This is a first class interview not only by the late Brian Moore but the ease and eloquent way Greavsie answers the difficult questions. Unfortunately we have to witness the sheer drivel which currently Purveyor’s our TV.

He definitely should have gone to Derby rather than West Ham. It would have been very interesting to see what Cloughie would have got out of him. More than a couple of seasons, lots more goals and maybe a trophy or two. Fabulous player and so modest and likeable as well.
Jimmy Greaves one of the all time great goal scorers in World football on pitches that would have seen the games called off today. It was nothing but a privilege to sit in the stand at Spurs and watch this supreme entertainer. Thank you Jimmy for never forgotten memories. COYS.

I watch some of Jimmy's goals and think; I could have done that... and then you remember the definition of a genius; Someone with the ability to make the very difficult appear incredibly easy. RIP Jimmy
I used to talk to Jimmy whilst out walking dogs, maybe around 2014, a true gentleman. I never mentioned the game, I think he thought I had no idea who he was. He had a Labrador, I had two Staffords,, we just used to talk dogs and general stuff. He loved dogs and helped local rescue centres.
@@dondamon4669 Yes he played 26 times for England and scored 7 goals. Greaves played 57 times and scored 44. In 379 games premier league games Fowler scored 163 goals. In 379 top flight games for Spurs Greaves scored 266. Why would he have heard of Fowler.
I believe it was a great tragedy that Jimmy was not on the pitch in the 1966 World Cup Final. He was England’s most complete striker at the time! RIP Jimmy.
I remember when my hero, Alan Gilzean, went to Spurs. What a forward line that must have been with him playing alongside Greaves. Thanks for the great memories Jimmy.
For many of my age that came to England from Cyprus in the sixties ( Greek and Turkish) it was only one team to support and that was Spurs and only because of Jimmy Greaves. I was fortunate to see Jimmy Greaves score twice against Newcastle in October 1969 at White Hart Lane . Since then I think only Van De Varts scored in similar fashion ( but not as many) like Greaves did.

Absolutely brilliant as presenter, interviewer and commentator, and also wasn't afraid to state his opinions about the state of the game. We'll never see his like again.
Grew up listening to Brian Moore on The Match on ITV. They always had a division 1 game on a Sunday and it was either Brian Moore or Alan Parry commentating with either Jimmy Greaves or Big Ron as co commentator, absolutely loved those days

Two of the most genuine guys ever to be involved in football. Jimmy is an all time great and Brian, for me, was the best commentator ever to grace our screens. Thank you to you Jimmy and to you Brian wherever you are .
Brian confessed once that as a rookie commentator he spoke too much as he'd heard many others do so on the radio. He was pointed in the right direction by the TV company and changed his style to suit the more visual audiences. I wish somebody would tell Sky's Martin Tyler the same thing ... waffle waffle waffle, drives me mad....
Saw him when I was a kid at Bramhall Lane and he absolutely tore us apart! He never blasted a goal just seemed to pass it into the goal, and when I see a player today blast it over the bar or wide I think to myself Greavesie wouldn't have done that, on his day he was unplayable against!
Greaves was a marvellous player and I think under appreciated. Not too many players could play at the top at Chelsea, Spurs and Eest Ham in the golden era. Some player. Used to love The Saint and Greavesy
Me also. The first football sticker album I remember from 69 or 70 ( we had it before the Mexico 70 one with Bobby Moore & Co on front cover ) which had front cover photo of George Graham & Jimmy in the midst of a tackle - but I was only 6 & the Man U team + Terry Paine were all the players I could name till a year or so later when they’d retired 👍
Jimmy you are the greatest,my boyhood hero.I was at the Semifinal at the Lane in 62 ,what a night! Unfortunately you have been forgotten by the current sports media how great you were. Greatest goalscorer I've ever seen under his circumstances. Winter pitches that resembled battlefields and, by his own admission, running out onto the field under the influence of drink and still scoring goals. Legend.
jimmy what can you say that has not been said already he was a one off player r.i.p mr greaves thinking of your family at this sad time lets remember how he entertained us all through the years with 357 goals thats why he was a class act a football legend
Proper footballing legend. People say that with the rules today, defenders not having as much free range with tackling that he'd get 60 goals a season nowadays. But I look back at the state of the pitches then when he was scoring 30/40 goals a season regularly and look at the pristine pitches today and agree that he'd score a hatful. Absolute LEGEND
Bought this on VHS as a kid in the early 90s. Brilliant interview and Jimmy was a very articulate and intelligent man. Genuine world class striker. Probably the greatest goalscorer that England has ever produced. Football aside though, they touched on his alcoholism and his recovery. Back then people were quite reticent and few understood these problems and how they came about to sportsmen. Credit to Jimmy for speaking so openly and honestly about it and also being very humble. He was a top bloke. Credit to his wife and family too in his recovery. Sadly not all wives or people are willing to help a husband or family member. It takes great strength and thanks to the efforts of both parties, Jimmy got himself back together and live a good life❤

As a Scot I loved Saint but for me it was Greavsie's humour that made the show. I recall one line he used ; ' yeah Saint, I was deadly from all of 6 inches..'..... such self-deprecating humour and all the better because it was so patently untrue...he was a deadly striker full stop. Lineker reminds me of him a little. Btw a wryly humorous aside: there is a lovely interlude in 'Taggart', the Scottish long-running detective series where Jim Taggart says to McVitie ( the biscuit, lol ) "I remember it well sir, it was the day England beat Scotland 9-3". I didn't know you were a rugby man, Jim.", McVitie saysTaggart replies " It wasn't rugby sir, it was soccer ".....

When the word "Great" is used, Jimmy Greaves definitely comes into the equation. He was an exceptional finisher, and if ever a more better natural goalscorer as ever existed in the history of the game I have yet to have heard of them. Greaves was a master of putting the ball in the net.........Legend
Jimmy's autobiography is the only sporting biography I have read. As we know they are usually rubbish, but Greavsie is well written and confirms he is a thinker and sardonic wit.
When he was at Spurs he and Frank Saul put Forest out of FA cup in the semi final Jimmy scored with a "daisy cutter" from edge of penalty area with his left foot, Forest were runners up in league that year, but had little to shout about for years until Clough arrived.
The word "legend" is thrown around left, right and centre these days.Usually the accolade is not really deserved but in the case of Jimmy Greaves it's the only one that fits.Great to see this programme about the greatest goalscorer ever, get well soon Jim.
i always remember jimmy greaves from my first days as a child footballer. but legends come after their death. check your dictionary and don't wish jimmy an early grave.
I wish i was born the same month and year as Jimmy Greaves in a way because if i was i would've seen and had all or most of the things Jimmy has seen and had in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s which were the 8 most popular decades that all the really well known big things happened in each even though Jimmy's career was mainly soccer and being on the TV sport programme lucky Jimmy bless him RIP Jimmy Greaves.
I always laughed at the Saint and Greavsie TV duo, I never realised how much of a Giant of the English football game Greavsie was until I saw a documentary of Englands World Cup success and how an injury messed up his participation. His alround striking ability is sensational and caps/goals ratio is simply phenomenal, unlikely to be beaten, a true legend of English football, and his strength of character an inspiration to many across the World.
Those pictures of him in his suit coming out to congratulate the player's on winning the world cup...that must have been hard for him incredibly hard but he showed the utmost class and dignity...r.i.p master striker England's son🙏

Jimmy's autobiography is the only sporting biography I have read. As we know they are usually rubbish, but Greavsie is well written and confirms he is a thinker and sardonic wit.
The finest goal-scorer in English football. He was made captain in his last game for Chelsea v Nottingham Forest and he scored all four goals.
.
When he was at Spurs he and Frank Saul put Forest out of FA cup in the semi final Jimmy scored with a "daisy cutter" from edge of penalty area with his left foot, Forest were runners up in league that year, but had little to shout about for years until Clough arrived.
And played for the finest team.
Think he got his intelligence from Danny Blanchflower.
The word "legend" is thrown around left, right and centre these days.Usually the accolade is not really deserved but in the case of Jimmy Greaves it's the only one that fits.Great to see this programme about the greatest goalscorer ever, get well soon Jim.
walesdad .
Like your comment although I would say Ray Crawford. God bless you.
i always remember jimmy greaves from my first days as a child footballer. but legends come after their death. check your dictionary and don't wish jimmy an early grave.
Jimmy was magical to watch, class, sheer class, get well jimmy
The pitches were fantastic in those days
60yrs of watching football and still say jimmy greaves is the best goalscorer i have seen. alan shearer and ian rush ran him close.
What a great man.
RIP Jimmy
