Intersectionality is a great way to understand a persons experience. It doesn't have to divide people - people are already divided in the way it points out. It merely gives us a tool to examine that. Good video.

Intersectionality. What a great word. People echo this in social justice circles, to unite against oppressions etc. Unfortunately, This a one dimentional label. a label system is a crude tool that doesn't capture the complexity of a person. Just because someone has certain features or attributes doesn't mean you can make assumptions about them. Everyone's story is different, and we should stop pigeonholing people into categories. People are more than their labels, and it's time we stop politicizing them in this way.

Love this video! Intersectionality can be used as a "theory" and "methodology" it is an essential tool to understanding almost everything ;)

You seem like a really sweet person, I was honestly taken aback by how kind your demeanor is. I think it's a really great thing to understand our advantages and disadvantages in society, intersectionality seems like something we should all be mindful of, I think you did a great job of explaining that.
I really wish people wouldn't turn intersectionality into identity politics, it seems like it's dividing us even further, and at times people use it to bully others.

I still dont fully understand. I do on a baseline but if I were to go in to depth, no way. Yet I have to speak about this topic in a few weeks to my team on how it has affected my life from being muiliracial. Ill keep doing more research.

The theory of intersectionality, at it's core, may have some validity. However, the number of ways we discriminate against one another really isn’t the issue. The issue is the sinfulness of the human heart. All sin separates us from God, and all sin must be atoned for. This is why Jesus died on the cross, to pay the penalty for our sin and to redeem a people unto Himself.
All forms of discrimination and their intersectionality are the result of the fall of man into sin. No doubt discrimination will continue as long as sinful people reside upon the earth. Christians should acknowledge the problem of discrimination and work to counter it, but lasting change can only happen through the life-transforming power of Christ. Movements that seek to divide people along racial, gender, or class lines; that create designer victim groups; or that seek retribution through ever more autocratic policies are not truly benefiting society. Christians should be peacemakers working to unite people in the truth rather than divide people or stoke feelings of resentment.

this comment is a great example of how religion can often be used as a diversion. what "christians should be" doing is irrelevant. religions of all kinds have existed for millennia and yet people across the globe continue to be bullied, assaulted, exiled, and murdered every day because of discrimination and its perpetuation by the systems that have been put in place. intersectionality is not dividing anyone - we are ALREADY divided. intersectionality is simply bringing light to those divisions and showing how they can cause unique and complex experiences of discrimination. though we may never arrive at true justice and true peace in our society, we should still be aiming for it, and continuing the conversation on intersectionality is critical in the process.
