scrolling down to see every one is an expert like usual.
proud of you for learning and video taping your self doing this.
Mav torqued the wrench at an approxumate 40 degree angle. Hes got to be careful because the right angle is 98 Degrees to avoid injury 😉
😂😂 you don’t need to be a “expert” to change oil it’s common sense you sound dumb af
@@KyngRuben where's your video ?
Drew A so you’re that stupid I need to make a diy video for you? Or?....
I know, right? He has the courage to try and that's the best way to learn. I have learned it is well worth it to pay $75 for an oil change, lol
Impressed that you are willing to change your own oil! A tip from my Brother-in-Law who is a Class-A Mechanic, always coat the contact point of the oil filter with a coating of oil before you seal it. Also, never use power tools. If the bolt is rusted use some WD-40. Stay safe and healthy!
Awesome job Mav!! Great work as always. Little tip I learned for when removing the oil filter. Grab a larger sandwich ziploc bag and wrap it over the filter. Crack it loose and all the oil in the filter and the remaining oil inside that section will fall into the plastic bag and you won’t spill or make a mess. Nice little tip I learned and works great for oil filters that are set sideways to the engine. Hope it helps you.
Anyone else just feel peace and comfort as soon as they hear the car beep cuz u already know that’s Mavs trucks sound
You are good at figuring things out and having a successful outcome. Love that awing.
Top tip start the engine and recheck the oil level as it will go down
Vauxhall Rebuilds Hoping he did that and edited out if not luckily they can double check and add. Was going to comment this also 🙏🏻🔥
That is depending on your car and if you feel your oil filter up or if you don't lot of different factors in my Lexus IS250 it does not go down after I started the car which I thought it would myself after 25 different times of changing the oil checking the level starting the car and rejecting the level even after driving it it never changes kind of weird but it doesn't just one of those exceptions to the norm
Personally, I always warm up my car then double check when it cools down. And yes when you change a filter it always takes more 😂. Not as bad as a motorcycle though. Lol
I know my 2016 5.0 says check warm and let it sit for 15 mins before checking
Why did I read that as "Redneck the oil" 🤣🤣
I enjoy this channel. One thing to think about when changing oil. Remember to check for the gasket on the old filter before installing the new one. Also if you turn the truck on and let it run a few minutes, then you will find that the oil level will have dropped on the dipstick. So you may need a little more oil added. Especially if you didn't put any oil in the filter before installing.
Once the air gets hot enough, you're going to be miserable no matter what, but without an awning it's even worse. My trailer is always a few degrees hotter than the surrounding temperatures, so a 100 degree day can be 105 inside. And it can store that heat for a long time into the night, too. That's even with a nice big awning, and extra shade cloth, and under a tree! So good going, Mav, the money is well-spent.
Pro tip: when you can’t break the drain bolt loose easy hit the end of the ratchet with your open palm and it works fantastic. Only use impacts as last resort. Sick awning though!
In a pinch, when trying to remove the oil filter you can wrap a few rubber bands around it to give you a better grip. Works for stuck lids on jars too. Hope that helps
Cool install on your truck! I have little to no experience in the mechanical side of fixing my vehicle but I am impressed when people want to learn to do it themselves.
Small tip I learned- keep the bolt on for the last few threads and slowly pull/turn away and apply pressure to get small drops and then pull through while aiming at the drainage can. I’ve done a few mess’.
make sure you wash your truck really good! if those shavings are left up there even small ones the shaving will rust sink into the paint and then rust the metal of your truck in less than a month! i installed an awning on my jeep after drilling and i just blew the shavings off now i have rust speckles down the drivers side of my jeep! wash it and try to wipe them off with a rag!
"jack of all trades, master of none" That's just it man, and everything turns out great! Keep the great content coming!
Lol I literally read this comment as he was saying it. Weird.
I am excited to see where life will take you man. Keep loving the dream man
That is such a cool house! Very mid-century modern! Very Joseph Eichler! If that home were in Palo Alto, $ 4,000,000 easy....
That awning is sweet. Nice job. Learn as you go the best way to learn is to just do it. Mistakes are made to learn from right
Wow, never seen anything like that awning. That's quite the setup! You totally extended your living space!! 😎
Mav: I hope you dipped your finger in some new oil and then ran that oil around the gasket on the new oil filter before you put it on. That little bead of oil helps you to remove the filter on your next oil change. Otherwise the gasket might stick on the oil pan when you remove the filter. If so, then you have to scrape off the old gasket before installing the new filter otherwise you will not get a tight seal and it will leak.
That canopy is impressive. I hope you like it.
The Lonesome Fisherman I was hoping the same thing lmao
@@Purodubtown I have to think he would know to do that but in case he didn't I thought I'd mention it. Just in case.
Stfu
Psyts74 he’s spitting facts though
MT Cup 🤣 lol
Great video. The awning is amazing... But dude.... Your parents' house is an amazing piece of mid-century architecture. A tour would be awesome!
Definitely need to start investing in some tools. Definitely cant go wrong having them around you'll use them and they will always be there
Bull crap they get stolen and you can’t find them when you need them
@@mattiescreations what horrible area do you live in that theft is that bad? Lol I have never had my tools stolen
Awesome Awning.
Glad to see you learned on your own just like the rest of us. Good Job!
Here's the entire quote.
"A Jack of all trades is a Master of None.
But oftentimes is better than a Master of One "
Keep it up Kiddo!!
Love Your Channel.
you know what I like best about this video? Dude's not trying to make it look like he was a total pro from the beginning. Nice to see someone be able to say I'm not sure what I'm doing.
It's vids like this that I can just focus in on and reset my mind. Thanks for all the peaceful content Mav, the world is a crazy place right now
FYI, you don't need a $15 package with the words Center Punch on it. Any pointed piece of metal and a hammer will serve the same purpose. Sharpen a screwdriver, or any scrap dowel metal you may have laying around. Put the point where you want your hole to be, bang the back end of it with the hammer. Boom, center punched.
@Frost pot Ah man, a nail, I can't believe I didn't think of that lol. I'm a machinist so I just don't really work with nails much.
I cringed hard when he grabbed the electric gun to take the oil plug off
I lowkey did too
@@mav lmfao
Fine to take it off guy at our place uses it all the time for years now never a problem. It's when you put it on you don't want to
Fine with steel oil pan as long as it’s not super tight on there but never do it on an aluminum pan....ask me how I know
Caden Cruickshank I would actually like to know lol sorry we’ve all been there
That step stool is a vibe
“Learned that from the RUclips video I just watched...”lol the honesty is awesome. RUclips took another oil change from a lube shop lol and you didn’t have to listen to the guy tell you 3 other things you need
I'm a Chevy guy and this is by far one of my favorite trucks on RUclips!
Thanks for sharing the Alaska trip Mav, I miss Fairbanks all the time!
Safe travels brother❤
Your little step ladder is sooo cute with the flowers! 🤣
Nothing wrong with mom's step ladder.
That’s actually really cool. Definitely worth the money. 👍🏼
You watch Mav too? I love your videos clawboss!
Yooo
His butthole is worth the money too so dont forget to subscribe
Mav, what you need now is a roof top tent..I love mine, and you get your truck back for all your stuff you don't have yet
I have the same awning.. not only that it's a great 'piece of shade', but also if you get the sides you can turn it into a huge living quarters 👍
I literally got my oil changed today, feel like I should of done it myself now.
Love your set up!
I put a darche 270 awning on my nissan patrol about 2 years ago and it changed my life! Especially here in Australia where the sun cooks you to the core! One tip I can give if you're using it alot is to keep an eye on the bolt in the pivot points. As you open and close it eventually it will start to loosen and you will need to tighten it up. Other then that its been maintenance free!
Happy camping!
I’m not an expert but whenever I have an oil filter that is hard to remove I punch a screw driver through the side and turn it
Gotta start somewhere and learn as you go. Didn’t start working on vehicles till I was 18 and now I’m 22 and the lead mechanic at my shop as a diesel technician. Keep on trucking man! Also gotta shoutout ChrisFix I learned a lot from him.
Those style of oil pans/cans are ideal. I remember changing the oil in my car once with a standard tray one and I was stuck for weeks trying to figure out a way to get it to the tip for disposal lol
Dude!!! I need one of those mmediately!!!! Looked like it was pretty straight forward to hang the thing.
I just watched one of your fishing videos, it was my first video of yours. You got my 👍🏼
I'm from Colorado and stay out of my truck topper 4 nights out the week for work you inspired me to do so I have a high rise leer on a single cab ram 1500 8ft. Bed 👍🏼😎
For all reading this:
Tech tip, you can buy a replacement oil plug that has a turn valve on it so you don’t even need any tools other than oil filter grippers. This is a great option for people with high ground clearance vehicles.
ONLY HAND TIGHTEN THE OIL FILTER AND OIL THE SILICONE RING AROUND IT BEFORE INSTALLING.
Hey Mav, thanks for another fun video. I always enjoy when you share your adventures with us. In each one there is always something to learn from you. Keep up the great work. Be Safe, Stay Healthy & Well!
Mechanic told me punching a screw driver thru the filter you can turn it easily. It works in a pinch without the proper wrench
I came across one of ur videos about a week ago and now I can’t stop watching all of them. Ur a dope ass dude, bro!!!
I’d recommend using the drill to break the tight lock on the oil bolt then when loose using the wrench until comes off or by hand until comes off
I applaud your dedication to learn all this new stuff to keep your truck going. I'm a new follower. I have a fairly heavy backpacking history but getting older and would love to start some truck camping. Have watched a handful of your videos already and am looking forward to seeing new adventures.
Little tip on getting an old oil filter off if you don’t have a filter wrench. Pound a flathead screwdriver into it and use that to torque it off. It doesn’t matter that your punching a whole in it because it’s trash anyways.
I like that you are actually honest
That awning looks like a high quality piece of kit that you'll get good use of.
That awning is awesome! Truck goals for sure! 🤙🏼
I love the awning you put on your vehicle, I love it!!!!
MAV finally got sponsored!!! Yessir!!! Been here since the beginning and it’s cool to watch you get those big bucks lol! Keep up the good work!
LOL, just started watching 3 videos of you and now I’m getting a bunch of Truck advertising. Who would have thought.
Yes the 270 ‘ awning is an awesome piece of kit. I have the 23zero 270 mounted on the driver side as well. Have fun go, Offroad
I like. That awning,I also like how you condense.favorite to watch.stay safe my friend
Awning=Game-changer
Next Level
As a mechanic of 18 years I gringed when I seen you best out the power tools to bust the oil plug loose. Said to my self I hope he doesn't use it to retighten it. You did a good job tho. Also a tip a coating of new oil on the seel of the new filter idk if you did that or not. Keep up the great vids
That awning just might work for my F-350 that I use for wildland Fire incidents. That will be a real morale builder for my operators.
Maverick, my advice for you, take it or leave it-
1. Get a Haynes or Chilton manual for your truck. Makes it immensely easier to work on it yourself.
2. Get an assortment of parts- extra belts, extra fuel filters, extra oil filters, extra oil (I suggest enough for your truck, 4-5 quart jugs), and other fluids. Also stop leak for anything that uses fluids. This really doesn't take a lot of space. A couple of .50 cal. milsurp ammo cans works great. And you can also buy an attachment so you can lock the ammo cans. They also work gresat for holding tools.
3. A sewing kit. And learn how to sew. It helps an awful lot when you have a eart or pop a button. On top of that the thread helps when you change the oil. Loosen the plug, tie a thread to it, and let it drop[ in the drain pan. Then pull it out using the thread. Simple.
4. Make your own oil funnel. Using a used one quart oil bottle, cut the bottom off. Stuff it with an old t-shirt when not using it. Wrap it with another old t-shirt and put it in the ammo can with your tools. This funnel makes it far easier to fill your oil, and it's recycling what would be in the garbage.
Watching you "stumble" is more than half the excitement. Nicely done!
Keep stumbling across your videos and have loved every one, new sub from way out in England 😎 keep on keeping on, Mav.
It's amazing that I was looking at one of those today. I settled for a $30 canvas tarp...LoL
For $30 bucks and very minimal labor I made a tarp for my truck. It can be set up on either side and the storage area is minimal. I'm thinking about having two, heck maybe three.😎
Loving the way the rigs really coming together I need one of these for my Duramax with a shell I’m converting into an overlanding rig and I also loved the video style keep it coming!
Always check to make sure that the old filter gasket comes off with the old filter, sometimes the gasket will get stuck on the oil filter adapter and can be hard to see. If you screw the new filter on it will spray oil everywhere when you start the truck. Just wanted to give my 2 cents.
That is a killer addition to the truck!!! 🤘🤘🤘🙏🙏🙏🙏
Cant wait for your camp in the snow with that kind of roof....im a solid fan mav....
Marv you do things like I do LAST MINUTE and you get things done fast and WELL!!!
That awning is sweet can't wait to see how it improves your camping experience! Good job on the install
That awning is so DOPE!!!!!
i dont know if ull ever see this.. but for a stuck oil filter you can stab it through the side with a screw driver and use that to turn it. may be a little messy but will help. Great videos man!
Love that awning add on on the truck. Niiiicceeee.
Another tip not just for you but anybody that reads comments you can also use a leather belt to get off oil filters stab a screwdriver straight through the middle as long as you make sure you get it off or you can use a rubber belt from an old Van belt or something like that put it around it start spin in
Mav check your air filter super easy to do. Dont know the history but might be time to do spark plugs and all new fluids in the diffs, transfer and transmission. Also a spare to match the bigger tires. 👍
Awesome addition Mav that awning will be a great to have.
I’ve just found your channel, and you have done what I wanted to do myself. … before I joined the Marines. I wish I did this when I got out. Good job kid, I’m going to keep tracking you. Semper Fi.
Mav you truly inspire me I can’t wait to see more of your videos be safe bud
Large screwdriver straight through the old oil filter to help turn it (obv cant do that with the new one though lol)
Lovin that manly ladder
$900 ain't shit when you see how much use you will get out of that awning!! Nice work Mav!!😉👍🌲
Well done man, DIY stuff always feels good. Forget any haters
Also that awning is sick, well worth the money.. woulda loved to see how easy it is to put away.
I'm so jealous of your lifestyle bro, keep it up.
MAVERICK . i laughed so hard when you jumped underneath the truck from the oil . too funny bro.
Hey mav. If that's the 5.4 triton, consider running 5w-30 instead of 5w-20. If you do this your cam phasers will last much longer in the 3 valve engine. If a Ford truck has a 5.4 trade in after the year 2004 it has the 3 valve. They have a lot of trouble with their cam phasers and it is a fairly expensive internal engine fix. I have had numerous Ford technicians as well as personal experience and experience of coworkers and acquaintances agreeing that the slightly thicker oil will extend the life of the motor.
Thanks for the upload Mav, keep it up.
Minnesota! Minnesota! Minnesota! SKOL! love the channel bro. Keep on keepin on!
Bro had sum drip finally 🤟🏽🤟🏽
I would love that for hot or rainy day bank fishing.
Good idea til fill a little oil in the new filter before put it on 😊 So it doesent start up dry the first seconds after change 😊👍🏽
And the old oil filter, you can just hammer a screwdriver throgh it, and use this like a wrench 😊👍🏽
Love your content, and just mean it like a friendly help
The awning is awesome. Cant wait to see you put it to use in a rain storm. Good job, Mav!
The beat bush craft oil filter wrench is a good leather belt.
run your engine for 5mins and let the oil circulate and get warm before emptying it ❤️ love the video
You need to wet the seal on the oil filter before replacing it so it seals correctly. Plus tighten that oil filter more . did a good job for first time
Use Amsoil oil and oil filters, you'll be glad you did
Haha I have the same In-N-Out shirt! I got it in Reno, NV on a cross country trip to Lake Tahoe. Also the roof awning looks like a great investment, can't wait to see how you use it in later videos.
To anyone changing oil, the trick to not getting oil everywhere when you remove the plug is you crack it first with a socket, then turn it by hand and at the same time you push it in. This means that when the bolt is out, it’s still blocking the drain hole. It’ll drip a little still, but won’t cover your arm. Then you quickly remove it.
damn I didnt kno that 😁
For your black tube on your truck instead of spray-painting it may I recommend using some gloss black vvivid car wrap it wouldn't cost much at all. It'll hold up and look sweet over time
Great video, good job on the oil change and awesome awning.
Well that’s interesting awning. Can see how it might come in handy in certain weather conditions. It did seem expensive. Even RV s have the awnings that go over the entrance side of campers. I suspose you could get one camping tent top kits from Walmart or like..to set up over the back end of the trunk on rainy or hot day... but you still have to pack it on the vehicle and set it up each time.
1:59 the dipstick is behind the camera talking. love ya Mav
One day Mav, it's the fate of the famous and fertile. You definitely save bucks doing your oil change and if anything goes amiss, only one guy to blame. Just look under periodically and check your oil regularly. Wipe the plug nice and clean so you notice any wee leaks.Every three oil changes put on a new gasket. Wow, expensive is right but very useful and it looks great. Good vid Mav. Peace.
We always hammered a screwdriver through the side of the oil filter to get it off!
