The most knowledgeable and intelligent channel out there. Keep it up Tom, you deserve more.
Wow, Kyle....thanks so much. I really appreciate it. :)
Kyle Lorenzo where to buy a tarantula?
Tom Moran where do I buy my first tarantula?
@@josephinegilberg4952 You should research what kind of tarantula you want first, and if it's the right species for you; about how to keep and take care for them. I'm researching Ts for several weeks now and I still don't feel ready to actually buy and take care of one. I'm still in the process of learning, and I don't want to make too many rookie mistakes. There's so much information to be found on RUclips, I'd kindly suggest you to digest as much info as you can cuz your question of "where to buy one" feels a little too enthusiastic combined with too little background info AKA having no idea how to take care of a tarantula. Maybe I'm totally wrong but that's what my gut feeling's telling me. ^^
@@TomsBigSpiders Hi Tom. Sorry to randomly reach out but I could use your advice. I set up a balfouri communal for 5 slings modeled.afyer yours. Second day in they settled behind a piece of cork bark I put in the upper right hand instead of ome of the 4 hides I put in there. I cut a cricket yesterday and it appears they didn't even leave their hide to eat. Should I remove the cork bark to encourage using the other intended hides? Or am I overthinking it and should give them time to settle in? TIA!!!
Ugh I get so happy when I see a new video from you
Awwwwwww...thanks, Kat!!!!!
Tom Moran Are you no longer making videos?? I really hope not. You’re well respected and give us wonderful content/information. I hope you do come back. Hope all is well!! 🤗🕷
@@NYandAZ I second that motion!!
Man, I went to school for Invertebrate Zoology but didn't finish because of lack of funds. If I had finished and become a researcher, I would seriously want to go on expeditions looking for communal balfouris in the wild. Their social behavior is very developed for a species and genus that supposedly never lives together. The way they figure out a hierarchy through food fights is amazing. They are extremely careful not to hurt each other, yet will very forcefully try and steal the prey. Even their interconnected web tunnels makes me think they have done this before. Their communities are absolutely fascinating and I really feel there must be some kind of evidence of such in nature somewhere on that island. I would love to make that research happen. Maybe not, but the more I see them interact, the more I feel that way...
Ugh, what a shame...we need more like you! :) Someone has to observe them in the wild so that we can put this whole debate to rest. If they are NOT social in the wild, that would mean that they just started doing this in captivity, which would be even more fascinating.
2 years and counting I've been following this project!! Finally bit the bullet and picked up half a dozen slings this weekend. They're doing great so far!
Thanks for the inspiration Tom
Thank you, Dougie! I was honestly shocked when I realized that it had been two years already. :) And congrats...that's awesome!
Dougs_bugs.85 I have some pics on Instagram if you have a second to give some feedback :)
So what happens if they have babies and more than one gets pregnant. That could be hundreds of little spiderling.

These T are really remarkable, I am amazed at how well they interact with each other.
These guys never fail to fascinate me. :)
Hi Tom, I watch ask your videos and I have beautiful 16 T's because of you and the education you put out there about them. I'm almost 50 and have been scared to death of T's and finally just got my first one about five months ago and I'm very happy, I did. I'm addicted though lol as long as I have them I will continue to watch everyone of your videos. All my respect Tom and wish you the best.
Thanks so much, Brutus! I truly appreciate it. :) When I got my first, I was terrified of them, so I definitely know the feeling. And the addiction is REAL. haha Thanks again!
These T videos have really helped me out. Last summer when doing the garden if i saw a spider i would scream and run, but this year im like "i wonder if the little guy needs a drink?" So thank you.
That's awesome! I used to be terrified of spiders, so I totally get it.
They're so fluffy and cuddly😱😍
I know, right? :)
Best communal you can have in my opinion you can't go wrong and yes it's amazing watching them interact especially the males great video as always Tom 🙂👍
First off...YES, I'm up for a round three of "Off the Tongs." :) Wasn't sure you saw my reply to that. I'm off for the summer, so I'll have some extra time on my hands.
Thanks so much, bud. I agree completely. It just doesn't get any better.
Tom Moran OMG I've had people asking for found 3 they are going to go mad I'll be in touch Tom 👍👍🙂🙂
Opens up a new dimension to the hobby
It really does, Kevin!
Amazing work as always, Tom. Your communal was the one that made me have to get mine.
MIKE!!! Thanks so much, bud! That means a lot! :)
You show things that are too general on google and said by other people I like that you are so detailed and try things for your self.
Hi, Pana! Thanks so much! I try to be as detailed as possible so that folks know exactly what to look for. :)
Didn’t realize it’s already been 2 years. I’ve purchased 2 5 packs of slings and a few females over the passed 2 years. I never ended up doing a communal because I couldn’t afford to lose any. Great vid tom thank you for all the research and observation you did the passed 2 years!
Neither did I! I was SHOCKED when I did the math.
I honestly don't think that you'll lose any if you get the chance again. I've heard from dozens of folks since starting this series, and I've heard of only one instance where someone lost some (and it sounded like an escape). Anyhow, thanks so much, bud!
Tom Moran I am going to put 8-10 juvies together soon and test it out. It will be nerve racking for me for sure but seeing you guys all have success has gotten me a more comfortable with the idea.
i didnt even realize i spent 46min listening to this information lol. very enjoyable to watch and listen to. and this answered many of my questions.
Ha! Thank you, Avisala!
Just starting to get back in to T's after (gasp) 20 years. Easing into it with this as my end goal (5+ years from now), this is an awesome video. Thanks. Following/working my way through all your videos w/likes =) keep em coming! Thank You and your "camera gal"
Welcome back to the hobby, Gery! And thank you so much from both of us!
I just rehoused my 5, got 4 out and took a good 30mins to find the last one, i was amazed when I put the final one into the new enclosure one of the others hurried over from the other side of the enclosure and climbed on top of the fith. As if to say "I'm glad you made it!"
Thanks for chronicling that for us. Your earliest videos were what prompted me to take the leap with the M. balfouri. I bought six that I've been keeping communally but I've only seen 5 after this last winter. After watching your video I have hope that it's still in there but I do have to do a rehouse very soon. I guess I'll find out for sure then. Awesome video as always.
Thanks so much, Alex! I love that so many people are trying these out, as they are truly amazing. We had a running joke here that we could only ever spot 8 of mine, so I bet that your little guys is still in there. I'll be curious to see what happens with the rehouse... :)
I'll keep you posted. I should be doing it real soon. I can't tell you enough how great your videos are. You take the time to be real thorough about everything. It really helps when trying something new. I'm real particular with what I put my money into because I have to scrape and save for any tarantula money I get and your videos really took the fear out of me starting a communal with these tarantulas.
@@TarantulaHaven well was she in there or not
I finally pulled the trigger and got a trio. They are all around 1". This video was amazing and SUPER informative. I'm looking forward to capturing my experience with them!
That's awesome, Morgan! Thank you so much! You're going to love them. :)
Unreal... 2 years already!? Good stuff bud. P. metallica communal go go go!
I know...can you believe it?
And about that P. metallica communal... ;)
Great to hear from you as always, bud!
Tom Moran it's for science! Comparing the communal behavior of another species and seeing how they compare (at least that's what you should tell Billie if there is pushback :p).
She had NO problem with it. She's the best. :) I'll be posting up a video tonight or tomorrow. :)
I love watching your videos!! You are very informative, I love watching these guys! Not in the hobby.. 5 cats and one dog is enough for me... this was awesome!!
Thanks so much, Joyce...I really appreciate it! I try to go for more informational. :) Maybe someday we can convince you to get one... :) I have four dogs as well. Nothing can replace them. Thanks again!
You should feel very proud of yourself Tom. What a beautiful and very informative video. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching every second of it. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much, Becky! I still can't believe that it's been 2 years already!
I just want to say thank you for all your excellent knowledge
I recently bought a Brazillian Blue that was a baby. Is now 4 inches at 2 yrs old
Thank you so much, Patricia! And congrats on your Brazilian blue!
This has got to be the most amazing and informative video on an M. balfouri communal. I had no idea how intricate and beautiful it could be. I said only one more T...but maybe it will be multiple Ts in one enclosure. This video has been a great tool to learn with...thank you
Hello! Thank you so much! When started with my communal, there wasn't a lot of complete info out there. My hope was to document the whole thing from start to finish. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had while keeping tarantulas. :)
Started my communal of 5 M. balfouri today. Super excited to watch them thrive!
That's awesome, Stycks!
Looking great, my P Regalis are 8 month old and they have grown so fast being together, they have webbed up together and stay right close to each other, its amazing how fast they have came on living together
Thanks so much! And glad to hear that they're doing well...that's awesome! My P. metallica communal spiders are growing very fast as well. It's amazing!
I didn't know they would live communally.. Any update on this? how have they been as they mature?
@@MintyFarts Tom has a few videos on his RUclips I unfortunately had to get rid of alot, I only have my colony of M Balfouri left.
It's so sweet how they eat off the same prey item together!
I LOVE that behavior. It's adorable! :)
LOVE LOVE LOVE the Balfouri clan. This was the best video on them. Thanks Tom.
Hi, Joyce!! Thanks so much! I had a total blast putting it together, and I thought that you might appreciate it. :)
I bet you did. They are a tiny miracle of nature.
That was an absolutely awesome video Tom.. Amazing.. Nice Job keeping over a years footage for this video.. Awesome awesome stuff.

Thank YOU for taking the time to say hi, Jamie! :)

Wow, thank you so much...I truly appreciate that!
Many months ago I start look at your communal setup and little by little I want mine. Just jump on business and bought 5 sling. But here in Europe we're lucky can get it less cheap around 10/15€ (a bit less than 20$) for a sling. Thanks Tom for your amazing work!
Hello, Payu! That is excellent...congratulations! Wow, I wish they were that cheap here in the states! :)
Great video can’t believe how awesome the journey has been!
I was SHOCKED when I realized that it had been two years. And this was the first time I had seen all of the footage together. It blew my mind a bit!
Great video Tom. It is amazing to see this in one video. I have shared it with our arachnid group. I was really great to see. Excellent footage.😀😀😀😀👍
This was VERY satisfying to put together. I haven't seen some of this footage in quite some time, and I feel that it was even more powerful when all put together. Thanks again!!!
Absolutely love your Tarantula Town! That was so interesting! ❤
Well, thank you so much!
Great video! I always look forward to the content you upload, but especially so for your M. Balfouri updates. Hard to believe 2 years have passed already. Keep up the great work!
Hey, bud! I was actually SHOCKED when I realized that it had already been two years. Thanks so much!
Wooo! Amazing Tom!
Thanks so much! :)
What a fascinating video! Thank you for sharing. It must have been a very rewarding experiment for you. :)

Thanks so much, Dom! This one was really fun to put together.. :)
Tom your a legend!! I’ve learned so much from you, YOUR AMAZING!! Thank you 🙏😁
Wow, thank you so much, Caron!
What a terrific video showing their progress. I loved to see them growing and changing but most of all how social they are. Thank you for the video!
Thanks so much, Toni! The social part still blows my mind a bit. :)
Your balfouri vids sre the reason I got my first balfouri communal about 3 days ago! I got five 1.5in slings! I'm so excited!
Man, that's awesome! Congrats!!!
I absolutely loved this video..iv seen them all separate but I just picked up 9 Monocentropus balfouri yesterday from Rayn Mack and this video was like a time lapse of yours from when u first got them up till now..thanks so much for doing what u do a huge 👍s up buddy. 🙂
That's fantastic! Ryan is the MAN...love that guy. I forgot to respond to that part of your email! I'm going to be interviewing him on my podcast about his enclosures. :) And thanks so much, bud!
Brilliant video. Perfect timing as I have just bought a 5 sling communal 👍
Thanks, Craig...and congrats!
Really cool stuff. Eventually I'd like to try this myself.
Thank you so much for this video. I have one balfori now but i was thinking of starting a communal, alot of great information there
So glad that I could help, Ross!
great footage of the balfouri!!!! communal blows my mind
Thanks so much! These little guys are always doing something interesting. :)
Awesome video. the most in depth filming of there behaviour i have seen so far. i wanted a communal setup already, but evan more so now.
Thanks so much, Andy! I'm SO glad that I was able to catch some of this stuff. And you have to get one when you can. Soooo rewarding. :)
Great video, Tom! Very cool project.
Thanks so much, Joe! :)
that was the coolest thing I have ever seen and I have been watching spider videos on RUclips for a very long time now and have been absolutely drooling over getting one I haven't yet but I hope to in the future this was absolutely the coolest video!!! Thank you so much for sharing your videoI hope that you continue to post videos like this one it was definitely not too long and I was hoping for more or shall I say you left us wanting more I sure do appreciate how much time and effort you have put into raising your spider communal
Thank you so much, Gin! I was so glad that I was able to document this from slings to adults. That was my goal from the beginning, so it was a lot of fun putting this video together. I will definitely continue to post interesting updates when I have them. :)
Wow. What a cool video. Now i know that i will start my own balfouri communal. Big thanks for the info.
Thanks so much! They really are amazing. :)
My favorite video you have done. Totally want to do a communal now.👏👍
Thank you so much, Liz! You totally should! I'm about to start two more with other species... :)
Just watched this again and it is amazing - I love the tone and quality of your voice when you are explaining details. You mentioned communals in the wild, I have searched and searched for videos about that but have failed to find anything.
Awwwww....thank you so much, Angie! I really appreciate that. Yeah, I haven't been able to find anything either. I hope that some day someone gets footage of that!
Listening to your videos (even on species I'm not personally into) is just so wonderfully soothing and I love getting to learn more about your husbandry. You take a solid approach to documenting everything and it gives your opinions and findings a real weight.
Hello, Lily! First off, my apologies for the later reply! Thank you so very much! That really means a lot. :)
Great Video Tom. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Deen! :)
Great video Tom
Hi, Steve! As always, thank you! :)
You inspired me to try a communal of these. I have a group of 10 and they fascinate me. Thanks for the vids!
Hi, Jodi! Yay! I LOVE mine. What size did you start with ? :)
So amazing, that was great to watch. Thank you :) I'm looking forward to down the line when I have enough experience (and money) to do this myself. It is so amazing how communal they are, I would love to discover what in their evolution led to that. Thanks again and take care!
Definitely give it a try when you feel ready. You won't be disappointed! :) Thanks!
I really like your video's but this one is just amazing, i'm sitting here watching in awe
Thank you so much, Steven!
Great video Tom,really interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks so much, Jason!
Tom Moran I know this sounds a bit ironic, but up until about 7-8 years ago I had 5 T’s,a rose hair,True redleg, curly hair ,an Indian ornamental and a Mexican red leg(excuse me for not using the Latin names),apart from the ornamental who was a male, they all lasted 20 years or more.
I’m now going through a divorce and when my wife/ex wife-whatever leaves, the spare room is going to be for T’s,and it’s thanks to you,Mark,The Dark den,The spider man and others who have helped me make that decision. You guys are brilliant, dedicated and really care.
I don’t think I’ll be able to do a RUclips channel, but thanks so much for taking the time and getting me interested in the hobby again.
Very impressive, thanks for this video
Thank you so much, Christopher! So sorry for the later reply!
that part at 29:30 or so doing the little leg pushes over the cricket reminds me of my cats, lol. man this was a great video.
Hahaha That does look catlike!
Wow what a great video. So informative and entertaining. Thanks.
Thank you so much, Nadia!
Still my dream! Thank you for the info.
Very informative, huge thanks to you
Thank you very much!
I never regret watching your videos. This is a must see video for those people who are wanting to know how to keep a balfouri communal set up.
Thank you so much! I was really hoping that this one would help some people out.
@@TomsBigSpiders it really do. Before I watched your video, I am having doubts to keep a communal set up. But because of the tips and your observations, I am now planning to have one. By the way, I gained confidence of keeping of an OBT because of your video too. You're one of the best when it comes to sharing and giving tips for us here in the hobby. More power to you Tom.
Amazing stuff man. Can't wait to start mine in a year or so. Such beautiful Ts.
Thanks so much! :)
Great Video as always
Thanks so much, bud!

Yes, it was incredibly fascinating to watch them grow and interact over the years!
