Food here looks good. We don't have braised pork ribs, kolo mee here in Yishun where I live. Should make a point to travel to Tampines to try the food.
There are other stalls that sell braised pork rib noodles but not many do it well. The meat mostly very tough because the temperature never control properly. Btw the chicken foot looks delicious 😋
Well the rice cake comes with toppings of salted preserved pickles.. it’s usually packed together with a paper wrapper. Some customers prefer to have it maybe at a later time.. so they asked for it to be packed separately. But at 50cents.. I think they’re probably trying to desuade any request 😵💫
@@Piggypuggy Ah ok, now I understand. I wouldn't mind having everything in one package. Except gado-gado, I want to control the amount of peanut sauce I put on it myself.

@@Piggypuggy That's OK - MRT from Bugis to Tampines West will get me there in time for a mid-morning snack after breakfast at Albert or Tekka Centre. I can't for the life of me imagine what anybody would find to do for three weeks over there in New Zealand's West Island 🤭

I must admit I never tried KFC in Singapore to compare it with what we get in NZ but I hardly ever eat it here - if the chicken portions were any smaller than they are now you would be getting an egg! I did have a rendang burger from Burger King at Changi one time that was OK, but I don't get the urge to eat Western takeaway food when I'm there. I duppose one of the advantages of living here in NZ is that we have a house with a good-sized garden so I can cook my own steaks whenever I want on either a gas or charcoal BBQ (the charcoal one also serves to grill my home made bak kwa and satays.) I'll see your $1 kit kats and raise you a $4 plate of Rojak from Lau Hong Ser stall at Dunman Rd.
Yes Tampines is supposed to be the first bicycle friendly town where cycling on pavements is legal. I think at one point long ago, cycling is not allowed on pavements
The stalls i like to visit are Sarawak Kolo stall, Chai Chee porridge, Song han carrot cake, Malay nasi lemak stall facing out, the pork rib noodle stall. Coffee stores is quan fang or the one at the end facing out called Swee Bee It has a very friendly and talkative uncle. In fact their coffee sold out pretty early. I also frequent malay stalls though i am not sure which one is the best. But i have boycotted one of them after the quantity of the mee soto was so little when i had it last month. Al-Hijrah with green background.
Yeah.. it's always a pair.. like double shot gun barrel.. it's actually just a strip of bread dough.. but I don't understand why it's traditional to press it in between with a chopstick.. stretch and lenghten it before dropping it into the fryer.. not sure if there's a scientific purpose to that.. and if it helps frying faster.. or that Chinese just likes things in pairs.. there's another shorter and sweeter version called the butterfly.. also in pairs
Wah, this is my territory. Great hawker centre, lots of good food. My regular stalls are the keropok stall, that yu diao, Chai Chee porridge. The better Malay stall is the green signage, run by 2 big size brother/sister. But you did eat the most popular ones, kolo mee, the pork ribs (I prefer chicken), and Song Han. And yes, they add curry powder to the carrot cake. I'm not a fan though.
Wah.. I didn't know your Tampines is your hood.. yeah.. but strange right? That hint of curry.. now most noodle stalls there offer ribs. Sometimes I feel bad just eating what's noted to be famous.. many others are worth a try and be encouraged too
Hahaha.. pls pace yourself my friend.. most delicious hawker food originated from street peddlers that provide hard labourers the fuel that they need for the day.. remember your fibres and fruit juices ( although I must admit I only drink coke and coffee ☕️ 🤣)
@Piggypuggy 😅 well it's going to be interesting, we both have to stick to a very low carb diet for health reasons, so I might be freaking people out when I ask for "no noodles".. 😱😅😅
Keep watching Piggy's channel if you want to make the most of your time. His journeys to the suburbs touch the soul of Singapore's heartland. Oh, and you will never get to them all. If you factor in a few kopitiams, the food centres are an uncountable cornucopia of delights.
Wow, 22 nights! Skip newton food centre and go down to old airport road, golden mile and Chinatown hawker centre. Seems like the tamp round market is worth a trip too also.
Wow! I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but are you sure you have the correct list? The latest NEA list has 108 NEA and Town Council managed hawker centres, plus another 11 newer ones that are privately managed. By my admittedly sketchy mental arithmetic, that's almost 5 per day for your visit!! I've been visiting Singapore for around 20 years and only managed around 40 different ones so far. I'm there in late July/early August for just over 2 weeks and I only anticipate visiting 4 or 5 new Hawker Centres at most; the trouble is, you find places with stalls that serve such great food that you just have to go back to them when you visit again. If you've never visited before, you have to consider the size of some of the hawker centres - did you realise that Chinatown Complex has over 220 stalls, Amoy St over 130, Hong Lim over 100, People's Park nearly 90, Maxwell over 100, Market St nearly 60 and Lau Pa Sat around 80? These are all contained in an area of about 4Km square - you can walk between the farthest apart of them in about 25 minutes!
