  • TPG video team raced each other to JFK to find the fastest and most convenient way of getting there. We took the subway, a car, the LIRR, and a Blade helicopter. As you can imagine, things got heated. Both literally and figuratively... it was really hot on the subway. Watch to find out who the winner is and what you should be taking to get to JFK for your next trip!

      Definitely Blade. Although it can take just as long as by car, more of your time is spent at the Blade Lounge enjoying a drink and relaxing versus being stuck in traffic.

      E train to Air Train , as long as not peak rush hour (8a to 9a or 6p to 7p) or with luggage I can't comfortably lift up/down stairs. (Note that the LIRR stations and some subway stations do have elevators.)

    A) You guys basically rigged this in favor of car service by leaving late morning after rush hour. Have fun trying that at 4pm on a Thursday and tell me if sitting in gridlock for nearly two hours is "low" stress. B) LIRR girl added 20 minutes to the travel time after missing her train because she got lost trying to find Penn Station of all places....wow... C) Subway girl's experience was pretty typical and she navigated it well for someone who clearly had never even heard of the AirTrain and was possibly riding the subway for the first time ever. Anyway - the best way to JFK is.... 1) if you're leaving during most weekday times and middle of the day weekend when traffic is heaviest, subway or LIRR is the no brainer. 2) car only makes sense when it's early morning or late at night when train service is far less frequent and traffic is light. Most other times, you'll get there faster on the train and obviously for a lot less money. 3) take the helicopter if you're attention starved

      You nailed it. They need to rerun this at maybe a different time and with more competent New Yorkers. These new young transplants just don't get how the city works.

    • @idl9ave419
      @idl9ave419 5 лет назад +4

      You are absolutely right. If you have carry-on luggage and are at most one connection away from the E or A, the subway/air train combo are the way to go. If you have tons of luggage, or aren't near a subway, you're stuck taking a car. But if you are leaving on an afternoon flight like maybe 80% of the people using JFK, you are going to get stuck in horrendous traffic on the Van Wyck. Leave lots of time. One other thing this video didn't mention - the major subway and train stations definitely have escalators and/or ramps, and some are getting elevators - helps with the luggage issue.

      @@abmindprof this. even in DC, tuesday morning and thurday evening traffic is epically huge (bc uber rich folks) - where monday morning and friday afternoon in summer doesn't even count as usual traffic. have to imagine NYC is similar ... for similar reasons.
      this was nonsense either way. and HELL YES to "with more competent New Yorkers."

    Uber Black. You get door to door service in luxurious style! It's a bit more pricy, but you can sit back, relax, eat, read, get some work done, return some phone calls and an hour later you are at JFK. Everyone else had to take two modes of transport just to get to the airport. I like this episode bc there was FINALLY something done in America! It's cool to watch the OG Points Guys galivant all around Europe and other continents, but would it kill TPG to do a flight from NY to Hawaii in all cabin classes?! (DO NOT TAKE United!!! Always remember how they mistreated that doctor and gave him a bloody nose then promoted the CEO to Chairman.)

  • @derrickc82

    Time is heavily dependent on time of day, day of week, and where in the city you're starting in. I can get to JFK from FiDi in under 30 via Uber for early morning flights. During the evening commute, it's a far different story. Blade to JFK only operates from the West Side heliport. If you're across town or outside of Manhattan, it's def not worth it. Same with LIRR.
    Stress level is also a big consideration, especially if you have luggage. Stairs, transfers, crowds in NYC are no fun.

    Subway should be the fastest if she took the E train to Jamaica (@ 20 minutes) and picked up the Airtrain, at least now it would be. It looks like she may have taken the local R train which is slow. Also the subway is the cheapest.

    MTA! Save time and money taking underground trains with public transportation. Use Google Maps and Transit apps to alert you of delays and construction. MTA needs WiFi on all trains and buses. If cities put more money into public transportation then they would have fewer delays. Your vlog sticks reminded me of mine. I have the Ulanzi v3, Rode video micro, GoPro pro 3.5mm mic adapter, and Husiway selfie stick. Total cost under $100. Swap for a gimbal for image stabilizing and worrying about breaking expensive equipment.
