biking for umpteen hours a day means you need extra hydration and food.

    A few things. Great video and trip!
    I recommend checking out ultralight backpacking community channels and research better quality ultralight gear. Companies light Mountain Laurel Designs are making bike packing gear out of materials like dyneema/cuben fiber, roibic, and ultra that will really lighten your load while keeping functionality.

  • @wthompson006
    @wthompson006 5 месяцев назад

    Please invest in a bike computer. You can plan your trip ahead and upload the map and literally can’t get lost or turned around. It will alert you if the gps detects you are more than even a few feet off your intended path. I hate to see you struggle so much.

    Why on earth would you leave unattended your $150 sunglasses on a public space….?…..Then you blame the entire country? C’mon man that’s on you…..your negligence.

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  5 месяцев назад +3

      I set them down temporary to grab some food and a drink. This type of thing has happed a lot. I never said it wasn’t my fault….I’m a forgetful person. Out of the many times I’ve forgotten something and went back seconds later to get my item it was gone. When I got hit by a car a couple of years ago my bicycle computer fell into the road where I was. I saw it…. When the medics picked me up to put me in the ambulance I pointed to my computer on the pavement asking them to get it and as I looked I didn’t see it to which they said they would search to find nothing. A passerby picked it up while I was there writhing in pain and kept it.
      I never blamed an entire country and I wish people would stop taking what I say to such extremes… I said most people are detestable- which they are. I said so MANY people in this country are horrible…. Which they are…many People are selfish and rude and don’t care about anyone but themselves.- it’s a defining human characteristic. Look at history. I said nothing that was not factual…. Most people offered their condolences on my sunglasses…I like how you absolved the rotten person who stole them instead pointing the finger at me solely. Why not ask people in general to be better????🤔
