Replacing a Ceiling Fan

I show you how easy it is to replace a fan yourself. I don't know what kind of fan this is, and I'm surprised so many of you care to opine on what it might be.
Great breakdown. You saved my @$$. Previous owner precariously had our HEAVY Hunter 5 blade ceiling fan with a light fixture, hanging by a single screw and the cup in the ceiling was pulling out. I could not figure out how to disassemble this thing for the life of me. I just followed you step by step and now we can use our fan without fear of it slingshotting across the room.
I love the WAY u expressed/explained the need for holding the fan while un wiring the electrical connections;
"I have to one hand this- while I other hand that"....
I would have stated it in that exact fashion... it works! ( it just caught me funny) great video....real life
Thank you so much for sharing this video! I literally have that same exact (dinosaur) fan in my dining room and were in the process of replacing it. Im using this video as a step by step on how to, thank you again! :)
Super appreciate the vid Mike, helped big time
This helped so much! No longer afraid to try it out
that looks like a Heritage Lancaster ceiling fan from Kmart
What color pattern is the for hooking up the wires
Old Fan: Hampton Bay Landmark III Plus (SMC)
New Fan: Walmart Chapter Hugger (Litex)
Nope the first one is a Just a Hampton bay Landmark. The 3 pluses are just a tiny bit smaller.

What happened to the old ceiling fan? what did you do to it
Excellent vid. Easy, peasy
Curious, I should know this but want to ask. Turning off the Switch in the room turns off power to the HOT wire. But the neutral White wire can possibly still have power back feeding into them can't they? I know this from experience, the switch was off, I was still not touching wires, but got clumsy and touched a White and was shocked. There was 3 -12ga Whites twisted together coming from the ceiling, not just 1. So I suspect that should've been my warning, Secure the Breaker. I finished it, just being careful. The other two White neutral wires I suspect were coming from something that still had power on. Or was it coming all the way from the power panel? Since then I've been turning off breakers, but before that I had successfully done many with just turning off the switch.
I think I can just change the light fixture not (probably not) the whole fan but, will give it a go. Thank you.
super simple great video!
What happened to the old fan?
What did you do with the old fan?
I followed the Hunter fan instructions ( replacing a fan/light with another fan/light) but ended up with a spare red wire coming out of the ceiling.
What’s the red one for.
Hey there! Red wires on 120v circuits are traveler wires for 3-way switches. You must have a second switch somewhere that can control the light or the fan. Of course, I suppose it's possible that whoever installed it ran some wire that contained the red one and didn't hook it up at either end. Of course, if it's hooked up at the other end, you've got a dangerous problem and so you really need to figure out where that red wire goes. Hopefully to a 3 way switch. If not, hopefully it's not connected to anything on the other end, but if that's the case, it shouldn't be there anyway. Thanks for watching!
What did you do to the old fan
Hey Mike,
Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome Carolyn. And thank you for watching.
^_^^_^^_^^_^:-S^_^^3^
If you want the old fan to spin again, you need to replace the Capacitor
Yeah, I wish it were that easy. You're right, usually that's the solution. My nephew jumped and grabbed it, and the bearings were ruined. Not worth replacing those.
best video so far thank everything is well explain great tips. thank you Mike
that landmark was in good shape
True
Great video for people like me... replacing ceiling fan for dummies! Thanks Mike.
hampton bay landmark III plus are sold in home depot chapter huggers are sold in walmart
I came here looking for instructions, on how to remove these old fans 1980's in a 1968 house with the big motors. I'm SOooo glad I found you Mike, I thought I was going to have to pay someone to remove it. Now I think I can get it off the ceiling. Those little bolts are whats holding it to the studs/ceiling .Hope I can get it down Sunday. Cause I have a Beautiful fan, I paid almost $600 bucks, by MinkaAire (Cirque),/George Kovacs. It has circular blades large and small, red/blue/yellow. google the name, You will be amazed how pretty it is. It won a Museum/Contest, for Artist, something or other, I forget. Cant wait to get it up in the living room, its a" show stopper". Thanks again Mike Thompson, if I have anymore questions, I will come back and ask you, thanks for all the help, love your videos..........(smile)
You can hang the motor on the hanger bracket
wow, my ceiling are wobbling so hard that I'm afraid to turn them on
Old Ceiling Fan is Hampton Bay Landmark III/Plus and the new Fan is a Chapter Ceiling Fan.
the fan you replaced and probably threw way is better that the cheap one you put in
Super thanks 😃
Good Video,, I would just like little more detail on safety. How to make sure wires are dead etc. We are not electricians so concern is always there.
A voltmeter is best, but you can just turn the lights/fan on, then when you kill the power with the breaker, the lights will be off. Then you'll know.
Great video thanks.
It's a shame the old fan doesn't work anymore it is a nice looking fan.
working above head like that I would suggest wearing clear safety glasses.
dude walmart fans break
but it’s hampton bay landmark plus
Who knew there are so many fan fanboys. I've never read more old fan = x, new fan = y posts in my life. And they're all the same!!! People really care that the old fan is a Hampton and the new fan is a Walmart??? And they care so much that they duplicate the previous ten posts saying the exact same thing???
Either way, good video. Thanks for the help!
STFU

Could you use a bigger drill, next time try a rotor hammer 🤣
Excellent suggestion! I might also use my potato gun to kill mosquitoes.
Very clear instructions, you're a natural teacher.
Thanks Mark.
Thanks! I can remove this, without fear now!
my grandma have that same exact fan in her living room.
which one, the old fan or new one
Big help I'm a new home owner and I'm fixing everything.
The old fan is Hampton Bay Landmark III/Plus and new fan is Hampton Bay Clarkston. They're both not the best fan, I would have gotten Hunter Original instead.
ok and some people can't afford them
that's not a Clarkston... that's a Walmart hugger.
,hunter originals price fuck so badly they take 10990099 hours to install. he won't buy that fuckin suckin fan
1. Not a clarkston. Its a litex feom walmart sold under chapter
2. Not everyone can afford a $500+ original and the newer ones just arent good.
stop looking at the negative stuff, mike could have been injured because hunter originals are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo heavy some even weigh 75+ pounds
Old fan: Hampton bay Landmark iii Plus New fan: Walmart Chapter Hugger
That is not a big enough drill you need a huge drill bigger than that
The old fan is a
52 inch Hampton bay landmark plus III
The new fan is a
42 inch Walmart chapter hugger
Old fan Hampton Bay landmark ||| Plus
New fan Walmart chapter hugger (Litex)
If you set it to 1.25x playback speed it's like Butters from South Park teaching you how to replace a ceiling fan
Hahaha and if you play it a 1.75 he sounds like Ben Shapiro!
While taking out the old ceiling fan. To reduce the time you have to hold it up, can’t you just cut the wires on the side of the old fan? Don’t cut the wire nuts off. Just the wires coming from the old fan
The fan dosent want to spin so replacement!
boris paul 69 solution: FIX THE MOTOR.
@@MattsFans what if they don’t know how 🙄

Dude tbh you downgraded the hugger that you have installed is a very cheap quality fan from my experience
I know how to install and replace a ceiling fan
Ff
Great video! Replacing our today. Dude is kinda hot as too... Just sayin' 😉
You honestly downgraded. I’m no electrician, but I have feeling that all it needed was a new capacitor.
Who cares what kind of fan it is! Geeeez! You guys act like it’s going in your home🙄
Pretty big talk from someone with no videos!
thank you this video was very helpful.
