The gameplay fits well with the GBA since it's a simpler console. Scaling that gameplay up to full size consoles where the limitations aren't needed just doesn't fit.
It's the European release, but I am not aware of any differences beyond additional languages. TCRF also doesn't list any, but it might just be incomplete. If you are talking about those four sparkles spinning around Sora right before the level up screen, I just tested by leveling up in with normal heartless. They appear the moment you reach the necessary EXP, not necessarily at the end of the battle. They also appear again right after you choose a level up bonus. I don't have the US version with me right now to test it there.
@@at-low Yeah I see what they're talking about, those Sparkles after you select your Bonus are actually a neat little flare! In the US version, or version I had for the GBA he just spins the Keyblade around when selecting a bonus but we don't get that cool sparkle flare.
