  • The Tampines Round Market & Food Centre has been a vibrant hub for Tampines residents since its opening in 1983. Let’s delve into its fascinating history:
    Origins and Purpose:
The market was envisioned by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) as one of the last few wet markets to be built in response to changing lifestyles and the growing popularity of supermarkets in the early 1980s.
However, wet markets remained popular with residents, leading to the reintroduction of such markets by HDB in the late 2000s.
The Tampines Round Market was completed in 1983 and became a vital part of the community.
    Distinctive Features:
The market’s unique circular shape makes it one of the most recognizable landmarks in Tampines.
It is surrounded by shophouses that house various businesses, including clinics, bicycle shops, bakeries, and hair salons.
Nearby banks and shops contribute to the bustling activity in the area.
    Hawkers and Camaraderie:
The market’s hawkers are renowned for the quality of their food, attracting customers from all over the island.
Interestingly, 72 stallholders relocated to Tampines as a group in 1983 after the market and hawker center at Block 176 in Toa Payoh Lorong 2 was demolished to make way for an MRT line.
Some of these hawkers have been operating their stalls for more than three decades, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie.
    Social and Commercial Hub:
The Tampines Round Market & Food Centre, along with its adjacent shophouses, serves as both a social gathering place and a commercial hub.
Before the massive shopping malls in Tampines Central were developed, this area was bustling with activity.
In summary, the Tampines Round Market & Food Centre stands as a testament to community resilience, adaptability, and the enduring appeal of traditional wet markets in Singapore

If make like Beach Road have 2nd level like nice, but on top Food Stalls? Spiral staircase? Tampines is popular place always filled, definitely will become more if like that.
