I like the idea of vampires being their own kind of evil, separate from demons and devils. Maybe the vampiric curse enhances any negative traits the person had in life but otherwise the new fledge vampire will have the same alignment it did in life, although it may lean more towards evil.

In Elder Scrolls the origin of Vampirism is specifically explained and pretty fucked up. It originated from the Daedric Prince Molag Bal Daedric Prince of Domination. He came upon a priestess of Arkay who is the Aedric god of Life and Death. So he pinned her to the ground by impaling his sword through her chest then raped her. She soon resurrected as the very first Vampire. This is why in Elder Scrolls the most powerful Vampires are women because only a woman can be chosen during a ritual, which is heavily hinted that they are themselves raped by Molag Bal, to turn them into Daughters of Coldharbor, Coldharbor being Molag Bals realm of Oblivian which is Elder Scroll’s version of the hells. Him being known for ravaging women is why one of his aliases is the King of Rape since rape is a form of Domination. This is also why all vampires in the Elder Scrolls gain innate proficiency in Illusion magic.

it didnt even come from him since he admits to not knowing how to cure it, and it literally takes another deadric prince to cure it and it being the prince of dreams and nightmares. Also there are multiple tribes across cyrodil who are said to not be connected to the vampire lords, so its still pretty mysterious

@@alexcavazos3341 Molag Bal 100% created vampirism in that way. It's confirmed by Bethesda. Lamae (The first vampire) is the reason for the different strains of vampirism. Molag Bal is also a deadric prince, so it's most likely that he simply doesn't want to cure anyone. After all, most deadra search for champions for a long time and Molag Bal basically has as many as are vampires

During AD&D2e with took the DMG: create your own character class rules to modify the Bard class to create spellcasting werewolves & vampires. 3rd.E skill points and multi-classing rules just gave more deep style of play revolving around the monsters.
I came up with a plot where Richten retired coming house from Barovia he picked up a stray druid wolf cub with a note that the puppy will look after him. She had a magic feeding bag around her neck. The wolf cub was a high land loup garou werewolve that could only be harm by gold. And she was loupin stock born of a wolf from White Wlof werewolf game. The starting running joke, she becomes the city's lead rat catcher.

Just imagine that the inverse happened to a vampire where they gain back their human soul. It would be through some sort of experiment with litch creation ritual. They would be confused because they have the memories of the vampire and would feel guilty and horrified by the things the monster did using their body.
The person would also have to catch up on the times and what has happened as it would be as though they woke up from a coma. In terms of their power it would be that of a vampire still but their weaknesses would be reduced to being non fatal and they would have certain traits of a litch. If you're wondering where their soul is held it is actually drawn back to their body.

Vecnas incisors replace the bearer's upper canines with black vampire-like fangs. In addition to giving +1% magic resistance the bearer may transform into a vampire version of themselves for an 8-hour stretch twice per month, they cannot create spawn vampires by using their blood drain in this form but drinking somebody of good or neutral alignment to death will wrack a good bearer with guilt, causing them to suffer a -5 penalty to all actions, attack rolls and saving throws for the following week. If such a host makes three kills in this manner, then their alignment will change and probably become an NPC its either this punishment or something dependent on the DM's wish.

i kinda disagree about the strictly evil vampire, yes it makes sense but on the other hand vampires are intelligent and wise, imo vampires can act for good, it will be a very rare thing obviously but it can happen, not every vampire has to be evil, becoming a vampire might be means to an end after all

This is a totally valid interpretation of Vampirism and a fun way to play the game. In games I DM though, I simply prefer the evil, other-worldly body snatching entity interpretation. It is more true to the original folklore and mythology and it is downright scarier.

  • @piluex2

Not exactly DnD related, but in Jojo's bizarre adventure, Vampires are actually the spawn of ancient and powerful vampire-like beings called "the pillar men", they were basically a byproduct of their attempts to surpass their own weakness to the sun, they made a mask that could tap into their hidden potential, it didn't quite work but when used on a human, it made them into vampires. Jojo vampires are basically bootleg pillarmen, having super strenght and regeneration, control over their own physiology, thirst for blood, and are really weak to the sun. Jojo Vampires can also create spawn on their own, when they suck your blood they can inject you with their essense to transform you into undead zombies, they can also create spawn by giving a human their own blood without feeding on them first.

I run a campaign where vampire spawn and vampire kills are tweaked. I took inspiration from supernatural. Vampires are weakened when staked with a wood steak to the heart dipped in dead man's blood (paralyze vampires for 1 hour, removes the regeneration, and lowers ac by 3.) Dipping your sword or arrows in in dead mans blood removes regeneration for 3 turns and lowers ac by 3. When vampire spawn fall to 0 hp they fall unconscious and appear dead for 1 hour. To kill them you must either decapitate them or burn them with holy oil. Vampires at 0 hp turn into most and return home. They must be staked, decapitated, and burned with holy oil. Holy oil and holy water negate regeneration for 1 turn.

I'm not sure if this is a thing in D&D, but if I recall correctly in the Original Dracula, Nosferatu, and in a lot of vampire fiction that involves them rising from the grave, they can take the dirt they were buried in originally, and add it to a new grave or fill a coffin with it, essentially making that grave/coffin a valid resting place, which is why Dracula could operate in London while his grave was in Transylvania.

    • @feartheghus

If you’ve got grace dirt from the original grave you can use that too, and unlike a coffin it’s kind of hard to burn or destroy grave dirt beyond repair. You could move it and hide it by sweeping it up, but it’s still technically usable as long as the vampire can get it back somehow.

Boy he called it with the Dhamphires or how ever the fuck you spell it. I like what they did with them in the Raven loft book though. Really like the hex blood and the reborn or whatever it's called. Great lore in that book.

Fyi I think the origin he got in I Strahd is WAY better than this newer Shadowfell stuff...

What really confused me is that first you said “if you wish to become immortal, but don't want to be a lich, you could turn into a vampire” and after that you said “vampire is not the same person, who was turned, that person died and some other thing took their body and memories ”. Is seems controversial somehow. Like you cant really gain immortality or undeath for that matter by turning into vampire, all that you can do is simply donating your body and life to some fiendish spirit. It seems like ppl didn't really think it over.

Saying this was text-to-speech because I'm kind of on the run but I heard that part were vampires and succubi have a lot in common? More so than you realize in real life mythology, from what I understand they were created by the demoness Lilith both of them. now I could be mixing that up with some other Lord depending on the depiction you take it from as I believe Lilith is primarily a Jewish mythology figure with only some ties to any other mythologies. so essentially take that with a grain of salt but yeah Lilith from what I understand created both vampires and succubi

That dude just simply repeats what DND book wrote about vampire stuff, he said a victim infected by the vampirism and alignment started changing to evil just because that person was not himself but someone else??? WTF? victim changed alignment simply just because he could not deal with the unbearable starving for blood so he had to kill for blood to get rid of the indescribable agony. he might feel guilty for killing in the beginning, but as time time goes on, he lost the compassion for his FOOD, started to lose the lingering humanity in his soul, that eventually would turn him into evil alignment, but he is still himself not ANOTHER thing replaced him inside of the body. its common scene. like will you feel guilty or compassion for eating bunch of chicken or steak when you are super starving? Does the craving scene for more juicy yummy roast chicken mean something is replacing yourself in your mortal vessel? Nope, so do vampires.

His whole context for it was that it was his personal application of traditional vampire lore into his dnd setting. It wasn’t strictly fact, it was just his interpretation of how to use them with a maintained historical accuracy. You can use them however you want

I feel like vampires are out of place in a tolkien inspired fantasy genre like DnD.
If you want vampires go play Vampires, the masquerade.

So wait, you don't consider the vampire to be one of the exceptions to the "undead=evil" rule because... your personal headcanon? I mean, that's fine, just don't say it like it's canon.

  • @andygreen3575
    @andygreen3575 4 года назад

I fundamentally disagree with you that what's in a vampire/undead is not the same person but something else. The quintessential point of unearth is either eternal punishment/torment for evil actions in life (so you are already twisted) or it's a conscious choice/pact the very powerful/evil make to avoid death. The soul doesn't pass on and get replaced it's the same soul trapped in a state of in life tormented by the life it can no longer enjoy and needs it's can't satisfy, hunger, sleep, love.. etc.
Also you say you're not quite sure about vampires indulging in sex, except at the very start of the video you mention the lore of vampire being related to succubi, whose very nature is to drain life essence/corrupt employing charm seduction and sex This would seem to account for vampyric obsessions with lust/sex as well as their desire to crave connections with the life they have lost as well as trying to sit desire they no longer can being undead, lust is also one of the seven deadly sins and the driver of many evils, it is in a way a kind if madness that overrides sensible thoughts and moral/ethical behaviour almost like a possession, something, succubi, demons and vampires employ to varying degrees, with their charm, mind control.. etc.
Lust in and of itself a corruption of love and the downfall of many undead, Soth lust for Isolde, Strad's lust for his brothers wife, a Liches lyst for power, surely it is fitting then that such lusts are carried over into undeath.

Why are there "rests" in recorded video aside from padding? It make more sense on radio. Im sorry. I like the info but It ain't worth it enough sticking around for. Ya people gotta make a living but I feel slapped in the face with it in my observation of it.

It kinda is. You're original post said it ain't worth worth sticking around for, indicating a time-sensitive nature to your problem with the Short Rest format.
Also, "Short Rest" is a new 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons game mechanic. It is very thematic for the boys to refer to their intermission as such, and allow them to give us information that doesn't fit into the video, like giveaways, shout-out to Patrons, and I actually listen to the whole thing, while writing up any campaign ideas I get from the subject matter.
