I was told to relocate the limiting washer behind the variator to keep the belt inline with the clutch to prevent pre mature belt wear, what do you think?
also what weight did you buy? I was going for the 7.5g I think. Just relocating the washer on my scooter and using stock weights and polishing where they slide, My tach goes past 40, but its a little dead in the mid range. 32 to 40+ it's good though.
The belts are pretty inexpensive, and mine has lasted for over 11 years so far. Replacing it is easier than putting that limiting washer back on. So, I say the improved velocity and acceleration are worth the wear and tear on the belt, and the motor.
I just removed the spacer nothing else. Plan on doing the variator next. i also have a two brothers racing pipe not sure if that could have helped with the speed gain. It was on there before i removed the spacer.
2015 Zuma 50 X took washer out completely no problems. Just change variator there's no comparing gained 5 mph with Polini speed var EJK fuel controller NCY clutch NOLOGY Hotwire Two Brothers Exhaust.three 5 gram three 4.5 gram weights stock airbox flat ground no wind 46 47 mph down hill 52
just get the polini variator and use 4.5g weights with this and you will do 48mph gps downhill and 41mph on flat gps with zuma and c3.. i weight 185. if you weigh more use slightly lighter weights and if you weigh a good bit less go for a bit heavier weights. the kit comes with 6.9g weights which is too heavy unless you weigh 115 pounds.
From the videos, I saw the shams or where the belt rides and the limiter washer is in the back and if you look in the manual until shit imports the warranty if your take out the limiter washer
I love my Yamaha c3, it seems like its pretty underrated, too bad there is not much aftermarket support. I need a way better shock and from disc brakes, I ride in a mountain area lots of curves.

I recently purchased a 2021 genuine roughhouse because they just continued the Yamaha 50 in North America. derestricted the roughhouse at the dealership and I get 45 miles per hour stock.
Can I remove the rev limiter washer and not have to change out the roller weights? There was no washer on my 2018 zuma. Half throttle is all I got but it goes 40mph.

That old will be carb not FI so it will need a carburetor clean or replacement. Should be good to go after that. Don't get a china carb, try to get an original.
@@0verfiend so you cleaned the carb, saw light through all the Jets and still nothing? If that's the case, spray some starter fluid in the carb with the air filter out and see if it pops, if not it may be a spark issue. Good luck.

I work on them all the time and like to help others fix theirs. You're not getting fuel to the plug the first logical place to look would be the carb.
Man this brings back memories, I rode a 2stroke 50cc scooter in Hawaii as my only transportation for 2years. I took off that variator and belt a bunch of times. I liked those slider weights. You can use lighter slider weights for faster acceleration or heavier for higher top speed. It was called and Adly 50cc. Now I'm thinking about getting a little 4stroke the yamaha c3, zuma, and ruckus are what I'm looking for. I'd like to be able to keep up with 40mph roads. How is your C3?
my 2015 4 stroke zuma runs neck and neck with my cousins 05 2 stroke zuma, down hills i pull away. plus mine isnt noisy and doesnt need oil to mix. oh and will last 3 times as long. 2 stroke is old noisy tech.
Then your cousins scooter needs a tune up! I put 27k + miles on my ORIGINAL stock oem 2004 Zuma cylinder. The only reason I replaced it was because the flange where the exhaust bolts up gave out. The bore, rings, the whole top end still ran strong and as fast as ever. No way any stock 4T Zuma could even think of keeping up with the 2-strokes and it’s not even close.
So i just bought one of these and it will bury the speedo, if i had to guess id say it runs about 47. But the other day i went downhill and noticed it was somehow restricted. Is that because of that spacer or what?
complete guess, teh rpm rev limiter is at max on flat and limits the already max output downhill, it is direct drive (using the pully system) at that point.

That’s correct. By removing it, you will gain more top speed. You can play with it. Try it with the washer and without the washer, so you can see the difference.
I tried doing this and I didn't even get anything off. Nothing came off except the cover. No bolt or nuts or no belt and nothing else came off except for the cover and now I can't even get my moped to start. Can someone please help me?
Keep the shim, swapping your rollers helps with take off, acceleration, and top speed. Your bike is EFI so you need to remove the governor from the CDI. The 2t Zuma's have no rev limiters.

It is very interesting. I live in Japan.I have yamaha Vino 4T. These mopeds in Japan are not restricted.it reaches about 60kph. But Japanese mopeds' legal speed is only 30kph! it is too slow!
In Ohio, scooters are classified as motorcycles and you must obey all motorcycle laws. So you'll be fine as long as you have it registered, insured, and have a motorcycle license. The 20 mph restriction is for motorized bicycles/mopeds (it has to have pedals).
That is corect it is not a spacer it is a washer which spreads the load on the aluminum fan from the center of that slide when you take that spacer/washer out it concentrates the force of that slide on the back side of that aluminum fan pulley and will dig into it destroying the aluminum fan . This whole concept is done to move the 2 halves of the veriator closer togather to push the belt further out on the diameter of the veriator . Such a miniscule amount that that washer would take out will not take you up to that high of a speed gain Maybe one mile an hour if that . The lighter roller weights or slides will make a difference in how fast you pick up speed though Depending on the weight of the rider the heavier the weight of the rider the lighter weights you want to use it keeps the engines RPM band higher for longer Keeping the engine in the optimal power band before pushing the belt to the outer diameter of the veriator .
Redsorgum that may have been what your speedometer said but likely the actual gps speed is a good bit lower. My zuma 125 says its going 55 mph but gps says 49 mph top speed.
@@davidbabin4813 Yamaha speedos are well known to be off by 3 or 4 mph. I removed the washer two years ago and get 44 mph now verified by GPS. Speedo is buried at 40.

I could make a piece i suppose .also a small rectangular piece appears to be missing just in the steering column in front of the fuel lid thing

Hi Mr Wrench ..i marked my variator with a sharpie and discovered a good 7 or 8 milimeters still left of the mark on the outer edge still not being used .any ideas ?ive got Dr Pulleys in and i even tried grinding out the alloy of the ramps to about 1.5 mill to the outer edge .nothing changed much.should i change the variator to a Polini one as this is the stock uk restricted model?btw the variator has 18,000 miles on it
I did this on my yamaha zuma 50 fx. My top speed went from 62 km/h to 68 km/h which is 10% increase in top speed. Very satisfied!

Need a stiffer set of springs for the clutch assembly so you can accelerate a bit faster

I have a 03 zuma 2-stroke. Completely stock i do 0-30 in 3.2 seconds. 4-stroke zumas are subpar.

That washer, isn't limiting anything, with that washer, you adjust how low your belt seats, and how far in it seats in torque driver

the variator is restricted you need to change it omg your rolls go on a real wall.
Did the washer mod and lost speed to 35 and it now slips if it tries to go faster. Any ideas?

It pretty obvious when it’s removed. Call it what you want. Spacer, shim…. It gives you a better top speed with it removed.
