Since my house is on the Gulf in Pinellas County, I had to evacuate. Tues night I followed my sister’s car on I 75, we were going to stay at friend’s house in Naples. After 3 hrs of driving, we stopped at a great truck stop called Love’s. The employees were wonderful, standing out in pouring rain directing massive amt of cars waiting for gas. We then learned that Hurricane had shifted and was coming towards us, so we decided to turn around and go back home. The gas station was in Fort Meyers. Please say a prayer that all these wonderful people working at Love’s Travel Stop are safe and well. We also have not heard from our friend’s in Naples, who lost power that night.

My house was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy. I feel what these people are going through. Prayers for everyone 🙏
How are you doing ever since ?
Sorry to hear. I hope you were able to rebuild and recover to a great extent
So very sad but there is hope: we are living in the end times and JESUS is coming soon for the rapture! Please get rapture ready: thank our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST for paying for your sins on the cross and HIS resurrection on the 3rd day!!! It must come from the bottom of your heart and don't forget that JESUS is GOD, see John 1! Please read biblical end times prophecy, listen to Dr. Ron Rhodes on end times chronology, check out 'Rapture Ready News' daily.

I don’t know why they’re calling 911 and the Coast Guard. These people really think first responders are supposed to risk life and limb for their own foolish decision making.
Many people didnt have the time or ability to get out. Easy to be critical from your keyboard. I’m in Saint Petersburg and we were facing a direct hit until it shifted south. None of my neighbors evacuated and neither did I.
@@VitruviunMan You're so right.

@@VitruviunMan I agree. They probably did not have time. The storm was supposed to give Tampa a direct hit the day before and it shifted so quickly. I live in zone B in Tampa. Many people were praying for mercy in this storm, that it would shift direction, dissipate, or that their family be safe regardless the destruction of possessions. Houses made of mostly wood don’t fare well in this sort of weather.

It is very important to distinguish that this is Ft Myers Beach, not Ft Myers. I'm from Ft Myers and these are 2 different cities. Ft Myers Beach is directly on the Gulf of Mexico. This is where the storm surge was the worst and the devastation is catastrophic. Ft Myers was also hit very hard but I expect that most of the fatalities (in the hundreds according to the Lee County Sheriff) will be from the Ft Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, Captiva, and Bonita Beach areas. Florida will be fixing this mess for many years to come.
Like Andrew.
We get hurricanes every year dude it’s nothing new ? It’s apart of Florida.
Florida is still fixing and repairing things from previous hurricanes. It's like time they repair stuff from previous hurricanes, another one comes through and destroy stuff again. They can't ever get a break. When you hear of a storm circling around in the ocean, you know exactly where it will hit first.

With hurricanes everyone has a 48 hour warning. More than enough time to take your possessions and anything valuable and drive to a safe area. You'll save your car as well. Why I see so many cars underwater and destroyed is beyond me.
You comment on things you know nothing of
Some people have no brains.
It changed course, and got much stronger, so people didn't have enough warning, then there wasn't a way out for many, if you read other comments.
Your house can't be taken with you! That is most peoples valuable possession. 😪
@@purplepixie274 It hit a bit further south of the original forecast, but it was made clear days before that it was an intense storm and the path could change in any direction. Don't live by the water.
God bless everyone hope you're all well and safe 🙏
I hope all the countries we’ve helped now help our people in Florida.
People from Kosovo, Eritrea, Ukraine, Germany, France, the UK, and Italy are writing checks. ( NOT !!!)
@Paul Getty Of course. I've seen people all over the world commenting on videos about these catastrophic event too, I'm sure donations from all over the world and first responders will head to Florida.

Yeah China, Russia, Kim Jong-un sent their coast guard.
We'll see, I heard Ukraine needs some more money. I'm in Orlando. Close to flooding. Bless
People living in Hurricane prone areas really need to start getting smart, why on Earth would they stay in their home when they know it can receive a lot of damage if not destroyed? These people are reckless, makes no sense you stay home and then you call 911 the Coast Guard everybody you can think of to come help you.
You guys need to smarten up, leave the area so you don't have to take Emergency Services time when there may be someone else who needs it more!
AGREE!
Agree so stupid
It makes it difficult to feel sorry for the people that are warned time and time again to evacuate but instead choose to stay. You try to call 911 for help when it's way too late and then put others people's lives at risk. I will never understand that type of thinking. Anything else can be replaced except someone's life.
Karma occuring for the selfish
Losing your house feels the same whether you find out from your evacuation location or on site. It would still be a devestating loss of property.
We don't know the details for these specific people but the storm was projected to make landfall further north so people didn't have as much time in the Fort Myers area to evacuate.
You realize this storm was supposed to go right into the mouth of the Tampa Bay up until the last day it started changing the trajectory to the southern Florida so a lot of these people didn't even think they were going to get hit initially
@@Wontreplyeverdontbother It was hours before making landfall they found out it was heading right towards them, it was a drastic change of course. It's not easy to evacuate a million people in a matter of hours, look at the traffic jams caused in Tampa when they had days before the storm to leave. Getting stuck in traffic trying to leave these barrier islands or other places you have to cross a bridge could have been deadly for everyone involved.
My prayers to all
Let’s be nice guys. Not everyone could afford leaving:(

It's evident that this person and her family made a huge miscalculation by not evacuating when they were warned to do so. They are lucky to have survived.
How heartless can you be? The hurricane shifted overnight. Tampa was supposed to evacuate. Not Ft. Myers and Naples or Charlotte County. That was the information given. How about not be morons?
They might not have had the resources or ability to move the whole family. As mentioned, she also had her granparents, and what looked to be pets amongst other family perhaps aswell. I can't be the only one that knows, not EVERYONE is equipped to just leave home on relatively short notice, some people have no help, some people have limited money, some people have a lack of both... People should understand this.
God bless this family, at this time. And every one, in the state of Florida.
First she is not calm, she is in shock. Second it seems like the houses are made of wood, why aren't they CBS so close to the beach? And finally the tables in the living room were there to "get to higher ground" she says, and that just goes to show the extent of their preparation. I hope they have supplies for a couple of days, God be with them now.
I own a home just South of there in Bonita Springs, FL.. My daughter lives there full time and it's a second home for me. These homes near the coast and located near bodies of water like the Caloosahatchee river are a recipe for disaster with storm surge! My place OK in Bonita as I'm inland and elevated somewhat. Lastly, these folks aren't poor. Those homes have a cost well above what most of you could afford. My town home alone 10 miles from the coast 1/2 million dollars.
It's Florida. These people sound like they just found out that Florida has hurricanes.
I am just glad no death and my son made it through the storm. Cape Coral will be restored...

wow..I'm so sorry that happen to you...at least you have someplace left intact enough to wait for help......it must have been one hell of a wild night for you...
All these new homes built after this storm should be all concrete and round at the top. Only thing wood should be furniture. They built these in New Orleans after Katrina hit. They go nowhere and the only thing you lose is furniture if not put up or personal belongings, but the structure will go nowhere. Flood damage none to the floor of the house. Makes perfect cents!
Majority of these folks have the resources, example money. They will be fine. Now if this was a trailer park that would be a different story.
Well, thank God people who stayed are still alive and have another day to humble themselves. @@zelda1997 exactly
Why don't people who live in hurricane zones build there houses properly out of bricks and cement? I live in the UK and we had a 110mph storm last November and we only lost a few slates off the roof. Houses shouldn't be built with plywood and 2 x 4s.
I had a tree crush a sizeable portion of my house in Matthew. It's something you have no idea how it feels until it happens to you. I as a male have never felt so much emotion, from sad to anger. Being in the house and hearing a movie explosion with wood particles flying in the air. Running to the back and watching the ceilings fill with water bubbling then collapsing. I have a full brick home thank God or it probably would of came all the way through. That was just to start. Everyone thinks these insurance companies just come out and give you the money to fix the house. Nope. They try and rip you off and get you to front the repairs. After hiring a public adjuster the home was fixed and finished a year after the damage. I lived in this home with a tarp on the roof and had one bedroom, usable restroom for a YEAR. Went through contractors firing and hiring. It is truly a disaster. I could not imagine a full loss Or trying to be made whole afterwards. Unless you are rich can you possibly float a mortgage and a rental until the home is repaired? Check your policies most reimburse after the claim is settled. They also have a very lengthy step process before you can take them to court. This is to draw it out and get average homeowners into foreclosure before they pay out. These insurance companies try to hold out and hope you walk away. It's disgusting.
I read every single word you wrote and agree 💯 with Insurance. My house is paid off and my insurance is very minimal that basically only covers roof damage. All repairs and Improvements have all been out of pocket but at least, I have no liens from a Mortgage or from those FHIA programs 👍
True
We pay maximum insurance cover for buildings and contents/accidental damage so the dirty scamming insurance companies cannot wriggle out of paying. It costs a few hundred pound more per year but we always got a claim paid out in full.

"The Americans don't like natural disasters as there simply isn't anyone they can sue"
I don’t understand why in Florida they build with wood. Houses in FLA should be made of cement and brick 🧱 something that can resist Hurricanes
Because everything is about money and cost.
Not everybody can't afford.
Many used to be made of cement with facades to meet the winds - you can see the older houses are built that way to withstand hurricanes but many are also of wood structure and then you have the mobile homes that are destroyed pretty easily in storms - its just life in the USA - lots of storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, snow storms, ice storms, flooding- it's always something
The Atlantic ocean 🌊 😆 is literally in your living room ! nothing will save it ..
Why would anyone live in a place that has hurricanes after hurricanes and expect others to help them out when they’re house is destroyed. They should relocate move count your losses move on. And don’t expect the government or others to help you out.
