    While not explicitly said in the video, I'll say here I don't endorse anything blackq did. But his actions are an important part of the story. It is the perfect example of "Don't become a monster when trying to defeat one"

      Yeah, what he did was completely unethical. Like Wirt said, don't become a monster trying to take down a monster. We all know Riolu cheated and has been totally unapologetic about it, but trying to doxx and phish someone is crossing a line.
      I think Nadeo's statement that they confirmed who it was and that "banned players are free to make a new account," along with all of the playstyle similarities and the timing of the account make it pretty obvious that it's Riolu, but we aren't entitled to know who it is. I do wish Nadeo would've permanently banned him, though. If he refuses to even admit he was cheating, much less apologize, that's not someone who should be allowed to exist in the community.

    • @HellisCatus
      @HellisCatus 10 месяцев назад +13

      You cannot put the blame on the entire community for the actions of a single individual, that's ridiculuos. In reality, while some members of the community were indeed curious as to who 92BOB actually is, it was only one individual (blackq) who crossed the line in trying to determine the answer to that question. For that matter, the TMUF community was shocked to learn of what blackq did and, as a response, he was rightfully outcasted from the community and all his records were also removed by the TM Exchange moderators, while also receiving a perma-ban. Every single community will eventually have some bad apples, though it is important to make the distinction between the majority good apples of the community and the few bad apples giving it a bad name

      Kinda ignoring the part where he cheated for 10ish years and refused to admit to it. Just about every other cheater came clean, moved on with their lives, and are in a better place. It was his choice to cheat. It was his choice to lie about cheating.
      Phishing attempts, etc. are of course still wrong and unacceptable. If blackq faces repercussions, good, that's absolutely valid. But don't say riolu is just "some guy who enjoyed the game". And if he's competing at the top of the leaderboard, he's either still cheating, or at best works a job and spends all of his free time on trackmania. @@JohnWarosa999Wirt is a speed runner. He has records for beating the game blindfolded and many other variations of TMNF. Not to mention trackmania is purely a time trial game in nature, it would be fair to consider it a “speedrunning game.” It’s a game that involves players attempting to shave time off of records that have been previously set by themselves and/or others, the literal definition of speedrunning.
      With his morals under the microscope, I feel it is fitting to add my opinion on the topics at hand. The video format is meant to be purely a record of events, and not to share an opinion on the topics at hand. He can choose whether or whether not he can use his right to share his opinion since he is a prominent figure in the scene, and is an active player that was effected by the events.
      All that being said, he has confirmed that he wasn’t supporting the actions of the said player, noting that, “One should not become a monster trying to stop a monster.”
      I really hope this community would lay off hyperbolic criticism and opinions that leave little room for discussion, as it is an improper and unfair way of getting your ideas out there. I’m sure Wirt doesn’t want to start a war in the trackmania community over his video, and simply tries to get information out to a wide audience. If he truly wanted to support the actions of the problematic user, he would avoid getting the information out to the public. A large majority of his audience don’t even play trackmania, and even those who do aren’t in the loop with a lot of the information that goes out (that would be me 😊).
      I understand trying to make sure a prominent figure in the community isn’t trying to support actions of a violent nature, but making negative comments strictly off of perceived character comes off as projection, and straight up framing.

It is very common for French people on the Internet to include the number associated with their home department (a French administrative subdivision) in their username, and the number for Hauts-de-Seine is 92. If this is truly Riolu’s alt account, that would mean that he registered it on a whim in 2008 while having knowledge of French internet username conventions, crafted the account information to corroborate the username by setting it to the right department, and dug it up a decade later to make a silent point. It's really telling with the armchair psychoanalyzing of Riolu in this video. This video assumes it's not worth playing the game at a high level unless you have the community's support. If 92BOB is really Riolu, then it actually shows that cheating was not a factor in what made him a great player. The speed at which he took back the top spot shows that he was as good as he claimed to be. It should be a great story to see a man prove himself, but the Trackmania community will only see it as a good story if they bend the knee first as Neko did.

      That’s a really fucking weird take. These guys cheated for years and pushed legitimate records from the top, reaping the rewards and praise. You’re damn right people should be suspicious of any future records. And if someone wants to be part of a community, there’s nothing unreasonable in expecting contrition after cheating and lying like that.

This is a perfectly fine outcome for a cheater that all parties should agree to.

    • @sullenpuffin
      @sullenpuffin 11 месяцев назад +5

      For all we know, the cheating is just more sophisticated now. Perhaps there’s a way to play in slow motion and still take advantage of improved reaction times, but it’s possible to spoof the controller inputs so that they behave as if being played at normal speed. If (big if) Bob is Riolu, the fact that he’s back at the top in suspicious circumstances is sketchy. I think people deserve a second chance, but also deserve to be treated with a little wariness.
      But for all I know, Bob is just a random talented player who’d prefer to remain anon.
      The point I was making is that it’s not unreasonable for the community to expect someone who has cheated to show some respect and pay their dues before being welcomed back. Accusing the community of being toxic for not blindly welcoming cheaters back just creates a place where cheaters will thrive.

And part of the way through the video I was convinced you were going to reveal that you got in contact with them and that they were or were not Riolu. The fact that the video did not have any new revelations, and just speculates without showing us any concrete evidence is ridiculous (Maybe some visual examples of his "similar tendecies and habbits" would help).
    I feel like this video is petty, driven by negative feelings that should be processed and left in the past years ago, and that you are perpetuating a witch hunt for whoever 92BOB is. And that's without going into the ick I think a lot of people in these comments are feeling with how you portrayed Blackq's actions as clever and then how you portrayed "Riolu" in the end as some sad sack for getting to the top of the leaderboards seemingly legitimately.
    You cannot post a video millions of people will see that spends it's entire time vilifying your theory of who 92BOB is and think that saying "That is just my opinion" and editing your pinned comment will somehow stop people from harrassing 92BOB. what is even the point of this video? that some high rank player "seems" to be riolu? if they want to remain anonymous, they have every right to do so, regardless of if they are a new or already known player. they are not breaking nadeo's rules--whether you think those rules are "good" or not does not justify attempting to phish/dox anyone (or making a video that could potentially start a witch-hunt).

      If this was his way of getting back into the game to prove himself after cheating it’s somewhat respectable. Even though he didn’t apologise, if he does eventually say yup Bob is me and I’m sorry for cheating I think some people would forgive him.

      @@yanste3349 I don't think most people would be on his side lol. Riolu handled the cheating situation about as badly as he possibly could have. He cheated multiple WRs, lied about it when accused, trashed his accusers, gaslit his fans, and then when the evidence was too much to continue denying with bald-faced lies he disappeared with no apology or contrition of any kind. The cheating alone is bad enough, but the way Riolu handled it was extra despicable. Look at Neko for an example of how to recover from cheating. He admitted he cheated, apologized, and committed to returning as a legit player. That's respectable. What Riolu did is not. This video being in awful taste doesn't somehow redeem Riolu.

I've seen fun videos about mysterious players that talk about the mystery around them whilst still supporting them, and I thought this would be the same, but this is just a smear campaign against a guy who may not even be Riolu. At best this is a petty bit of revenge against someone who seems to want to move on, but it is just as easily an attack against some random person.
