Trump can also mean preventing, or getting ahead of a possible problem. Trump lameness is by doing routine maintenance on the hoof to keep lameness away.

For those who fell asleep that day in class...the word "trump" is older than the guy that used to reside in the Oval Office. I'm not sure where it comes from but I know it's used in card games (bridge), & other places, & basically means to bset somebody at something, or to do better, or to rise above. "My fancy truck trumped his plain one." "His hand of cards trumped mine, & I lost the game." It just happened to work out well as a gentle pun here...
