WOOOW! That adult on top of the thistle looking resolute is just an absolute corker image. Composition and dimension with the long stalk is exceptional
Beautiful. We get lots of these in our garden and so most of my pics of them are in trees or on feeders. So nice to see them in their natural environment. Very relaxing video to watch and the music is lovely.
Well worth your little morning trip Espen. Quite tough when youve got such a big patch of thistles but makes it all the sweeter when you get the shot youre after👍📸
Hi Espen the goldfinch is one of my favourite birds mainly because I get loads of them in my garden so loved this one I have also just recently finished a watercolour painting of one. Until next time take care and stay safe my friend.
Fantastic Espen. I use my pop up hide in the garden and love too spend hours there with coffee and the camera. Never used the hide in nature because most off the places I go there are other people out there and I like to see what ‘s coming at me 😁.....
What cool looking birds. The goldfinches we have here in Canada are all yellow, I can't think of a bird we have here that has that sort of red/yellow/black/brown colouring. Very interesting to see. Your footage of Scotland also reminds me a lot of the west coast of Canada, lots of green and plenty of rain and mist. I'd love to visit Scotland some day.
I know what you mean, the place I live really reminds me of Norway, which I think have a lot of similarities to Canada. Canada is high on my list of places to visit! We should do an exchange 😅
I really need to invest in a pop up hide, nice shots and video Espen. I think your right, those rainbows do seem to follow you around 🙂 there seems to be a trend with all these photographer's and coffee, possibly the fault of Morten 🙂.
Excellent work. Your editing was another level, actually many levels. From home to micro home, then the montage of forest drone shots down to flower macro, it really showed the detail of the local habitat. Thanks for bringing us along.
I shot a couple of them (American Goldfinch) a few weeks ago and wished my 70-200mm could have got me a little closer. Beautiful photos and equally beautiful scenery as always🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾.
@@EspenHelland I've read good reviews about the sigma 150-600mm contemporary. I plan to rent one and see how it will work with my 7D II. I love the 70-200 and wouldn't mind having it alongside the 150-600.
Great video! Are you able to freely enter private property in the UK with right to roam laws? We don't have those here in the states. Do you have any advice for finding places like this to set up a blind, and getting permission from the owner if necessary?
In Scotland it’s free to roam wherever you want, but in England it’s mostly private land. Best advice is to learn about birds and which habitats they use. Pick a target species you want to photograph and read up on it. As for getting permission, I reckon some people would be quite open to it. You can offer them some photos in exchange for using their land.
Hi Espen! Love the video! Can I just ask, what are the dimensions of the Tragopan Pop-Up Hide? I've been searching all over the place for a hide that I could use from my mobility scooter. I may end up resorting to just getting some Camo Netting if I can't find anything big enough! Cheers!
Hi Espen, does the hide have a low angle holes? perhaps if you photographing hare or foxes so you can be in eye level with them? great video as always! thnx
Thanks! Not this hide no. I’d recommend the Tragopan V6, you can use it as a pop-up and get additional room to lie down in it and shoot from the bottom window. Large enough to sleep in as well.
Heeeyyyy!!! We do same thing!!! I do also ride my mtb with the photo gear on! :) BUT I DO WEAR A HELMET!!! You must too. Will someone develop a really functional and safe invention to carry the dslr with the lens on easily reachable? If you keep it in the rucksack then lose many nice chances. But pedaling with the camera hanged on the neck is a very difficult and uncomfortable (and even dangerous) thing. Regards from Spain.
Hi Espen. Great videos. I'm heading to Argaty for the Red Kites in a couple of weeks after watching your upload, looks fantastic. I recently decided to try out a gimbal for my birds-in-flight photography. Do you own one and do you consider it to be worthwhile? I notice a lot of your photos seem to be handheld or using a ballhead. Cheers.
Thanks Jon-Paul 🙂 say hi to Tom at Argaty! I think if you have a heavy lens a gimbal would be worth it. My gear is so light that I always handhold. Unless I’m in a hide and I just need something to hold my setup by the window.
Too long 😅 All mine are tragopan, I tend to recommend the V6 as you an use it as pop-up, but also get additional room to lie down in it and sleep in it you wanted too.
As always Espen another great video you have brought us. Will the pop up hide take the v6 extended room ? Also is the pop up hide fully waterproof? Thank you.
Thanks, sorry for the delayed reply. No, the new grouse (pop up hide) has an awning you can attach and it allows you to lie down with no floor. The ceiling can be propped up so the water bounces off it, but if there’s a build up of water I believe it might seep through eventually.
Great video! One question on the hide. The one you have here seems different in colour to the one on their website. Are there different colour options?
Thanks Renato. This is an older version of the hide. The ones on the website have the current camo, but they are due to be changed to a darker pattern soon. If you check out the @SuperTragopan channel I’ll be showing off some of the up coming hides in the next video and they’ll be on presale at a discount shortly.
Hi, thanks for the video. Are you shooting off of a tripod? If so, what kind of a chair do you sit in that will accommodate the legs of the tripod? Thank you.
If you're staying in Aviemore the the Cairngorms mountain is quite good and easily accessible. Most forests around the area have crested tits, lots in the forests by Loch Morlich.
Espen Helland thank you Espen . I’ve had a great time in Scotland. I found some crested tits in place called Glenmore which was great. Not great pics but great to see. I’m back home tonight . Back down to Somerset!😴 I will definitely be coming back such great place . Good luck with your pictures. Many thanks Ben.

Thanks, I wasn’t sure about the ragwort. I’m pretty certain about the thistles though, creeping and sword was what I had in the field. Maybe more than one name? Plants isn’t really my thing but I like to learn them when I can.
Very peaceful! That tent looks good...I need it..
total mobile, bike , small tent great photos !
I love the colours of the field in the backgrounds, like the best palette ever - great photography

I know, at first I'm super happy to find such a big patch, but makes it so much harder 😅
Beautiful photos. Looking forward to my trip there in Speyside Cairngorms in November.

Hey which hide are you using? Sorry, just started the video - not sure if you mention it later on. Great video as usual.
This is an old Tragopan V+ hide. I tend to recommend Tragopan V6 as a pop up hide though as you can get additional room to also lie down in it.

I captured a flock of these Goldfinches in Himachal Pradesh, India.
Nice 👌
Why does all photoblinds have such a big packsize and heavy weight? wish that they hade smaller packsize and were much lighter
This is fairly light, the smallest one I have is the Tragopan Hokki, very compact and small, but only for lying down in.
Do you have a link to the Tragopan Pop-up Hide?
different camo pattern now, but same type: bit.ly/3hHNNg9

The grouse will be good if you’re not going to be lying down. But could always get a Hokki for that 🙂 newer versions will be a bit darker.
