  • Online trolls have targeted Labour's Jess Phillips in the days since she giggled at the suggestion men’s issues should be debated in Parliament. The MP Birmingham Yardley passed on the worst abuse to West Midlands Police, including multiple rape threats. Ms Phillips, who has also spoken out about scrapping the so-called tampon-tax, admitted she was worried her two young sons, Harry, 10, and Danny, seven, would see the threats.

    It's shameful that this woman's degree of man-hating is tolerated. I don't condone the threats but suggesting that men's issues (such as the high suicide rate) are laughable is disgusting.

    • @Alrukitaf
      @Alrukitaf 5 лет назад +66

      She certainly is a dumb nitwit for laughing. Unfortunately for her right after her laughter the guy mentions the markedly difference in life expectancy and suicide rates. Then she tries to justify her laughter saying that she’s laughing at the idea that men don’t have the opportunity to ask questions. Quite stupid, because that was not the purpose of the proposal. It was to discuss the strategies to address the men’s health issues.

    • @Alrukitaf
      @Alrukitaf 5 лет назад +50

      To top off her stupidity, in an effort to have the last word, she says “when I have parity, you can have your debate”. So, when women have equal pay and have balanced numbers in government, then we can talk about the issues with men’s health. No, sorry, then we can have a debate about whether or not men’s health issues need to be talked about!!!???

      Hawkeye 1000 - Ohh man, that’s where you’re wrong. There are a few “negative” impacts for women if actual equality becomes a thing like them being punished for filing false police reports of rape and abuse against men. Them being subject to the same amount of scrutiny and not being able to blatantly lie in family courts when kids and visitation are involved. Divorce settlements are another. They have their “reasons” to be worried. They’ll lose the upper hand in instances that they don’t want anyone to know they have.

      @intempify Trying to raise awareness about the issues faced by men and boys is precisely what Philip Davies was trying to do. You are saying "Just bring it discussion, propose them, write them in the party’s manifesto, if so interested in men’s issues." Well, what do you think Davies is doing here? And each time men's issues are brought up by people who are in power (and they are few and far in between), they are either laughed at, or treated with contempt. The only way most people are going to care about men's issues is telling that solving men's issues is going to be a benefit for women. And usually, you also have to atone for your original sin of toxic masculinity or your patriarcal oppression.
      Have you seen what happened when the movie The Red Pill was aired? How (mostly) feminists did all they could to shut down debates, do prevent the movie to be watched in cinema, to smear the director Cassie Jaye and the MRM in general in the media? This is what you get when you try to bring awareness to men's issues. Every single time.

    • @ilirotahori2640
      @ilirotahori2640 5 лет назад +6

      @intempify "i’m talking about the case at hand, not using it as a symbol to whatever agenda you might have."
      I don't see where you are getting at with that. I said that in this particular case, Davies was trying to bring attention to men's issues and was mocked for it by Phillips on the ground that until there is gender parity among MPs, there shouldn't be a debate about men's issues. I then said that this kind of behaviour from Phillips is business as usual. Phillips scoffing at Davies is indeed a symbol of the general apathy or disdain for men's issues. And the justication for that is usually in the line of what Phillips said: "no debate until we have parity".
      "Are you still on the anti-feminist/sjw binge post-gamergate? That’s getting old, son."
      Ad hominem. Try again.
      "Any examples of the male issues discussion being shut down?"
      You serious? This video is an example in itself... But alright, there you go:
      www.news.com.au/finance/business/media/dendy-cancels-screenings-of-the-red-pill/news-story/396bd2c28948e2b31a75412eda75e1d5
      Few examples of cinemas cancelling their screening of The Red Pill movie due to feminist lobbies. Note that the article is only about Australia, and doesn't include the several petitions targeting the movie that didn't work. More screenings around the world were protested and/or cancelled.
      ruclips.net/video/rOnuZsXRwTA/видео.html
      Janice Fiamengo speech being disturbed by activists. They start making noise at 1m46, nothing even remotely offensive what uttered at this point, but who cares.

      www.telegraph.co.uk/men/thinking-man/11670138/Why-are-our-universities-blocking-mens-societies.html
      Notice how the guy who wanted to start the support group for suicidal men clearly distanced from "MRA and Misogynists" because he thinks they spend too much time bashing feminists.
      So here you have few examples. They are easy to find, feel free to dig up some more
      "It’s hilarious to bring up male issues discussion on the grounds of having parity on raising issues, not the issues themselves. Obviously it stands to reason to have parity in order to have parity. Get it?"
      Actually no I don't get it. English is not my first language, and your phrasing seems weird to me. Could you rephrase it please? Especially the "having parity on raising issues" part, do you mean equal representation of men and women, or paying equal attention on men issues and women issues. I don't get the meaning of the 2nd sentence either.

    • @nope7684
      @nope7684 5 лет назад +19

      @intempify How do you justify parity as representation ? Men primarily dominate the construction industry, wheres my parity ? Woman primarily dominate teaching institutions, wheres my parity ? Germans dominate the beer and piano industry, wheres my parity ? The Chinese dominate the stem fields, wheres my parity ? The Irish disproportionally dominated in politics, wheres my parity ? Jewish people disproportionately dominate the clothing industry, wheres my parity ? Indian people disproportionately dominate the medical sciences, wheres my parity ? You seem to have this distorted notion that removing barriers equalizes the proportions of people in career paths and politics. You cannot give me a single example of that being the case . Can you prove your claim ? It's amazing that the likes of Thomas Sowell can remain so obscure yet most important in modern discourse. These people are elected, who's keeping woman out of office ?

      Regardless of that, imagine the widespread condemnation a male MP would (rightly) face if he was seen to burst out laughing at the suggestion that MPs should be allowed to debate gender issues such as domestic violence, suicide and premature mortality rates.
      Suicide is a male issue. Men are more likely to die of cancer before the age of 65 than women. Men are more likely to be murdered. There are currently no strategies in place to assist male victims of domestic abuse. If these issues aren’t worthy of at least being discussed then something is very wrong.
      Jess Phillips, in my view wrongly, saw this as an opportunity to bemoan the lack of female representation in the Houses of Parliament. That’s a separate issue, but maybe if more women stood to become MPs there wouldn’t be such an imbalance. Parliament have run campaigns such as #AskHerToStand event, had female-only open days at the Houses of Parliament to encourage women to stand. When women do become MPs, as we’ve seen with Theresa May, there is no ‘glass ceiling’ preventing them from progress. Women simply are choosing not to get into politics.

    • @synthesizerpatel7405
      @synthesizerpatel7405 5 лет назад +10

      intempify as I said, that lack of parity in representation *is* being addressed - events and campaigns have been put in place designed to encourage women into politics. But that’s an entirely separate issue! As Davies said, there is currently no forum devoted to raising male issues. So because there are more male MPs than female that means male issues don’t need to be discussed? Wtf kind of moon logic is that...

    • @synthesizerpatel7405

      So such things as
      Suicide being the biggest cause of death in men under 45
      Deaths in the workplace being ten time higher in men than women
      The need for prostate screening at a younger age
      Lack of funding for early intervention to prevent gang culture
      Lack of justice for fathers following marital breakdown
      Are unimportant and can simply be dropped in anywhere during commons time when there will probably be twenty MPs listening whereas women's issues should have time set aside?. Where is the equality in that? There is more time set aside for discussing trans issues

      A: Not as many women are standing for seats.
      or
      B: Not as many people are voting for them.

It is mostly working class men who suffer, they don't have the 'privileges' of the rich establishment figures that Jess Philips is so clearly lumping them in with. I love men, they are the backbone of our society, our dads husbands and sons and I hate the idea they are suffering so much because they are literally being blamed and shamed for every ill in the world and it's not right.

    A big thanks to Jess Phillips for keeping Labour out of number 10, and hopefully for years to come!

    She made it about herself and was somewhat condescending, good on Philip Davies for remaining clear headed and making constructive arguments, this will always prevail

    Your description is wrong. No one is "targeting" her, they're holding an MP accountable for their words. Something we have a right to do.

    Why is she so threatened by this? That's the only reason she is acting this way.

    Shame on Jess to dismiss this issue... Just imagine the scenario where a Man would had laughed off Womens right.
    There are thousands of cases of oppressed men who are bullied by women under false dowry,rape, domestic violence cases here in India.... Also cases where men are too shamed/afraid of talking in a public form.......Shame on you Jess

    Women like Jess, give other women a bad name and really push women down further by not recognising equality. Narrow minded and insufferable horrible selfish person. All successful women in history still understand both issues from both sides, not just their own.

    "Online trolls" have objected to her laughing at the concern over men's issues? So none of them at all have been honestly concerned about these problems, suicide, poor education, violence and sexual assault against men?
    Seems it's only the privileged who they are interested in talking about.
    As for rape threats, nowadays we're wondering how many have been sent by herself or her followers to taint the argument.
